5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, April 23, 2008
This review is from: Comanche Moon (Wilderness #51) (Mass Market Paperback)
On a rare excursion to Bent's Fort, to collect a gift for his wife, Nate comes across a greenhorn couple looking to settle in the heart of Comanche territory. Unable to leave them to fend for themselves Nate is left helpless when an old enemy steals all his supplies and weapons. Nate's left utterly defenceless against a band of vicious warriors who want nothing more than to see him dead.

David Thompson comes up with another great entry into the Wilderness series. Not only is the book a entertaining read it also makes you think about the mentality of man. For instance the long held beliefs that the educated white man is superior to all others, here presented in the red man is a heathen belief of a white man experiencing the West for the first time. This is written so well that the reader shares the frustrations of Nate due to these views.

The book isn't filled with thought provoking questions, these are just part of this, hard to put down, story that moves along at terrific pace. The action is first rate and nicely balanced by moments of humour.

And for long time readers of the series it's great to read a book that centres on Nate King, rather than the entire family.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best plot lines, April 18, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Comanche Moon (Wilderness #51) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am almost finished reading this book for the third time already. If it was a movie, it would be way better than the other one of the same name based on Larry McMurtry's novel. This one would have a better plot line and what I love about the Wilderness series is that the Good Guys win, bad guys get what is coming to them. You will definitely love to hate the main bad guy is this book. Imagine what would happen if it was on film!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Over The Moon about This Book !!, October 3, 2007

WILDERNESS # 51 Commanche Moon by David Thompson(David Robbins)-Genre Western

The latest novel in this excellent series see Nate on his way to Bent's Fort to collect a surprise present for his wife little knowing that the pitcher and washbasin in question will him lead into one of the most perilous times of his life. This is basically a Nate `solo' adventure and is as usual written and told fantastically well, with loads of action, great dialogue, an excellent and tense plot and a brilliant finale to the tale. What I found terrific about this book was how Nate would help people he doesn't know because it's the right thing to do even if it means putting his life at risk, the journey afoot across the arid prairie was really well done and the final fight with an old enemy was great, highly recommended.
