4.0 out of 5 stars fun Americana tale, August 2, 2009
This review is from: Comanche Moon Rising (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1846 Texas, the Blue Norther killed her father and left Shiloh Braden worried to death about her ranch failing and when it does what will happen to her and her younger brother who she is raising. Shiloh also finds the storm left a young female Indian with a fever stranded in her barn. Without a second thought, she takes the child inside to try to heal her; which she does.

Comanche war chief Shadowhawk comes for his younger sister Moon Song stranded by the storm. He knows he owes her for protecting his sibling. When a neighboring rancher proves perfidious and dangerous, Shadowhawk, paying off his debt of honor, abducts Shiloh and her brother over her protestations to keep them safe. As they fall in love, Shadowhawk knows he cannot keep Shiloh at his side as his wife so returns her to her ranch when he deems it safe.

This is a fun Americana tale due to the strong lead characters who know they have no future together although the well written storyline and the cast will remind sub-genre fans of Cassie Edward's "Savage" romances. Filled with depth, readers will enjoy COMANCHE MOON RISING as a taboo love between the Indian war chief and the white rancher makes for an exciting "C. Edwardian" historical tale.

this was a beautiful love story. the story was innocent and read smoothly. it wasnt overly predictable and left some of the adult themes up to the readers imagination. great writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars O'Banyon Fan NOT Disappointed At All, October 11, 2009
This review is from: Comanche Moon Rising (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Like the last reader/reviewer, I have collected and read Constance O'Banyon's books since the early 1980s. There is no one who can tell a story like O'Banyon! As a history teacher, I know a lot about the Comanche, who were the fiercest warriors of the American Plains. I thought Ms. O'Banyon did a wonderful job making the Comanche, who historically have a reputation for ruthlessness, sympathetic characters.

COMANCHE MOON RISING has it all--romance that tugs at your heart, wit and humor, and descriptive passages that allow you to imagine you are there with the characters. This book not only has strong main characters, but real-to-life secondary characters, like the heroine's brother and the hero's grandfather.

Like the previous reader/reviewer, I was not ready for the story to end. If you have read Ms. O'Banyon's books, you know that her earlier books were a lot longer, but weren't all the romance books in the 80s and 90s! There seems to be a trend to make the books shorter and shorter, and I have heard that it is high printing costs that have forced the publishers to require less word count from their authors. We shouldn't blame the authors!

I really liked Shadowhawk, the hero, because of his strength and honor, and the difficult decisions he had to make.

In her over 50 books published, I do have my particular favorites, but any O'Banyon book is well worth the reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars White heroine learns the language for a change!, March 21, 2011
This review is from: Comanche Moon Rising (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading Tykota's Woman, I was excited to find this book. Like the previous story, no gory details of violence like other NA stories I've read. I found this to be a very sweet story. I love alpha males who are very sweet inside.

***POSSIBLE SPOILER!!***

Love the story but took off 1 star because I can't believe that heroine was scared & angry at the hero, then literally in a snap, she realizes she loves him. Huh?? When'd that happen?? I didn't feel her growing attraction at all, unlike on the hero's side. Yes, the hero's point-of-view is wonderfully written, I love it!

What I love about this book is:

1. Hero falls for the heroine first (change from the woman always pining first)
2. In the end, the heroine learns the tribal language and it becomes her main language instead of the hero learning English. Awesome!

2.0 out of 5 stars O'Banyon Fan Very Disappointed, October 10, 2009
By
This review is from: Comanche Moon Rising (Leisure Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been reading Constance O'Banyon books for nearly a decade---she is pretty much the only romance novelist I will read, and have collected nearly all of her works dating back to the early 1980s. Therefore I have come to expect richly detailed landscapes, intriguing story lines and narratives filled with adventure, wonderful character development, and of course, steamy, sensual love scenes.

I was very disappointed in reading Comanche Moon Rising, the story of a young woman Shiloh, who must manage her family's ranch after her father's mysterious murder during a storm, while keeping the local land-hungry tyrant Surge Tyree, at bay. Shiloh nurses back to health a young Comanche girl who was found in her barn, despite warnings from her ranch hands that having the Comanche in her house will bring the feared war chief, Shadowhawk to her front door. When he learns that Shiloh aided his sister, Shadowhawk pledges a debt to protect her until he considers the debt repaid. This includes spiriting her and her young brother away to his village when suspicious things (like their barn burning) start happening on the ranch. Of course, Shadowhawk is physically attracted to Shiloh with her flaming red hair and blue eyes "like the sky." However with her fiery temper and driving need to save her ranch, Shiloh wants nothing to do with her captor, but can she deny their mutual attraction?

At 260 pages, this book is also significantly shorter than other Constance O'Banyon books, which are usually twice as long. I felt the story was rushed, and the characters had no depth to them and were more like stereotypical characters in a dime store novel. Shiloh did not embody strong female characteristics inherent in O'Banyon pubs. There was no building sexual tension between Shiloh and Shadowhawk and their relationship took a strange 180 from hate to love in about 2 pages. Usually, O'Banyon has her couple engaged in some sexual trysts before consummating their relationship, this pair however does not even have a tryst until Page 200!!!!

I felt this book went against everything I had come to expect from O'Banyon's wonderful writing, her ability to transport the reader is unique but I was not drawn into this story as I am with her other works--several of which I've read repeatedly.

It was almost as if she had a ghost writer for this story!!

Whether Constance O'Banyon writes about Ancient Egyptians or Native Americans, she can make you feel like you are part of their world. Shadowhawk is a a strong, yet sympathetic character. There is nothing he will not do to save Shiloh. This will make you a true lover of the historical genre. Immerse yourself in the store and enjoy.

This is a wonderful book. I love the fact that no matter what shadowhawk and shiloh bet the odds that were against them and were able to save her family's ranch while they fall in love.

this was one of the worst books i have ever read. i am a huge lover of this kind of book and i have read many. this one was such a disappointment. it was unbelievable, had poor dialogue, and had few details of the comanche culture. there are so many better native american romance novels out there to spend money on...keep looking.
