Nearly Perfect Live CD/DVD,
By
This review is from: Comatose Comes Alive (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
Skillet is one of the best Christian rock band success stories of the past decade in my opinion. From the self-titled debut album in 1996 until now, the band has continued to redefine itself into the superstar rock band that released one of this decade's best-selling Christian rock albums, Comatose. For me, the combination of strings, keyboard, guitar, drums and John Cooper's emotional vocals with his wife Korey's background vocals was meant to be heard and experienced live. Since I haven't actually had that privilege, this nearly perfect live CD/DVD combo is the next best thing.
Comatose Comes Alive was filmed and recorded in Tennessee and it is easily the most impressive Christian rock live recording I've heard and seen since Live In Portland by Kutless. The songs just erupt with what live rock concerts are all about. The energy, emotion, and musicianship are completely engaging and I haven't stopped listening to this album over the last couple of weeks. The instrumental intro builds perfectly to the standout song Comatose and then settle in for over 1 hour of great live music. If you like Skillet, you'll LOVE this album and for me the highlights were my two favorite songs The Older I Get and The Last Night, back to back. John Cooper explained the meaning behind the songs and I got goosebumps listening to both of them. There are no filler songs and the album ends with standout songs Rebirthing, Savior and one of my all-time favorites Best Kept Secret. As John says during the concert, expect to lose your voice after singing and screaming along with this nearly perfect live CD/DVD. Great gift idea for any hard rock music fans.

A Must-Have for True Skillet Fans -- Great video production & 5.1 Digital Surround Sound,

Having been to a Skillet concert, I can tell you that this video is about as close to being at the real thing as I can imagine. The video production is excellent, with cameras swinging from every direction. The sound is in Dolby Digital 5.1, and yes you will hear different people yelling from all 5 surround speakers. The entire production has been meticulously done to bring out every detail. You may have heard most of these songs, but the way they do them here puts a new twist on several of the songs. If you're a true Skillet fan, this is one of the best purchases you'll make, and you shouldn't be without this.

Skillet- Comatose Comes Alive [crobsession.blogspot.com],
This review is from: Comatose Comes Alive (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
This year, Skillet once again blew everyone away with the Comatose Tour 09, featuring Disciple and Decyfer Down. Last year, Skillet's Comatose Tour was an even bigger sucess, selling out at nearly every venue and even making the list of Top 50 Tours of Spring 08. During that tour, they recorded a live CD/DVD at their stop in Chattanooga, TN.
Known for their fantastic live performance, Skillet was very wise in putting out this album. On one hand, you have those who have never seen Skillet live. This album will motivate them to try harder to make it to the next show in their area. On the other hand you have fans who have seen Skillet live, or maybe even this exact tour. For them, this album will be a perfect reminder of that amazing show they went to. So either way, they'll have most real fans buying this album. And for those fans who think that they don't need this album because they already have all of Skillet's older albums, you're wrong. There isn't a song that doesn't sound different in some way or another. Songs like "Comatose," "Better Than Drugs," and "Those Nights" have different intros written specially for their live show. A good majority of the songs also contain screams by lead vocalist, John Cooper, which helps make the show even heavier and more exciting than thier album. He also inserts fun Skillet facts and jokes with the audience, and it makes the album a lot more personal from Skillet to the fans. But no need to worry, all of the talking is at the end of the tracks, so you don't have to skip through it to get to the music part. A big highlight of the album is during "Yours To Hold" in which Skillet's new drummer, Jen Ledger, does vocals for a verse. She has a great voice, and I'm sure we'll be hearing it a lot more on the new album, Awake. As far as the video goes, the quality is phenomenal. At times the video is distorted for effect, and can get a little annoying, but otherwise it's very well done. It makes the audio portion twice as good. You get to see how the band uses their energy to perform--mainly headbanging. Lots of headbanging. But they also do some cool stuff with their guitars, and the pyrotechnics are amazing. The whole thing makes you feel like you're at an actual Skillet show. They put on just as good live show for this album as they did when I saw them on the same tour. The only exception here is the volume and the people stepping on your feet. So, in a way, it's nice to experience a Skillet show from the comforts of your home, even though it's not even close to the real deal. So if you like this album, go to a Skillet show the next time their near you. It's a lot of fun! [READ MY CHRISTIAN ROCK REVIEWS AND NEWS UPDATES BY HEADING OVER TO [...]]

For many of us, this CD/DVD combo is the 1st time we get to hear the newest line-up of Skillet. At the begining of 2008 Lori Peters left Skillet, and handed her sticks over to Jen Ledger who had recently turned 18 when she took over. In my opions Jen had a difficult task to accomplish in being Lori's replacement. I must tell you, Jen has done a wonderful job, she is up to the task, very impressive!
Ben added a solo to 'My Obession', this version is great. John's growl in the begining of 'Whisper's in the dark' was a great new touch. All of the songs have slight diferences that I think adds to the enjoyability. I am pleased they did 'Angels Fall Down', which is one of my favorite worship songs. The Encore is 'Best Kept Secret', good to do an older song, I liked how Ben played guitar on it, this version is a little edgier than on 'Invincible'. The sound is studio quality, for both the audio CD and the DVD, and there was a lot of production work involved in the making of the DD. I highly suggest this CD/DVD

Skillet..,

This review is from: Comatose Comes Alive (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
It's hard to describe seeing Skillet live but this DVD comes close. I've seen them four times, 3 times on the Comatose tour and performance wise this show is comparable to everything I've seen. I haven't had a chance to listen to the cd yet so this is just about the DVD. Skillet definetely gives it their all every show, every night and that is why I don't understand why so many effects were used on the dvd. The weird slow motion used briefly at different times.. different color effects (black and white for brief moments) and there are so many switches from camera to camera that it feels kind of disjointed. It looked like whoever produced this dvd had a lot of fun trying everything! I was impressed with the quality but just felt distracted at times.
A very high energy and high quality performance and I would recommend this to any fan of Skillet (theres a little of everything here from old to new). Now I actually have something to show friends when they wonder why I keep going to their shows :).

Great CD/DVD but no Side B,

Cheap for what you get although I must say I'm angry that they hid 6 songs on "Side B" which does not exist!!!
There's only the CD and the DVD. The CD only has 15 songs!!! Buy it but know songs 16-21 are not on the CD. Amazon should not do this to their customers!

Without a doubt the closest you'll feel a live show without actually being there! Comatose is my favorite album, and the previous song played from other albums is a bonus! Even if you just heard of Skillet, this will not only prove how great of a studio band they are, but their 3x more impressive Live!!!!(recorded anyway haaa.)

First off this album arrived at my house quickly which I greatly appreciated. Before I go on about how great it is there is one problem: my Zune and Windows Media player software said the album was Lecrae's album Rebel or something like that which was frustrating but I edited and fixed. That is the only thing to be aware of. This is an awesome album and I love it! Skillet is my favorite Christian Rock artist and one of my top 3 artists in general. This album is as close to the live experience as it gets! I listened to it full through because our family took like an hour drive and it was awesome. The quality is awesome as well as a good choice of songs on there that I thoroughly enjoyed. The video part is very good quality and I enjoyed watching it. Skillet puts on a spectacular show with great music and cool pyrotechnics. All in all I would recommend this to any Skillet or rock fan.
