Editorial Reviews

This gritty, violent teen coming-of-age drama centers on two girls who become fascinated with the neo-Nazi youth movement. A commercial hit in Germany, the story follows two young women from the German suburbs: 20-year-old Marisa is a hardcore Neo-Nazi believer, a semi-skinhead who's been in the movement for years and whose body is adorned with Nazi tattoos; and 14-year-old Svenja, a sheltered, spoiled, straight-A student who only becomes fascinated with the group because of her neo-Nazi boyfriend. They begin as attention-seeking adversaries but become best friends, though their loyalty is shaken when Marisa decides she wants to leave the movement behind, a decision helped by her unlikely friendship with a scared young Afghan boy whose brother she injured in a hate crime. Like American History X and Romper Stomper, Combat Girls is extremely dynamic, powerful filmmaking. In German with English subtitles.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME MOVIE April 5, 2014
Format:DVD
THIS FEELS VERY REAL AND WELL ACTED AND WELL WRITTEN. DIRECTOR A MASTER FILM MAKER.
ITS UP THERE WITH ROMPER STOMPER BUT WAY MORE EMOTIONS AND YOU FEEL DEEP FEELINGS FOR THE CHARACTERS.
I JUST WISHED IT WAS DUBBED IN ENGLISH. BESIDES THAT AWESOME FLICK.

1.0 out of 5 stars Romper Stomper in Deutschland January 30, 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The title is an apt description.

The plot itself is predictable, if you have seen Romper Stomper. The characters one dimensional, cardboard cut outs from a liberal's wet dream. The whole film is just sad in a "This film is so bad I'm checking myself into the nearest hospital." sort of sad.

There are some really fantastic German films, unfortunately this is not one of them.
