Great Carseat!,
This review is from: Combi Shuttle Infant Car Seat (Baby Product)
My daughter is 5 months old now and we love this car seat! I did my research before deciding on a car seat/stroller combo, and decided on this one. This car seat is very light and easy for me to manage (I'm 5'2 and 110 lbs). I've read complaints about it being difficult to unlatch from the base, but taking the advice of people here, we used WD-40 on the mechanism and it has worked perfectly ever since - no problems at all! I unlatch the car seat from the base easily everytime.
I also like the anti-rebound bar, in addition to the added safety feature, it's a great added bar for holding onto while picking up or putting down the carseat. I've also had many compliments on the look of the car seat and stroller. The colors and design are great, fashionable but not loud. I've also noticed that my daughter LOVES to look at the dots design on the inside of the canopy, it is a perfect design for young eyes that are attracted to different colored dots and dot outlines! I catch her staring at it often and she sometimes reaches up to touch the dots.

This review is from: Combi Shuttle Infant Car Seat - Carbon (Baby Product)
I have rarely reviewed products, but I did a lot of research when buying a carseat as I know other soon-to-be moms do too. I have owned a Baby Trend Car Seat with my daughter and now this car seat for my 6 month old son. I still use this seat and as we spent a lot of money on it, I plan to keep it until my son has a forward-facing carseat. This seat drives me crazy!!
Things that are okay: It feels reasonably safe. The quality is fine. It is super cute. It's relatively easy to take apart and clean. Things that are NOT okay: The sunshade will not stay up on its own. Others complained about this and I brushed it off. But it drives me nuts. It does not fit in a shopping cart. It is very hard to get it out of the base. So that's it. If I were to do it again, I would buy the Baby Trend. It is a great seat and very reasonable priced. We bought this one mainly to fit into the double stroller that we bought from Combi. We love the double stroller, but hate this seat.

I bought this stroller for my son prior to his birth, and I love it. It's easy to fold up the stroller and put it in the car and great for moving around in congested areas! The only thing that kept me from giving this travel system 5 stars was that my son is only 5 months old and the car seat has started to pill where his feet rub. I really liked the texture of the material when I bought it, but it seems like it might not have been the best for durability. I also love the rebound bar and the simplicity of getting the car seat in and out of the car. I would definitely recommend this (or any other combi product) to any parents out there!

My husband and I bought this car seat to go with the matching Combi Helio DX stroller in the same apricot color. They both arrived in perfect condition, and are super simple to put together. The car seat is extremely high quality, and the rebound bar you see in the front is a nice feature. The color is gorgeous, and it snaps in seamlessly to the stroller. We also purchased an additional base so each of our cars would have one. It's very lightweight, and therefore easy on your arms. Now we're just waiting on our baby girl to get here!

Love this carseat/stroller!,

I have a 6 and 7 year old, so I definitely had certain criteria that had to be met when shopping for baby gear (based upon what I liked/disliked from my older children).
I had my mind set on the Chicco KeyFit30 carseat, but after receiving the Combi Cosmo EX Stroller as a gift from my parents, I thought I would look into this carseat (I really wanted the ability to place the carseat in the stroller and I LOVE the sturdy, compact design of the stroller). I read the opinions for this product on Amazon.com and wondered why the mixed reviews? There is not a store in my state that carries this model carseat--so my husband and I couldn't see it before buying it, but I was intrigued by the stabilizer bar, as well as the light weight of the actual seat. So, I went out on a limb and ordered the carseat in hopes it would not disappoint. It arrived the day my daughter was born, so we didn't have a chance to play with it prior to taking her home, but I was pleased with the quality when it came out of the box. We've also had plenty of opportunity to use the carseat since our daughter was born in early October. 1. Fabric: It is not the softest, but honestly, after having had soft fabric, I appreciate the fact that this fabric looks and feels like it could withstand the wear and tear of more than one child. (Also--My daughter had to have blood work done everyday the first week of her life. After one of the blood draws, the bandaid fell off my daughter's foot and a fair amount of blood got on the carseat fabric. At first, I was upset, but after using Hydrogen Peroxide and a paper towel, I was able to get the blood out of the fabric!) 2. Sun Shade: It stays up by itself (previous reviews state otherwise). When the carseat is in the stroller, the sunshade on the stroller almost meets the sunshade of the carseat. I rectify this by throwing a blanket over the top. No big deal. 3. Overall design: This includes the plastic shell-I am very pleased with the quality of the whole product. It is light weight and sturdy. The stabilizer bar clearly states to NOT carry the carseat by the bar which is fine--you'd probably drop the baby anyway, but it is helpful when getting the carseat in and out of the car. No, the seat does not come with a head support, but rather than buy one, we stick some burp cloths (we use cloth diapers) next to the baby's head--they double as spit up catchers ;). The straps are easily tightened and loosened. The buckles are made of sturdy plastic. The bottom buckle goes together like a key before going into the locking system--this can prove to be a little tricky if you are in a hurry, but hopefully we are all striving for "Safety First" with our children and not necessarily what is most convenient. This carseat definitely beats the pants off of the bulky, heavy Graco carseat I had 8 years ago with my first!

My husband and I had to give up our Graco infant seat and single stroller for a double stroller since we have another one on the way, but needed something smaller since we have a smaller car (Pontiac G6). I'm also not that big a person (I'm 5'3, and my husband is 6'2). After looking and doing research, we ended up getting the Combi Double Stroller in Papaya with the shuttle infant car seat. The stroller fits well in the back of our trunk and still leaves space for groceries, diaper bags, or whatever else we need to throw back there. When we first got out the car seat, we too had a little trouble unlatching it from the base and just thought I would use it without the base. But like other suggestions, we also used some WD40 on both the car seat (both latches and release handle) and base, worked snapping it in and out a couple of times, and it works great. Now I don't have any problems at all getting it in and out of car, and totally love it. I don't the fabric is scratchy at all (the baby isn't going to be naked in it) and I love the safety feature of the rebound bar...it also give me something else to hold too when taking the seat in and out of the car.

I purchased this seat so that I could snap it into the Combi double stroller that I already owned. That part is great! The downside is that the infant seat bottom buckle is very difficult to latch, especially with a squirmy infant! I previously owned a Graco Snugride, and preferred the buckle design of that one, hands down. However, I really liked the Combi double stroller better than the Graco double stroller, so that is why I purchased the Combi Shuttle Infant Car Seat, so that I would have the ability to "snap" it into the stroller.

I bought this car seat because I had the double stroller in the same brand and I wanted a car seat that would fit into it. Big mistake. I would have been better off buying the cheapest car seat as this one has been the biggest pain. The canopy offers little to no sun protection. It never stays up, and it actually broke after only 2 months of use. When I called Combi to get a replacement part they gave me the runaround, and even though it was under warranty they charged me $13 for shipping when they mailed the replacement part in an envelope!!!! It probably cost them all of $1 to ship. Another major con is that the seat does not fit into anything EVERY OTHER car seat in the market fits into. You can't put it in a shopping cart because it doesn't clasp in the back like all the other ones. That in it of itself makes it almost worthless because I can't push a shopping cart and a stroller all by myself. You would think for the money you spend on this, the product would be more user friendly. I'm never buying anything Combi again. They're products are quite inferior to anything else out there.

The car seat is cheaply made out of plastic. It's really hard to take out from the base. I have to have all my power into my one hand squeezing so hard, and struggle for a few minutes to take the car seat from the base. I am so tired of doing that and thinking of purchasing a better one (definitely not from Combi). I wonder why some people like this car seat. And as some people point out, the shade doesn't stay up, and the base constantly loosen up so I have to tighten up. The first seat I got was defective!! One of the button was broken. I called customer service, and it was the worst service I've ever had. I had to send lots of photos to prove it is defective and I had to pay shipping fee. How come Combi USA can sell defective product and still make customer pay to replace? The only pros: it looks cute.
I believed Japanese product is safe and good, but sadly, it was not. I am not going to purchase anything from Combi. I really want to return this car seat, but I purchased way before my daughter arrives, and now I can't return to the store... |
