Book Description

May 21, 1999
The 432-page `COMBINED ATLANTIC DIVER GUIDE' is the most comprehensive scuba diving guide for Atlantic Canada. Each of the 207 dive sites features a full page of text plus a map/chart on the opposing page. This guide covers the Maritimes and Atlantic Canada including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick plus the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon. Some of the amazing sites include the four intact, upright and armed merchant ships (each over 400 feet long) that were torpedoed by German U-boats off Bell Island, Newfoundland; the 200-foot vertical wall dive within Gros Morne National Park; the 1758 wrecks within the Fortress of Loiusbourg Harbour; and the former H.M.C.S. naval destroyer SAGUENAY (featured on the cover) which was scuttled in Lunenburg Harbour as a dive site. The guide includes an address list of regional dive shops and services.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Review: "An amazing compilation of history and dive sites....the best divers guide to Atlantic Canada!"

About the Author

David N. Barron began diving off Newfoundland in 1979 and travelled extensively throughout Atlantic Canada before publishing the original versions of the four Atlantic Diver Guides in 1988 (now out-of-print after selling 11,000 copies).

From 1990 to 1992, David created and produced the Divers Free Press newspaper.

After 16 years on the 'Rock' (Newfoundland), David relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to continue his research of our marine history which resulted in a database containing more than 65,000 records of North American shipwrecks on the CD-ROM (see Northern Shipwrecks Database).

He is working now on a long-term project to document the 200,000 Atlantic region vessels, builders and owners from 1787 to 1940, while continuing to add to his shipwreck database.

4.0 out of 5 stars Diving in Atlantic Canada, June 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Combined Atlantic Diver Guide (Paperback)
This is a very comprehensive look at diving sites accrross the maritime provinces. A friend has this guide and we have tried some of the dive sites listed and they were great. I have heard that some of the sites listed in Newfoundland are inaccurate, but the ones I've tried in New Brunswick are excellent!!

This book is a great guide to interesting dive spots in the Atlantic region. I am a new diver and I found the book to be self explanatory and simple to follow. Good book for visitors as well as resident diovers. Loads of interesting facts.
