5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Very Sturdy for a Toy Called Battle Machine
Pros:
1. Battle works as advertised, infrared "lasers" worked great (have only tried in the evening).

Cons:
1. Pain to get out of the packaging, requires a small screw driver just to get it off the cardboard - actually had to go to Home Depot to get one (add $3.99 for that).
2. Cars are slow, even got out the WD-40 to get the wheels really...

I purchased three Jada Battle Machines this Christmas as gifts for my eleven year old son, twenty-one year old nephew and forty year old husband. I was a little hesitant because the radio controlled helicopters I had purchased a previous year were impossible to fly and a huge disappointment. These Battle Machines have surpassed my expectations. While I don't know how they work in single player mode, my guys have had a great time battling in the multi-player mode.
Each vehicle has a laser mounted to its hood that can be fired from the hand-held controller. When properly aimed at the rear of an opponent's car, a hit is recorded. When his vehicle is hit, an opponent loses control of his car for a few seconds as it shakes. After three hits, the vehicle is out of commission and drives off, then stalls until reset. These vehicles move fairly quickly and accidents happen frequently. The vehicles have proven to be very durable, crashing into each other, walls, and furniture with only some minor paint scuffs.
The whole process is quite amusing and exciting. On fresh batteries, the vehicles move very quickly on smooth floors. They also move well on very low pile carpet and rugs but have to be nudged over any rug edges. The vehicles themselves require four AA batteries. We have used just regular, mid-priced batteries and they have lasted in the vehicles for about three hours of play.

I like that the frequency for each vehicle is different. I have two sons and it was always a battle if the two of them wanted to play with a remote control (whatever) at the same time. This allowed both kids to play because the frequencies are different.
So if you have kids close in age that like to play remote control cars at the same time, this gift is for you. The noise is a little annoying, but I am an adult and that is part of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still running strong after two hard days., December 26, 2009

We bought 4 of them and are so pleased.

The kids (including adults) have just had a ball. They do only like the hard surfaces, but they get up and move. We haven't had one item break off yet.

With some practice, my 7 year old daughter was able to do 180's and then speed in reverse firing back at her brother's car.

My son (9 year old) likes to do 360's.

We did get rechargeable batteries. After 2 days we have not had to recharge them yet.

I did make tiny labels (6 pt font) for the remotes and the cars to help figure out which remote went with which car. I also labeled the cars so we knew what letter it should be on. ex: red mustang 49C

The kids and I give this gift and A+.

2. Cars are slow, even got out the WD-40 to get the wheels really greased (were a little better after that).
3. Requires smooth pavement, doesn't handle cracks in the concrete very well (get stuck alot in the driveway) and forget about driving out of the grass or carpet.
4. We crashed the cars into each other a bit, afterall they're "battle machines", and plastic pieces were popping off. Mine didn't drive the same after I took a hit and lost part of my bumper.

We wouldn't by this toy again.
