Bought enough of these to fix 4 DeWalt 18vdc power packs. Over a year ago I sent some power packs out to a company that often is noted in forums and has an eBay page. Since only half of them continue to work after a year it was time for me to try these on my own.

I can wire up anything and very mechanical, so these were no problem. It took me about 50 minutes per 18vdc pack from start to finish, so the per pack cost was $25 batteries and I kept $25 for myself compared to buying new 2-for packages. Good deal for me.

The trick I learned if you've never done these is to assemble the batteries into the lower shell, then bend and solder the tabs using the old battery assembly (with the fish paper removed) as your guide. When done with that side, apply duct tape, flip them over and solder up the opposite side. I used a chisel to separate the top connector to the single battery in the neck, then just soldered that one like the others. Duct tape was used to hold the pack together in place of the fish tape top and bottom. I've been using them heavily for the past few weeks with good results.

I had several 18v DeWalt battery packs where the batteries wouldn't hold a charge anymore. I used these batteries to replace the old ones and found that the tools work better than ever and seem to hold a charge longer. Frankly, folding the tabs to the right configuration can be a chore (and they have sharp edges) so I switched to the same battery without the tabs and picked up some nickel solder tabs (Amazon or Ebay) to make assembly much cleaner and easier. I now use this method instead of the tabbed batteries. Either way, the batteries work great and I plan to use them in the future.

To add further information that may be helpful: I have had success with the following process to solder the nickel solder tabs to the untabbed batteries. First, roughen up the terminals (I used a Dremel grinder) to get a fresh surface with a little bit of "tooth". Use flux - you can get a lifetime supply at Radio Shack or an electronics store (rosin core solder didn't work as well. Brush the flux on the terminal, then solder the solder tab in place. Quick and easy with the right materials. I also use rubber bands to hold groups of batteries together for soldering. Work carefully and your battery pack will be better than new with substantial savings.

Batteries hold a good charge compared to the OEM battery packs they replaced, but user error in making the battery packs lead to one set not working as well as the other. This was my 1st attempt at soldering batteries together and I got a bit too much heat into the battery (my guess as to why one holds a much longer charge compared to the other battery pack). On the 2nd pack I soldered tab to tab and not tab to battery as in the 1st. Tabs bend easy enough to move them into desired position.

Product could be improved by adding some simple guidelines in creating and soldering battery packs. Better yet an online video would really help.

the only thing is the tabs are aiming the same way, which makes it difficult to solder. You have to break them off and re-solder them in the right direction to assemble.

Rebuit a 14.4 Milwaukee and a Bosch 18 pack with these cells. It took some time to get the hang of soldering the leads. I used the heat shrink to add some insulation on the Pos side. The soldering heated the lead and it melted though the thin platic coating on the Pos side shorting the cell. Looking do purchase some more to do another 14.4 Milwaukee

Re-packed the batteries on my Black and Decker hand vacuum. Much cheaper to replace battery pack than to buy a new vacuum. Batteries are high capacity and better than the OEM batteries.
