You and I have been listening to music forever, right? I'm a fan of Radiohead, Built To Spill, Beck, Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, and Wilco. Listen to this guy, check out 'Fear' at least. Can't get him out of my car. B

This an awesome album. Benjy Ferree's sound is totally unique, if anyone else is making rock and roll like this, I haven't heard it! He is a genius!

This recording is just amazing. You can tell Ferree is passionate about the content and the results are amazing lyrics and melodies. It's seldom that I experience love at first hear; most bands end up growing on me. This one hasn't left my car cd player since I bought it.

4 of 6 critics like Come Back...,

I've read 6 reviews of this album, 4 critics liked it, 2 didn't. Below is my attempt at aggregating all those reviews.
This is the second album from Washing DC-based Benjy Ferree. It's a concept album about the life and death of Bobby Driscoll, a child actor who worked for Disney in the 50s. He lost his contract with Disney when he got really bad acne. He eventually died broke in New York after an addiction to heroin. The music is interesting and quirky. It moves from genre to genre including blues-rock, country, and Beach-Boys-style, California pop. Most critics felt that the concept didn't overwhelm the album and that Ferree moved the concept to put himself front and center (in a good way). However, some of the critics got hung up on the concept. They felt it made the album mediocre instead of good. |
