This is very cool., February 6, 2007
This review is from: Come Closer (Audio CD)
I bought this 'cause I heard "Calling Your Name" on an XM station. It comes up on i-tunes as "unclassifiable" which is usually a good sign. Coleman's music is a little like listening to Mary Black or Patty Griffen backed up by Calexico on a day they forgot they were an 'Alternative' band. In my version of heaven there's a 1920's chicago speakeasy that's been relocated to the southwest and this is the house band. The songs all are solid and have a good hook and a blend of instrumentation that makes you think of a tex-mex cantina, a smokey jazz bar, a nashville roadhouse, and a frenchquarter dive all at the same time. A couple of songs deviate into jazz (Sleep Late) or caberet (Take a Chance) but the rest are a refreshing mix of style and arrangement that sounds uber-retro but funky enough to be relevant. Her voice is clear and full without any quirkiness and without any irony. If you like Robinella, Toni Price, Jolie Holland, Maria Muldaur, Nellie Mckay, Regina Spektor, Ingrid Lucia, etc. this should make you happy.

A Little-Known Gem, May 11, 2007
This review is from: Come Closer (Audio CD)
Like a lot of the other reviewers, I heard "Calling Your Name" on XM and loved it. I then downloaded a couple other tracks and loved them just as much. When I bought this cd, I found that the entire set is just fantastic music. Her songs are upbeat and catchy and her musical talents are surprising because you'd think that she'd be more popular. If you like good, fun, and unique songs, you'll like this album.

Eminently Listenable and Very Tasty Indeed..., April 4, 2007
This review is from: Come Closer (Audio CD)
I too heard "Calling Your Name" on an XM station and was blown away. I was like "wow, this is GOOD, who the heck IS this?". Came home and grabbed the entire CD and all I can say is "try it, you'll like it!" It's certainly very different than most of what's out there, and I mean that in a very good way. A wide variety of musical styles combined with such a lovely singing voice - it's a very good thing for sure. Take a chance on this one - I'm quite sure you'll be glad you did.

Quincy provides a delightful, unique sound to her music, perfectly executed ... it's something reminiscent of the past brought to the present. A must have addition to anyone's music library.
