Completely Obsolete as of 2005,
By Cami Manninen (Henderson, NV) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come Fly with Me [CD + DVD] [Amaray] (Audio CD)
This DVD was the first one released by Michael Buble, and I bought it in hopes of seeing some of his live performances. There are segments of performances, but the editing and fast, wild cuts from one angle to the next to the next to the next really detract from the overall effect. The performances get largely lost. What remains is a LOT of footage of Michael and his original bandmembers drinking, clubbing, gambling, womanizing, and generally acting like rowdy frat boys.
If you really want to be wowed and experience what a live Buble concert is like, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "Caught in the Act". This DVD lives up to it's name as part of the PBS Great Performances series produced by David Foster. "Caught in the Act" is slick, glossy, flashy, enormously fun and absolutely true to the real experience. I've seen Buble perform live twice, and I can attest that "Caught in the Act" is just about as good as being there.

Michael Bublé Shines Again!,

This review is from: Come Fly With Me (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
Michael Bublé shines again with this wonderful CD/DVD treat! Produced by David Foster and Humberto Gatica and backed-up by a full big band orchestra, this is a follow-up to his successful and most raved-about CD "Michael Bublé."
Listening to the CD is just terrific with eight fabulous tracks, but the DVD is a real delight watching him perform twelve timeless classics and not to mention the interview footages in between his outstanding and remarkable performances. One of the songs Mr. Bublé performed on the DVD is very memorable and brings back a lot of memories to me, "The Way You Look Tonight," which is my all-time favorite and so much a part of my life! And it is the very first non-classical piece that I learned to play on piano. I remember my sister arranged a medley of this lovely song with "Blue Moon" that we both loved to play together. "The Way You Look Tonight" ~ Words and Music by Jerome Kern & Dorothy Fields ~ Someday, when I'm awfully low When the world is cold I will feel a glow just thinking of you And the way you look tonight... You're lovely, with your smile so warm And your cheeks so soft There is nothing for me but to love you And the way you look tonight... With each word your tenderness grows Tearin' my fears apart And that laugh that wrinkles your nose Touches my foolish heart... Lovely, never ever change Keep that breathless charm Won't you please arrange it 'cause I love you... Just the way you look tonight Most of the songs rendered are included in his "Michael Bublé" CD with the exception of "Can't Help Falling In Love," "Mack The Knife," "You'll Never Know," "My Funny Valentine" and Sinatra's signature song and one of my all-time favorites, "Nice 'N' Easy," which he performed splendidly in every way. There's no doubt that Mr. Bublé is a total performer with his amazing stage presence and his marvelous voice, which is his greatest asset. I've ordered this CD/DVD combo from Amazon.com over a year ago and that makes this review a "late-bloomer" but as the saying goes..."It's better late than never." Strongly recommended!

AMATUER CAMERA MAN!!,
By mommyofchristopher "mommyofchristopher" (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come Fly With Me (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
Love Michael Buble, but this was more like a home made movie of someone using their camcorder from the audience. Parts of Michael's head was cut off, and then; sometimes, his whole head was cut off. Most of the time, the camera man didn't expect where Michael was going to move to and you'll get a jerky movement of the camera man trying to get Michael back into the picture. I wish they would have said in the description that this was more of a documentary than a concert. That this was just home made videos. This was definitely not worth $20. If you want a professional quality concert, I would recommend buying Michael Buble's Caught in the Act. Caught in the Act was worth the $20 bucks. You get professional camera men who anticipated Michael's movements, and parts of his head was never cut off like Come Fly with Me's DVD. Also, the sound quality on Caught in the Act was way better. Now, I understand why some places sold Come Fly with Me DVD's and had the word enhanced after it. The DVD that I received was not enhanced. Anyways, skip this one, and get "Caught in the Act" instead.

Sublime showcase of the new Voice,
By Tom Harrison (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come Fly with Me [CD + DVD] [Amaray] (Audio CD)
Michael Buble is taking the music world by storm - weaving his way through the masses of manufactured two-bit pop 'stars' and the hip-hop onslaught, and proving that big band jazz vocalists can still make it in the 21st century. This DVD also proves that it is possible to watch such music on film and not lose complete interest in the genre. Buble is the sort of guy record companies must live for - good looking, crowd-grabbing, popular, youthful, and then there's that little matter of his voice. This concert DVD is focused solely on Michael Buble, and rightly so. The guy is a master. He oozes personality and class, and has you in the palm of his hand once he's warmed up. This DVD is very well produced, combining live stage performances and interviews with Buble and his band members. Unlike some music DVDs that do this, the interviews do not cut into the music, and all tracks are shown in full. The interviews show an insight into the man behind the microphone, and Buble is displayed as a fun, humorous, easy-going guy - much like his singing. Great stuff for Buble fans - it'll only consolidate your love for the man and his voice. Much recommended.

Buy the CD, wait for a better DVD!!,
This review is from: Come Fly with Me [CD + DVD] [Amaray] (Audio CD)
I bought this DVD after the last CD, which I LOVE and haven't stopped listening to since I got it, which is why I was all the more dissappointed by the horrible production in the DVD. The "live" video parts are just a horrible mesh of fade-in, fade-outs, b&w, cut to another take... enough to give you motion sickness! (and I love mtv, so its not that). the music is fantastic, but i would advice to buy a cd instead and wait for a better dvd to come out. he does come through as a pretty nice guy in the short inverview bits, but even those are with a camera thats jumping every which way in a moving car (thank god for traffic lights, at least when the car stops the camera stays still). advice to michael: stay AWAY from whoever edited this horrible thing.
the live cd it comes with is not bad, though...

Tired of Feeling Duped,
By A-Train (Denver, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come Fly With Me (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
There comes a point when a consumer feels taken advantage of. Michael Buble's CD/DVD combo "Come Fly With Me" is one of those points. First, there was a poorly produced soundtrack album. Nobody took notice. Next came Buble's self-titled debut, and many of us listened, but apparantly not enough of us. Because after a couple of tracks for a soundtrack (Down With Love) and an unsatisfying 4-song Christmas EP, Record Producers decided to release "Come Fly With Me" as an even bigger attempt and harder push to capture new fans. Old fans are stuck with 2 new tracks and 6 cuts from the previous album recorded live. These live performances capture nothing from what I'm guessing is a pretty jamming live show and sound as if they were taped through a Fisher Price cassette recorder. But the surprising thing is, fans are eating this stuff up (read the reviews) despite the obvious Big Marketing Machine at work here.I bought "Come Fly With Me" for the DVD more than anything. Little is seen, heard or known about Buble' here in the States and I thought the DVD would be a great chance to know a little more about the crooner and see him in action. The DVD also sadly disappoints. Running just an hour we get concert footage with interviews and 'real' moments of the band horsing around from the tour. This is a good format for a concert video, but the problem is with the live concert footage. It's edited like an MTV video. Rapid-fire editing and swishing camera movements is not the way I want to see intimate classics like 'My Funny Valentine' or 'That's All' performed. This is obviously the work of an amateur. Buble' has personality, but the camera won't linger on him long enough to let it shine through. To see how a great Swinging concert video is put together I highly recommend Harry Connick Jr's "Swingin' Out Live". Buble's Camp better put together something more solid next time or they're going to start losing fans. You can only re-record the same song over and over again before people get bored!

I ALMOST DID NOT BUY THIS DVD/CD BECAUSE OF THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS I READ ON AMAZON, HOWEVER AFTER SEEING MICHAEL BUBLE IN CONCERT , AND SEEING WHAT HE GIVES OF HIMSELF TO HIS AUDIENCE , I WANTED TO SEE ALL THERE WAS TO SEE AND BOUGHT IT, HOW BAD COULD IT BE? IT IS WONDERFUL , BESIDES HIS AMAZING TALENT , THIS DVD IS FUN, FUNKY , AND SO ENTERTAINING, YES THERE IS LOTS OF CAMERA MOVEMENT , WITH OFF STAGE ANTICS INTERSPURSED WITH ON STAGE MUSIC, NOT THE TYPICAL CONCERT DVD, FOR THAT GET THE WONDERFUL "CAUGHT IN THE ACT" BUT ANYONE WHO WANTS TO SEE ANOTHER SIDE OF THIS YOUNG, TALENTED, HUMBLE, GIVING, ENTERTAINER SEE THIS AND ENJOY !!! GLAD I DECIDED YES!!!

I saw Michael during his concert in Tampa so watching him on the DVD was exciting. Enjoyed learning more about him as a person as well as a entertainer. He is awesome to watch. His band is outstanding. A CD and DVD, what a great package for the money. The CD is played at home and at work. Buble has it all; great voice, great music, it's a must have to enjoy again and again.

Flying too low,

The sound engineer for this cd should probably find a day job.
Throughout several tracks, I could hardly hear Buble, while the band blasted. It seemed like he moved from one side of the stage to the other, but the volume was not increased so that he could be heard. Faded in and out. Somewhat disappointing.

Perfect Package,

This review is from: Come Fly With Me (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
What a package! The CD is great and it offers a chance to compare studio versions with the DVD live versions of the same songs. Mega bonus here....the DVD has three of the "sessions@AOL" songs! "The Way You Look Tonight" will break your heart!
The DVD has one flaw which makes it appear that it was edited by someone on a really strange acid trip! The constant cut aways from Michael singing on stage are a bit annoying but many of the cuts go straight to footage of Michael talking about many different aspects of his life and they are quite interesting. The main fault is that when you do see Michael singing in concert, the cuts, superimpositions and the speed with which they are carried out left me with the distinct feeling that the producer/director/editor of the film footage did not feel that a straight-on shot of Michael could hold a Bublé fan's attention for more than three seconds. Proof positive that they didn't know squat about Michael's fans and also that they should never be allowed to work on a video project concerning Michael ever again. Fortunately the up close and personal shots of Michael talking about his life/career provide some redemption for the psychedelics of the editing. It's beautifully packaged and on the inside, it has the famous photo of Michael showing off two buttons worth of his chest and it's 5X5! |
