Woah.,

No, seriously- woah. A friend of mine listened to this CD and said, "this is like taking too much codeine." Doing that is not recommended. Buying this album is. If Burt Bacharach and Beth Gibbons got together, I'm sure this would be their lovechild."Come From Heaven" is truly the perfect synthesis of '60's pop and downtempo music. The vocals of Barnard, White, and Stubbs (ESPECIALLY Stubbs) are exquisite. Every song blends into one another, creating a lasting experience for the entire album, rather than just focusing on songs. The other band that seems to do this so well is Massive Attack (ironically, Alpha is on Massive's label, Melonkolic). Each track has the capability of whisking the listener away into some faraway place, never to return. And at an average of five to six minutes a track, you'll be in "Heaven" a long time. The two shortcomings of this CD, as I see them, are song structure and depth. The atypical structure (read: practically nonexistent) of the songs is at first refreshing, but can get a little on the disappointing side toward the end of the CD (expecially once you realize that track 3 and the last track, two of the CD's best songs, use the same melody). While the CD soars on its lush orchestrations and uplifting vocals, when they are in the downtime of their songs, just repeating the same sample over and over again, Alpha's beautiful armor wears thin. More like an 8.5 out of 10, and an essential CD to any music fan's collection.

Now My Heart Is Full,
By A Customer
This review is from: Come From Heaven (Audio CD)
This CD has done it for me. It reafirms my belief that music today can be inventive while adhering to tradition, it can be futuristic while being retro, it can be dreamy yet so emotional. It is one of the most beautiful CDs that I have ever heard. Please go out and get it and let yourselves be moved.

Music from heaven?,
By JACKIE THOMAS (hudson, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come From Heaven (Audio CD)
In 1999 I order one dozen of this cd and send them to my good friends for xmas, today we still find something to say about this album. if there was a recording studio in heaven the music would've sounded just like "come from heaven".this recording is living testimony that in the world of structural and sampling music you still have endless room for creativity. Buy this cd put on your favored headphones and soon you will be traveling thru a vast sonic lanscape, always discrete, melancholic but not to let you down or felling sad and alone, in did, there is a touch of hope in every one of this wonderfully executed lircys.
