No, seriously- woah. A friend of mine listened to this CD and said, "this is like taking too much codeine." Doing that is not recommended. Buying this album is. If Burt Bacharach and Beth Gibbons got together, I'm sure this would be their lovechild.

3.0 out of 5 stars My Life Without Me
There is a soundtrack to the movie, however it's an import. You can find is on Amazon.de (if you speak german LOL) and also you can get it on [...]. I keep seeing people get ripped off for copies of the soundtrack on ebay paying up to 50 bucks, I got mine from germanmusicexpress for like 25 bucks and it included shipping. Well worth it! Buy the soundtrack don't waste...

No, seriously- woah. A friend of mine listened to this CD and said, "this is like taking too much codeine." Doing that is not recommended. Buying this album is. If Burt Bacharach and Beth Gibbons got together, I'm sure this would be their lovechild.

"Come From Heaven" is truly the perfect synthesis of '60's pop and downtempo music. The vocals of Barnard, White, and Stubbs (ESPECIALLY Stubbs) are exquisite. Every song blends into one another, creating a lasting experience for the entire album, rather than just focusing on songs. The other band that seems to do this so well is Massive Attack (ironically, Alpha is on Massive's label, Melonkolic). Each track has the capability of whisking the listener away into some faraway place, never to return. And at an average of five to six minutes a track, you'll be in "Heaven" a long time.

The two shortcomings of this CD, as I see them, are song structure and depth. The atypical structure (read: practically nonexistent) of the songs is at first refreshing, but can get a little on the disappointing side toward the end of the CD (expecially once you realize that track 3 and the last track, two of the CD's best songs, use the same melody). While the CD soars on its lush orchestrations and uplifting vocals, when they are in the downtime of their songs, just repeating the same sample over and over again, Alpha's beautiful armor wears thin.

More like an 8.5 out of 10, and an essential CD to any music fan's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now My Heart Is Full, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Come From Heaven (Audio CD)
This CD has done it for me. It reafirms my belief that music today can be inventive while adhering to tradition, it can be futuristic while being retro, it can be dreamy yet so emotional. It is one of the most beautiful CDs that I have ever heard. Please go out and get it and let yourselves be moved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music from heaven?, February 18, 2002

In 1999 I order one dozen of this cd and send them to my good friends for xmas, today we still find something to say about this album. if there was a recording studio in heaven the music would've sounded just like "come from heaven".this recording is living testimony that in the world of structural and sampling music you still have endless room for creativity. Buy this cd put on your favored headphones and soon you will be traveling thru a vast sonic lanscape, always discrete, melancholic but not to let you down or felling sad and alone, in did, there is a touch of hope in every one of this wonderfully executed lircys.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lounge variant on the Trip-Hop genre., June 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Come From Heaven (Audio CD)
Those who listen to this CD and expect to hear something like the groundbreaking Portishead will not be entirely disappointed, but don't expect an exact clone. That's rather good, I think. Alpha takes the Trip-Hop genre into lounge territory with a sound that is somber, yet not so gut-wrenching.

5.0 out of 5 stars BURT BACHARACH MEETS EURO/SYNTH/AMBIENT!, May 27, 1998

Listening to Alpha's COME FROM HEAVEN CD was a pleasant surprise. Somewhow, Wendy Stubb's ethereal vocals and all of the textured, layered oversampling of its tracks subliminally compete over my childhood memories of Dionne Warwick's soulful renditions of Mr. Bacharach's music. If you like Hooverphonic, Air's Moon Safari, or Craig Armstrong's The Space Between Us, mixed with some 60's psychodelia via Chemical Brothers, this album is for YOU!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, December 24, 2002

You know, I purchased this CD in 1997, and I listened to it all the time because I just loved it. Well, I went about a year without listening to this CD, and then I picked it up yesterday, and it just kicked me in the stomach all over again. A review just doesn't do this CD justice, you have to listen to it to experience it. That's what this CD is, an EXPERIENCE.

Today I picked this CD out to show my missus and said; 'I bought this in 1997, and cannot understand why I haven't bought the rest of their albums'! As a result I'm here, 7am, in Dubai ordering the whole lot! Come From Heaven is totally, well just effin excellent to this day! It has followed me around the world, always there, always putting a smile on my face! India, Europe, Patagonia, Easter Islands, .... just there, bouncing off audiophile headphones, never 'in the way', ....making itself timeless!... 'In Heaven'!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I listen to anything from Bjork,to Miles Davis ,to Coldplay Massive Attack., October 21, 2007
This review is from: Come From Heaven (Audio CD)
This CD is great. From the very first track "My way" you will be blown away. It is truly heavenly. This is one of those cd's that you can let play straight through or put it on random. Whatever the playing order it sounds beautiful. The string arrangements are superb. Pour yourself a glass of wine. Kick off you shoes ,turn the lights down low and enjoy. If you like downtempo music and jazz, get this cd. I will certainly look into " Impossible Thrill.
