Book Description

Home is where her heart is

When Presley Christensen returns to Whiskey Creek with her little boy after two years away, she has completely changed her life. She's made peace with her past and overcome the negative behavior that resulted from her difficult childhood. Now she's back in the small town that was the closest thing to "home" she ever knew—the town where she can be with the sister who's her only family.

There's just one catch. Aaron Amos still lives in Whiskey Creek, at least until he moves to Reno to open a branch of the Amos brothers' auto body shop. And no matter how hard she's tried, Presley hasn't been able to get over him. Seeing him again makes the longing so much worse. But she hopes she can get through the next few months, because she can't fall back into his arms…or his bed. She's come too far to backslide now. And there's a secret she's been guarding—a secret she'll do anything to protect.

Editorial Reviews

"Whenever I see a new Brenda Novak book, I buy it and read it, pronto."
-Linda Lael Miller, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"Romantic gold by a superior novelist."
-RT Book Reviews on When Lightning Strikes

"A hero in need of redemption, a heroine up to the challenge, and an idyllic California gold country setting brilliantly launch Novak's foray into the thriving 'small-town community' market."
-Library Journal on When Lightning Strikes

"[The characters'] heartwarming romance develops slowly and sweetly. The sex is fantastic, but the best part is how Simon and Gail tease and laugh as they grow closer."
-Publishers Weekly on When Lightning Strikes

"It's steamy, it's poignant, it's perfectly paced-it's When Lightning Stikes and you don't want to miss it!"'s Happy Ever After blog

"In this sensitive, passionate, and heartbreakingly poignant second installment of her Whiskey Creek series, Novak masterfully explores what happens when a woman whose entire life has been consumed by playing a variety of roles casts off her suffocating masks and, with the support of an unexpected lover, embraces who she was, is and can be."
-RT Book Reviews on When Snow Falls (2012 Reviewers' Choice Winner and Nominee for Book of the Year)

"With a great supporting cast of characters Novak fans have come to know quite well, When Summer Comes is a magical addition to the already heartwarming Whiskey Creek series."
-Fresh Fiction

"[Home to Whiskey Creek is an] engrossing, character-rich story that takes a hard look at responsibility, loyalty and the results of telling (or concealing) the truth."
-Library Journal

"Affecting, painful, sometimes funny, but ultimately satisfying, this engrossing tale of love and forgiveness takes on real problems and gives its characters the strength and compassion to come through with flying colors. Real people-with all their virtues and vices-live in Whiskey Creek, and Ted and Sophia will be two more you'll be glad to have met."-Library Journal on Take Me Home for Christmas (Starred Review)

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT a good idea March 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I was given the opportunity to read and review “Come Home to Me” by Brenda Novak. I love Brenda’s Whiskey Creek series and I was excited to revisit my favorite couple, Cheyenne and Dylan. I loved their story in “When Snow Falls”. I liked getting to know more about Presley and Aaron’s relationship as well. I loved how two people with troubled pasts were able to turn their lives around. I didn’t get why Presley couldn’t seem to understand that if she could turn her life around so could Aaron. I love this series, but this book enraged me so much. I was so excited to read more about Cheyenne and Dylan but Cheyenne’s scheme was too much for me. I wanted to reach into the story and slap her and everyone involved. Grrrrr… why would anyone think such a scheme would be okay?? Yes, I am being purposefully vague so I don’t ruin it for others. I just can’t believe she would think up something all in the name of ‘making Dylan happy’. Whatever! You don’t do something like that to make your loving husband happy WITHOUT TALKING TO HIM ABOUT IT!!!!! It all felt way to soap operaish for my liking and even worse it took away from Presley and Aaron’s story. I give “Come Home to Me” 2/5 stars. I really love this series and those Amos brothers...sigh This book just irked me too much, mainly Cheyenne. I hope if this scheme of Cheyenne’s is mentioned in future books that it comes back to bite her. I would expect Dylan to react in a normal pissed off way, as he would have a right to. I think if Brenda went that path with this storyline it would add some conflict and intensity to their relationship and make them worth fighting for. I almost wish I hadn’t read this book because like I said, Cheyenne was one of my favorites and then she up and did what she did and it just made me lose all respect for her.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed March 27, 2014
By Ana
Format:Kindle Edition
**I really dislike giving a book 1 star but I think this is the worst of the series. I didn't hate the book but some of the story lines really made it difficult to enjoy the main characters and their story.

The subplot was so CRAZY out there that it took away from the main characters. If you enjoyed When Snow Falls with Dylan & Cheyenne you may not want to read this book. I would have preferred to have Ms Novak kill off Cheyenne than go ahead with this insane story. I kept thinking this can't be happening. There was not even a trace of Cheyenne in this book. This was a completely different person. I wondered if someone else had written this book.

The only person in this story I was hoping would find some happiness was Aaron. I was hoping someone would give him some credit for turning his life around but it never happened.

Presley kept having the same conversation in head throughout the entire book. I know she had a lot to overcome but I was hoping she would have some more confidence in all she had accomplished.

Riley should never have been part of the story to begin with. He has never been a favorite character, for me, to begin with. Also, he never even gave her a second glance all the years she lived in Whiskey Creek. Presley was pretty clear from the beginning she wasn't really interested in more than a friendship.

I'm curious how the events in this story will play out in the next book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly disappointed March 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The business with Cheyenne completely ruined the book for me, turning the whole family into future fodder for a Jerry Springer episode.

I won't be buying the next book in the series. I have no interest in watching the trainwreck unfold as everyone continues to betray poor Dylan in the worst way.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT BRENDA'S BEST March 29, 2014
By BevK
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you've read Brenda's other books in the Whiskey Creek series and loved them, you'll be disappointed in this one. Presley and Aaron have no fire left in them and have the same discussion over and over. Her sister Cheyanne and Dylan weren't recognizable from their personalities. Meddlers. The sub-plots were unpleasant I couldn't wait to read this book and even ordered it early on Kindle so I wouldn't have to wait a minute longer to get it. What a disappointment. If you've read the others in the series you may want to get this one. If you haven't read them, don't bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars So disappointing April 7, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I really liked Take Me Home for Christmas, which was book 5 in the Whiskey Creek series, so when Brenda Novak asked if I would be interested in reviewing Come Home to Me as well, I jumped at the chance. After reading Come Home to Me, however, I kind of wish I could go back in time and decline. I really hate giving bad reviews on books, but I was asked for my honest opinion about this book, so here it goes.

I've never been a fan of the big horrible secret because it gets too messy and is sometimes difficult to forgive, but when done right it can also be a really great plot point and as I've said before I'm a big fan of second chance romances. With the second chance romance and the big secret, I thought there was no way this book could go wrong. Plus, I really liked the secondary characters in Whiskey Creek and was excited to see them all again. Aaron and Presley had some pretty decent chemistry and I enjoyed seeing how they both had changed. The addition of Riley as a possible threat to Aaron and Presley becoming a thing, however, reminded me too much of the Ted/Sophia/Eve triangle and that was a bit of a downer.

Overall, things were going pretty well until the 15% mark. This is when I lost it with this book and if it hadn't been for the fact that I had volunteered to read this book for an honest review, I would have put the book down and not finished it. The subplot that is introduced in this moment of time is by far one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a romance novel. It was straight out of a soap opera and felt horribly out of place, in what until that point was a well written book/series. There is no possible way that what is planned and eventually carried out will be remotely close to a good thing.

More About the Author

Brenda Novak Bio

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak's career as a bestselling author--she caught her day-care provider drugging her children with cough syrup to get them to sleep all day. That was when Brenda decided she needed to quit her job as a loan officer and help make a living from home.

"When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book," Brenda says. But she sold that book, and the rest is history. Her novels have made the New York Times, USA Today and Borders/Waldenbooks bestseller lists and won many awards, including three Rita nominations, the Book Buyer's Best, the Book Seller's Best and the National Reader's Choice Award.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are proud parents of five children--three girls and two boys. When she's not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually working on her annual fund-raiser for diabetes research--an online auction held on her Web site ( every May. Brenda has raised over $1.6 million to date.
