5.0 out of 5 stars Come into my life, September 1, 2002
This review is from: Come Into My Life (Audio CD)
I loved this album from the very first time i heard it. I love the songs lifetime love, all in all and come into my life.I wish that joyce can make more music and revive that beautiful voice. These songs are timeless and will never go stale. The beat is great and the prodution of the music is excellent. It brings back lots of memories when music was good in the late 80's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serious beats and catchy horn riffs to groove to, April 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Come Into My Life (Audio CD)
This album is worth owning for the "Lifetime Love" alone...a song that made everyone run to the floor in the 80's when the bass line kicked in and still has an infectious groove today.

That said, it would be unfair to overlook other gems on the album - the single that started everything, "All And All", which features beat box rhythm courtesy of Mantronix and a killer horn riff, and her lovely slow jam "Come Into My Life" which falls in line nicely with the style of the album. Also included is her fourth single, the lesser known but satisfying "Walkaway".

Rounding things out is her cover of "Love Makes A Woman", a song that proves Joyce can stand her ground even when the beatbox is turned down.

If you are a freestyle fan, a Mantronix fan, an Old School fan or a Joyce Sims fan, I would recommend this album highly. You may laugh at the cheesy cover art, but one you throw the CD on you'll be grooving too hard to remember it.

4.0 out of 5 stars touched by the hand of god (mantronik), March 29, 2002

This review is from: Come Into My Life (Audio CD)
i bought this on viynl when it first came out as i was blown away by the three mantronik produced singles released earlier ie all n all, lifetime love and come into my life.
all i can say is what if? what if joyce and mantronik had still got along and produced more songs together.it's not as if the other tracks are that bad it's just that for me the magic of the singles was the marriage of mantronik's electro tinged technical trickery to a latin sound and female soul voice.i can vividly remember seeing and hearing all n all on top of the pops here in the u.k. and knowing that although mantronik had vered away from hip hop the boy had done good, and then some!
if you don't have all three singles buy it,if not check out warlock to see if the singles have a re-release with all the ill dub and edit style based mixes on them.
some of mantronik's later r n b productions have worked well ie with wondress and to a latter extent jade trini but joyce's high pitched rather than earthy latin hip hop masterpieces remain the highlight for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest grooves from the 1980s, February 27, 2007
By

If this album contained only one song, "Come Into My Life", it would still be a classic. In fact, this song is so good, it really puts the rest of the album into the shade. "All and all" is a close second, however. Curtis Mantronik produced "Come Into My Life", "Lifetime Love", "A Change In You" and co-produced and mixed "All And All".

The song, "Come Into My Life" features a very sweet high A flat (the A one ledge line above the treble stave) near the start of song. Joyce Sims sustains it over several bars and sings it without force or drama. We could classify Ms Sims as a soprano.

There is a certain sense of Hip Hop in the drum patterns on this album. Of course, many will know that at the same time this album was released, Mantronik was involved in Mantronix, one of the most musically progressive and interesting Hip Hop outfits in the 1980s.

I can listen to "Come Into My Life" over and over and I think I will always love the title song. It is as great as the greatest slow jams of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, my other favourite producers of this period.

The album was released twenty years ago on the very interesting Sleeping Bag label in 1987.

Such a fun, moody mix of dance, R & B, and pop from the eighties, which still holds up well today. A multi-talented performer and songwriter. A must own for dance collecters, and I highly reccommend it for everyone else too! I'd love to hear something new from Joyce!

4.0 out of 5 stars wherefore art thou?, September 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Come Into My Life (Audio CD)
Come Into My Life was a smash in the UK, and this album was a hit, but what happened to you, Joyce? It's been more than 10 years with nary a whisper. This album is dated, but if you were around when it was released it will unleash a flood of memories. Still good stuff, and I'm sorry the stupid record companies haven't recognised Joyce's talent and pushed her further.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new and better type of singer-songwriter, April 16, 2001
This review is from: Come Into My Life (Audio CD)
The old cliché of the female singer-songwriter is the girl with a guitar. In this case, however, we have the girl with a drum machine, and the results are far superior. Even though there is one cover song, the album is an ample showcase for Sims's songwriting talent. Sims has an incredible knack for beautiful melodies superimposed with beats. The beats were arranged by the genius producer Kurtis Mantronik, who worked on most of the album's tracks. Over twenty years have passed since this album's initial release, and it still holds up today. Sims released another album, but sadly, it remains out-of-print. Unfortunately, Warlock Records, which purchased the Fresh and Sleeping Bag Records catalog when it ceased operations (this was one of the releases), had the nerve not to 20-bit digitally remaster or HDCD-encode this album. If you like Sheryl Crow, Laura Nyro, Meredith Brooks, or Suzanne Vega (and countless others), this is much nicer--you will not be disappointed.

I bought this CD for the track "Come Into My Life" which has always been a favorite of mine. I didn't expect that the rest of the CD would be as good as it is! I am very happy with this purchase!

"All & All' was the Jam!!!! Joyce came out with a unique voice and sounded like no other! and then she released 'Come Into My Life' one of my favorite songs! This was a great debut record from Joyce! It has that great 80's dance style..this cd also contains Joyce's strong cover of 'Love Makes A Woman'(Barbara Acklin, Phoebe Snow) & the big hit 'Lifetime Love', Joyce released a single back 1995 but we haven't got a full length CD since 1989's 'All About Love', Joyce make another CD!
