Come And Knock On Our Door RULES,

This review is from: Come and Knock on Our Door: A Hers and Hers and His Guide to "Three's Company" (Paperback)
OK, maybe my opinion is biased because: I am a HUGE Three's Company fan, also a big Suzanne Somers fan and I luv just about all sitcoms from the 70's and 80's and luv books about TV shows in general. But I have to admit that COME AND KNOCK ON OUR DOOR was the very best book I ever read about any TV show. I felt like I was on the set of THREE'S COMPANY. The author (lemme just take this time to say that Chris Mann is a genius) captured every element of the show: from the early days, to The Ropers, to the rise and fall of Chrissy, then comes Chrissy's cousin, then Teri and finally Three's A Crowd! This book even has a complete guide at the back of the book with a detailed listing of every show that even includes the dates that the shows were broadcast. Also includes tons of exclusive pictures of the cast and interviews with just about everyone who was on the show, even Lana! There is also a very touching tribute to Mrs. Roper and the book includes one of her last interviews. It also has one of Mr. Roper's last interviews too! So if you love THREE'S COMPANY like I do then you gotta read this book because it is just the best. And even if you don't love THREE'S COMPANY you have to read the book because you will become a fan once you read it! Also, if you want even more info on THREE'S COMPANY then I strongly recommend the book AFTER THE FALL by Suzanne Sommers.

This review is from: Come and Knock on Our Door: A Hers and Hers and His Guide to "Three's Company" (Paperback)
This is a great take on one of the funniest shows of the 70s and early 80s. You can look at "Three's Company" and consider it to be the first widely acclaimed and loved comedy that was "all about nothing." That's one of the reasons why this show (and Seinfeld) were so popular. Great writing, characters, and actors, that allow a comedic escape from the mundane routine and sincerity of our daily lives. All episodes of TC, "Three's a Crowd" and "The Roper's" are listed in the book. Providing biographies of the actors and actresses, author Chris Mann goes on to uncover the behind the scenes history of the many aspects of Jack, Janet & Chrissy. The disagreement and fall out with the producers of the show and Suzanne Somers is covered without taking sides. The politics and animosity. The producers did engage in a legalistic smear campaign against Somers and tried to degrade and humiliate her as much as possible before giving her the axe. TC was not to be same again without here. Her departure had an effect on the show and Somers' 2 replacements, Jennille Harrison and Priscilla Barnes (the latter refused to be interviewed for the book) are also described in this book. Like all television sit-coms that run a long time it becomes difficult for the writers to stay fresh, and as the show came to an end after 8 seasons, the producers were already planning a spin-off off of "Three's Company." Instead of being forthright and honest to the cast about the killing of the show and the spinoff with Jack Tripper ("Three's a Crowd" that bombed immediately), the producers and John Ritter were deceptive and crafty. Joyce DeWitt (among others) discusses bad relations with the producers involving intimidation, arrogance, and treatment so inconsiderate she never did return to television. I love the show but sure don't like the industry from which it comes. "Talk about hers and hers and his, Three's Company too."

John Ritter was a comic genius,
By A Customer
This review is from: Come and Knock on Our Door: A Hers and Hers and His Guide to "Three's Company" (Paperback)
This book proves three things:1... Suzanne Somers is one of the biggest liars on this planet. 2... Joyce DeWitt loves pain, and loves to relive pain, and loves to share her pain with you as she's reliving it. 3... John Ritter was one of the greatest comedic talents in TV history, and possessed a fiercely strong sense of humor which obviously helped him survive the behind-the-scene madness that caused Suzanne and Joyce to lose what few marbles they started out with. Thanks for sharing, Chris Mann! You've rocked MY world!

This is SUCH a great book for anyone that is interested in Threes Company like I am. I highly reccommend this book. It has GREAT pictures, pictures you don't see anywhere else. Fashon Focuses, Guest Star Memories, Q&A, Bloopers, The Stars On Their Characters, and even the lyrics to the theme song! It's not really up to date but it's the best Threes Company book I have ever read. GET THIS BOOK!

This review is from: Come and Knock on Our Door: A Hers and Hers and His Guide to "Three's Company" (Paperback)
Three's Company has always been one of my favorite shows, but alas, at first I thought of it as a show that wasn't of much substance, but then I realized that it had substance. It is a refreshing show, but that doesn't mean there is nothing to it. Currently on the station I watch it, it is right after an hour of a more intense show, but this book conveys not only the work it took, but the memories of all of the actors. It goes in depth about what really happened with Suzanne Somers, and it gives all view points, without taking sides. It blends Suzanne Somers and Joyce DeWitts interviews as if they were talking face to face. It holds every actor and person involved with the show at the same level of appreciation and regard, without giving any personal insight, allowing the reader to decide for his or herself. The book also tells the reason of why Jenilee Harrison was edged off the show, it includes interviews with all of the leading cast members, and pictures galore.Mr. Mann did a fabulous job putting 8 years of one of the best sitcoms ever, in a mere 312 pages, including a memorial for Audra Lindley, episode guides for Three's Company, The ROPERS and Three's A crowd.

Seems Like "Three's A Crowd",
This review is from: Come and Knock on Our Door: A Hers and Hers and His Guide to "Three's Company" (Paperback)
This book was very interesting, detailing in full the behind-the-scenes conflicts, including the much ballyhooed incident with Suzanne Somers. But what I find most extraordinary is that the author gets EVERYONES side on this one...he doesn't take sides, just presents both arguements and lets the readers decide who was right or wrong. There is an episode guide at the end, which is an added plus, but what I enjoyed was that Chris Mann spent his time discussing the cast and the problems they were facing, not describing in detail the episodes we have all seen many times. "Three's Company" is still an entertaining show, but I can watch it anytime...however, it's not often I can read about what happened that viewers couldn't see. Chris Mann did a great job of giving the public the information they wanted, and I must give him credit for gaining the cooperation of the entire cast, which seems unheard of these days.

The Best Sitcom Ever Created on TV,

Anyone who has watched Three's Company and other 70s and 80s sitcoms would love this book. Author Chris Mann is a Three's Company fan like many of us but he went few steps ahead to do the interview with cast and crew and did research to put it all in the form of a book. He was also interviewed on cable network E! when they made their own two hour show on this sitcom. It is sad that there were problems between the cast members, but I will not blame that on anyone; but I feel sad for Suzanne Somers, because, John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt distanced from Suzanne for an awfully long number of years. It is good to know that John Ritter reconciled with Suzanne few years before his unfortunate and sad death. Old wounds die hard and this very true when Suzanne Somers refused to reconcile with Joyce couple of years ago when Suzanne detected symptoms of breast cancer. Now John Ritter, Norman fell and Audra Lindley have gone and many actors who appeared on this sitcom have become great actors in Hollywood and TV. It is wonderful to read this book and cherish the memories and the great time many of us had watching and enjoying this show week after week. Thanks for the book Chris Mann.

Meet me at the Regal Beagle!,
This review is from: Come and Knock on Our Door: A Hers and Hers and His Guide to "Three's Company" (Paperback)
Hello Three's Company enthusiasts,This book is the only one that I know of about this beloved 70s and 80s sitcom, and it brings back all the memories! It's filled with pictures that I've never seen before, plus episode guides to not only Three's Company, but also Three's a Crowd and The Ropers! The only problem is that Priscilla Barnes (Terri) did not participate in the creation of this book, and she was always my favorite roommate! But, get this book and enjoy it anyway!

Finally the truth about the greatest sitcom ever !,
By Sylvain Lavallee (Montreal, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come and Knock on Our Door: A Hers and Hers and His Guide to "Three's Company" (Paperback)
I loved the book ! I learned so many things while reading. I didn't know there were three pilots. I found, however, a bit confusing the explanations of the writers, producers of the show. Too many persons involved were cited. I was getting dizzy just trying to follow the roles of each persons involve in the writing, the production, etc. I was surprised to know the cast of the first two pilots. Chris Mann said he grew up watching Three's Company,I found a bit strange that a little five year old boy is sitting in front of the television screen to watch a sitcom at 9:30 pm in the middle of the week ! I was glad to find out what happen to the casts of the show and what they did after Three's Company. The deaths of Audra Lindley, and later, of Norman Fell are a huge loss to all Three's Company fans. A great book about the greatest sitcom ever aired on television. Hopefully it's coming on video and dvd !

Chris Mann did a fantastic job on this book! I entered this reading experience expecting a superficial offering of one-sided stories about the tirals and tribulations of this pop culture phenomenon known as "Three's Company". I exited feeling satisfied at the invested hours I spent in reading this book.Chris has managed to tell the backstage story in a non-biased manner but has decided to let the stars tell their own sides, ensuring their integrity and the integrity of the book in the process. This book is anything but a tabloid. It tells the stories from those who experienced it. No commentaries are made. No opinions are offered. Just the facts. Includes a great episode guide that also cover the spin-offs "The Ropers" and "Three's a Crowd." |
