Most Helpful Customer Reviews

It was early December and the year was maybe 2003. I was entering Santa Cruz Roasting Company in Downtown Santa Cruz California, as a shortcut to the parking area in back. I had no intention of stopping for coffee or anything else. But almost immediately I heard a very different kind Christmas music playing on their sound system. It was not at all the big production, amp'd up sound that generally typifies Christmas music. This was low-key but sort of jazzy, almost melancholy in it's simple presentation of very classic Christmas hymns. It had such an impact on me that I walked very slowly through the Roasting Company to enjoy the music. And then I actually turned around when I got to the parking area, and went back inside to try to find out who the artist was.

I found a very helpful clerk who searched through the stacks of empty CD cases by their CD player, and finally found one with a hand-written label that said Riki Michele on it. With that information as a starting point, I went home and started doing internet searches trying to find this CD so I could buy it - with no luck at all after maybe 30 minutes of searching.

Fast forward about 2 years to another Christmas season. I STILL remembered how wonderfully different that Christmas music was, so I renewed my internet searching, and actually found some initial hits for Riki Michele. But those pages gave no hope for being able to buy my own copy of her CD as they all spoke of her performing in the past tense. Being persistent, I kept at it, and found a review of Riki on a website called Tollbooth. As a "shot in the dark," I emailed them asking if they had any idea how to find a copy of the album to buy.

For anyone who believes Jesus is the reason for the season, this is one of the best Christmas CD's you can buy. Although I bought the CD when I was a born again Christian and loved it then, I still enjoy the CD in spite of having become a borderline atheist.
