You've got to get this album. So exciting and enjoyable!!,

In this album he did more of his big band style stuff and it was just such a joy to listen to. It just makes you excited about life and that is definately one of the signs of good music. Harry is a genius as we fans already know and this just takes it to even greater heights. Some people complain about his funk stuff and such because they don't understand that it's all a part of what Harry grew up with -- it's all a part of New Orleans and the feel of what Harry is all about. So I don't say thank goodness he came back to the more big bandish, swing style -- but instead I say thank goodness that he came out with another CD so soon after the last one(I was starting to get major withdrawals). Harry always comes through for his fans and that is something that doesn't happen very often -- or so it seems -- in the music world. He's consistently amazing and never dissapointing. His music is always filled with life and this CD is no exception. THANKS HARRY!!

Great Mix of Old and New,
By
This review is from: Come By Me (Audio CD)
Harry Connick Jr.'s "Come By Me" is a fabulous mix of fresh arrangements on beloved standards and refreshingly beautiful new and original songs. He uses both Orchestra and a return to the Big Band style for some wonderful variety. The more I played it, the more I loved it.
The songs he has written including "Nowhere With Love" and "Come By Me", combined with his smooth and familiar vocal tones, and the wonderful sounds of the very talented musicians, seem to have a perfect fit with songs we already love. He does it his way with such greats as Cole Porter's "Love For Sale", the soft shoe sound of Irving Berlin's "There's No Business Like Show Business" and his touching rendition of the sentimental "Danny Boy". It's an absolute treat to hear Johnny Mercer's and Henry Mancini's "Charade" and Arthur Hamilton's "Cry Me A River" revived so wonderfully for a new generation to aprreciate. If you think they just don't make em like they used to, Harry's own "A Moment With Me" should make you happy. He puts his own heart and soul into his originals, and the fine intsrumental solos complete the package. I love the mix and the variety(see buying info for complete list of songs) on this album. Romantic, dreamy, sentimental and nostalgic. There are 13 tracks in all that run a nice hour. The CD is a very good quality. A fold out pamphlet is enclosed with some production notes and the words to all the songs. For Romancing and dancing, for Harry fans and lovers of the old standards(or lovers in general)...it's "best of the bill"..enjoy...Laurie also recommended: Nothing But the Best -- USPS Special Edition (includes first day cover of Sinatra stamp and rare bonus track) Love Songs

I haven't been a harry connick jr fan until now. i just bought this cd b/c of a friend's comments, and I absolutly love it. I like that he mixes the songs with those he wrote and old classics as well, like "change partners" and others. He sings them nice and slow, and has such a fantastic voice. But, my favorites on here are "Nowhere with love" and "Come by me." They're really catchy tunes. And the big band sound is what makes it great jazz. I'm delighted to say this made me a fan of his! It's smooth and relaxing, I really recommend this! :)

Harry Connick, Jr is by far one of the most original persons I have ever heard. This cd is great. Not as fast as his earlier releases, but that's no problem. Come By Me, Danny Boy, Cry Me a River and Time After Time are some of the best tracks on the cd. please buy it! come BUY me! (sorry, that was bad)

The Big Band Is Back!,

This CD is the best Harry has to offer, SO FAR. His recordings of old standard tunes are always "top notch". However, his original tunes, Nowhere With Love and the title track, Come By Me, should be classified as new standards. Harry is young and talented. The sky is the limit for him and I know 'the best is yet to come'!

Harry''s Back With Big Band Sizzlin' Swing!,

I'm so happy Harry Connick Jr. went back to his Big Band sound. I hope this CD is the start of some more good arrangements on his future CD's. My favorites are "Charade" and a clever, and sexy arrangement of "Change Partners". I like how he incorporates and mixes his original songs with some of the old classics. I think he's on the right track. Linda Eder's CD's always contain a lot of her husband's material (Frank Wildhorn), and most recently I've found a similar style and combination with, "Silver Screen Serenades" from a new 'Big Band/Cabaret' artist I'm hooked on, Michael Poss. I would love to see all three of these talented singers perform on one stage, belting out some of their hip, Big Band songs! Good job Harry!

The Boardroom Was Looking Empty..Thanks Harry,

Popular music is littered with fads and reworks and technical wizzardry that hides the true brillance and melody of great music. The great male voice delivering a great lyric with the timeless*umph and zing* of a big band or orchestra has been sadly missing throughout the 90s..until NOW!!! ..prepare to be entertained with *Come By Me*.What is there not to like on here? This is a reunion recording between Harry and the Band, not since his ,I think the 1981 release ,has he sounded this way.I liked Harry on the *She* CD of some years ago, that cajun New Orleans sound with the delta funk..and I must say that I am impressed with his *big band* sound..no one does it quite like our Harry!!! The song selection is first class and the delivery exquiste, with Harry Connick originals spread evenly with the songs of Irving Berlin,Cole Porter,Sammy Cahn,Arthur Hamilton, and the incomparable Mercer and Mancini. Each gets the Harry Connick *touch* which hasnt been delivered for too long a time for my liking.I would recommend that you savour the timeless and magical renditions of *Charade* and *Love For Sale*and *Easy To Love*,sounds written in the golden era of songwriting and lovingly reproduced here. The cheekiness of Connick can be seen in his renditions of *A Moment With Me* and *Come By Me*,and that delevoping style that has set Harry apart over the years, is evident throughout this recording. If you like your lyrics with romance, cleverness and feeling ,you will love this set. The Band and orchestra sound marvellous, they individually shine on some tracks and then are brilliant together on others. The sound of the band in full swing is a delight that is sadly missed in modern music.Harry conducts arranges and writes ,sings and croons his way through this tour de force. The CD is expertly produced and arranged and engineered, and accolades should be given to both,Tracey Freeman and Gregg Rubin,a complimentary performance. Since the passing of Dean Martin ,Frank Sinarta and others the Boardroom has been decidedly quiet, only the aging Tony Bennett seems to fill that void....but ladies and gentlemen, welcome Harry Connick Jr back on deck and ready to swing..there is a place at the top of the table for you Harry!!!Depending on your mood,4 1/2 stars but I can live with a rating of 5 stars..It is a delight.

Better then other recent CD's by velvet voiced crooner...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Come By Me (Audio CD)
Most of his CD's I've found a bit disapointing, considering he has a voice so irresistable. We've recently lost Sinatra and Torme, after Bennett's gone all we'll have left to hold the tradition of crooner are Connick(I don't count talentless hacks like Michael Feinstein or John Parezzeli). It would be so nice if he would just do one CD with a swingin' jazz trio or quartet and sing jazz standards, no originals, no wierd dead slow arrangements just straigt ahaed jazz. Oh well maybe someday. Until this we have the okay Harry Met Sally and this CD of half standards and half origianl sometimes played at sleepy tempos. Though I'll give him credit for trying to be innovative.

Harry Connick Jr.'s Back Again!,
By Martin 13 (Slovenia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come By Me (Audio CD)
After few not very good albums (Whisper Your Name, She and Star Turtle) here it is swingin' Harry Connick! Harry Connick Jr. is probably the first man who brought Swing back on top. Before Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Indigo Swing... He's great! On this album, there are only five originals (Nowhere With Love, Come by Me, Easy for You to Say, Next Door Blues [instrumental] and A Moment With Me. Big Band is backing him and arrangements are great!

Connick is Back in the Swing of Things,
By Justin Utley (Murray, Utah USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come By Me (Audio CD)
Just when you thought he's stuck in funk forever, Harry Connick Jr takes a step back, and a nice step forward with his big band. "Come By Me", the album's title track, has a very contagious beat, beginning with a vamping piano, and then splashing with full swing sound. This is sure to get your foot tapping. Also included in this big band come-back is a version of the ageless "No Business Like Show Business", revealing Connick's drive for the spotlight. A long awaited release for many, this earns an anticipated 5 stars for it's appeal to Connick fans, new and old alike.
