Book Description

Come My Beloved: Inspiring Stories of Catholic Courtship is a celebration of faith and enduring love. This compilation contains 12 courtship/dating stories which will inspire, captivate and entertain readers. Some of the stories include: a widow with eight children meets a widower with six children; a man asks his live-in girlfriend "what if we stopped having sex," and is greeted with tears of joy; an atheist falls in love with her Catholic Prince Charming; a woman prays to God for a husband and years later finds herself falling in love with a seminarian; a sailor prays a novena to marry the right girl. What these and all the stories illustrate is that God is the ideal matchmaker.

Review

Come My Beloved: Inspiring Stories of Catholic Courtship is a Song of Songs, a book of praise, a treasure-house of faith and romance par excellence! I dare you to try and put it down once you open its grace-filled, enchanting pages. For me, reading this book was a lot like falling in love! The presence of God in the lives of the contributors came through so powerfully to me that as I read the stories, I found myself stopping from time to time to pray and give glory to God. This truly beautiful collection of Catholic courtship stories is a must-read for anyone discerning a vocation, especially the call to marriage; and for those courting, engaged, already married, or widowed. What a great gift to Holy Mother Church, and a powerful witness that God does make marriages in heaven. --Lisa Mladinich, author, "Be An Amazing Catechist: Inspire the Faith of Children, Founder, Amazing Catechists

Whether you're courting, engaged to be married, newlyweds, or celebrating your jubilee years together, this terrific resource offers something for anyone looking to grow closer to God and to one another in a loving relationship. --Lisa Hendey, author, "The Handbook for Catholic Moms" Founder and editor, Catholic Mom

Fabulous book that I can't wait to recommend to all my single and married friends. You truly created a gift for this generation! --Dawn Marie Roeder, author "It Doesn't End Here"

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Love Stories! July 7, 2011
Format:Paperback
It is inspiring to be reminded of the myriad of ways that God works in our lives! Just as no two people are exactly alike, nor are any two couples or their love stories. This compilation of catholic courtship stories reminds us of some essential life-giving truths: that God is involved intimately in each of our lives; he desires our happiness and holiness; he works in both ordinary and extraordinary ways; and that all love is a reflection of His, especially spousal love. "Come My Beloved: Inspiring Stories of Catholic Courtship" will entertain and uplift you while potentially shedding light on how God may be moving in your own heart and relationship. A very easy, pleasant, and highly recommended read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It! June 13, 2011
Format:Paperback
Whether you're courting, engaged to be married, newlyweds, or celebrating your jubilee years together, this terrific resource offers something for anyone looking to grow closer to God and to one another in a loving relationship. I loved each of the diverse stories in this book, which show a variety of "real life" couples living out their vocation to marriages in different circumstances. Having just celebrated my 25th anniversary, this book reminds me of the importance of keeping Christ at the center of our relationship. Thanks to all who shared their stories and to the editors for creating a great resource for our families!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Stories of Enduring Love August 7, 2011
Format:Paperback
Come My Beloved is a beautiful collection of twelve true inspiring stories of Catholic courtship. Ellen Gable Hrkach and Kathy Cassanto have interviewed married couples of all ages, from a variety of locales and backgrounds, and asked both the husband and wife to recount the details of their courtship. The stories, presented from both the male and the female perspective, are told in an intimate, conversational style, which easily arouse the reader's interest and make it a quick, interesting read. What I found most appealing was that each story was very unique, and no two stories were alike. Each has its own theme, its own storyline, and its own unique characters.

While the stories presented are romantic in nature, the challenges each couple face and deal with are also discussed, which adds to the excitement of each story. The struggles vary. There is one story in which the woman is totally uninterested in the man initially, but his persistence pays off. Another story depicts the obstacles a previously married couple faces. Yet another focuses on the difficulties of a long-distance relationship.

Come My Beloved captured my heart, as it depicts stories of enduring love, based on Catholic teaching and Catholic values. Each couple honestly shares their love for God and how their relationship is based on that love. Each of the stories is faith-building, uplifting, inspirational, humorous, romantic, and hopeful. Each one left me with a sense of peace, joy, and hopefulness about the vocation of Catholic marriage.

I believe Come My Beloved is a valuable treasure for those who are discerning the vocation of marriage and it is uplifting reading for all those who enjoy a good love story.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading these stories of how people met their spouses. I read this while traveling with my daughter, and many times, I laughed out loud in the airport (or dried a tear), and paused in reading to share something with my daughter. It was also wonderful to see how much influence faith had these couples' relationships--and how the relationship often influenced the faith of one or the other. If you want to read about real romance, this is the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everybody Loves a Love Story June 13, 2011
Format:Paperback
If everybody loves a love story, how much would you enjoy twelve of them? "Come My Beloved" is a collection of tickle-your-funny-bone, curl-your-toes, and warm-your-heart stories of twelve deeply in love married couples. The uniting themes are their great love for each other and their love for Christ in His Church. Otherwise, the tales are as diverse and as entertaining as the people who wrote them...from newlyweds, to retreads, to old veterans. When I was sent an early copy of this book, I couldn't wait to read it; so I left work for lunch, parked my car under a shade tree, and devoured "Come My Beloved" along with my ham and cheese crackers. I'll have to admit, there were times when I sheepishly looked around to see if anyone had caught me laughing out loud...all alone in the car...by myself...or had noticed that the pollen made my eyes water more than usual (I'm a guy...we don't tear-up...right?). Not many books can wring that range of reactions out of me...but this one did. I especially enjoyed the "before and after" pictures that added flesh, bones, and smiles to the stories. For a refreshing, unique, and uplifting glimpse at what love really looks like, I couldn't recommend anything better.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Love Can Still be Found February 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Twenty-something women in our culture of hook-ups and broken hearts, often think that they have to settle for a string of meaningless relationships rather than a life-long love. So said a journalist from the New York Times in a recent editorial. Romance is only fantasy you indulge in, reality is being used and discarded, they maintain.

"Come, My Beloved" stands in direct opposition to this cynical viewpoint; for in it, Catholic couples in varied walks of life, and age groups, found true love against the odds. These stories will reawaken your faith that with prayerful trust in God's plan for your vocation, and the grace of the sacraments, you can find a mate who loves you for yourself, and wants to help you to grow closer to God as you grow in love for one another. Love isn't for the perfect, just the hopeful. Enjoy this book and the resurgence of hope it will awaken in your heart as you hear the words of the "Song of Songs" resonate in your own heart.
Recommended for romantics of all ages.
