Music to go on a picnic to, or drive around to on a sunny day with someone you like a lot. Cub makes me feel cheery. . and wistfull. It's kind of like eating really good candy.

The way music should be,

In my opinion this is not Cub's best work. The out of print Betty Cola is the best one, but if you can't find it, please please please buy this.Twee and sweet, Cub embody everything youth and music should be. Pure pop. Poorly recorded brilliant tunes. Songs that make you smile. Songs that prove anyone can pick up a guitar and join a band... and probably should. Production values, mastering your guitar, worrying about becoming famous, and ego destroy the pure art that lies beneath. Pick up this album to hear the fun that everyone should have while being in a band. I fear they will disappear into history without getting the proper credit. Lisa and the gang were great artists and wonderful people. I had a chance to talk to the singer a few weeks after they broke up. I told her how sorry I was that they were gone and I hope to hear some of her stuff in the future. She threw her arms around me and said "Thank you". That was the last I heard of her or her beautiful band Cub. Don't let them die.

The Best Cub Album,
By Lucius Kwok (Saint Davids, PA United States) - See all my reviews

This is my favorite Cub album. While the production isn't stellar (everything sounds muffled), this album has some of their best songs. "New York City" is a great song which was later covered by They Might Be Giants. Some other I like are "Everything's Geometry," "Tomorrow Go Away," and "I'm your angel." Their cover of the Go-Go's "Vacation" works really well. I would compare Cub to Tiger Trap, but not as sugary, or to Sleater-Kinney without the punk. |
