5.0 out of 5 stars Real Rockin' Sound Scape
This album was a densely layered, intricate, album of some of Twisted's most haunting music.

Dee's vocals resonated, the guitars took turns adding layers of sound, and the bass and guitars pounded away.

This was an album to keep your attention...especially "King of the Fools."

"Leader of the Pack" will make you laugh if you remember the 50s...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good tracks overshadowed by a few campy ones!, September 17, 2002

This album was the follow up to the smash "Stay Hungry" and unfortunately the campy songs like "Leader of the Pack" and "Be Cruel to your School" overshadowed some of the really good ones like "Kill or Be Killed", "I Believe in You", and "King of the Fools". This album was a commercial bomb at the time it was released and was the death knell for Twisted Sister which was a shame.

All in all, I'd say that I enjoyed this album, but not as much as the other Twisted Sister releases and I'm glad to be able to buy it in CD.

If you are sick of the 90's death growl and (c)rap metal that just won't go away and want to hear some solid metal with real singing, check out this album, just skip over the cover tunes!

This album will probably forever be known as the one that killed Twisted Sister's career. Looking back, it's not hard to see why fans furiously rejected it. Before this album, Dee and the band seemed rather adept at mixing menace with just enough campiness to make things fun. On this particular album, however, they went over the top and (especially on the ill-advised cover of "Leader Of The Pack") overdosed on goofy humor. A shame, because they got their best and toughest production job yet from Dieter Dierks, who's armor-plated work with The Scorpions and Accept won him much acclain. Listening to this CD again after so many years, tunes like "Come Out And Play," "You Want What We Got" and "Kill Or Be Killed" stand up as fun anthems and some of the group's best. ..., even "Be Cruel To Your Skewl" elicits some memorable chuckles.

One of those CDs that didn't seem like much at the time, but kinda grows on you years later.

This is one of the best albums i have ever heard. The video clips that go with it are brilliant, and to me, show Twisted Sister are one of the best bands ever created.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than you think, February 3, 2004
This review is from: Come Out & Play (Audio CD)
...compared to the tracks that make up the horrible sounding LOVE IS FOR SUCKERS, this can easily be considered a classic. Maybe not in the vein of STAY HUNGRY but it has some really great songs and they remind you of why 80s metal is so damn good.

A huge and romping/roaring title track gives you a welcome blast into this album, ("Twisted Sister, come out and play") Dee Snider sneers and cries, and then eventually gets his wish as the band comes blasting in full on force.

The bulk of the material on this CD are rockers with great melodic choruses, a recipe for some good metal tunes. The slow slow as snail's pace ballad "I Believe In You" is a good track, but I really don't think Snider is good at pulling off ballads, his voice is a little too rough for it. Now, when are talking about "King of Fools" then that's a different story, he does this well. The band's backing vocals also make it very enjoyable and irresistable. Actually, the band turns in quite a few good backings on this release, proving each one of the sisters can get the vocal job done, at least to some extent.

There are a number of complaints about "Leader of The Pack". I think it's a good track but not single good. By that I mean it isnt strong enough to be a single..."I Believe in Rock N' Roll", "You Want What We Got" and "Looking Out for Number #1" should have been the top picks. But it doesn't matter, anyway you look at it these tracks just make this CD all the more better. I'm not sure if "Leader" is supposed to be a ballad or not, it kind of sounds that way, it is kind of catchy but it really only centers around a cheap love gone horribly wrong then uses a bad accident scenario that would have best been left to another band. And the video is even worse. This isn't one of the highlights on the album but you should know that there is some very good material on this CD. I would consider it TS's last good album. But by all means avoid "Be Chrool To Your Scuel" and "Out on the Streets", although "Streets" is better if you had to choose. And why "Be Chrool" made it onto the BIG HITS/NASTY CUTS album I will never know or understand. Maybe because it had Alice Cooper on it. But even he can't save this lame track.

Yes there are some real campy barn-buster songs on this album, but alot of Twisted Sister's material is like that anyway. So look past all that, you see another classic 80s album that got overlooked and underappreciated..until now. This CD has its rockers, it has it's decent ballad and it's pretty much filled to the brim with good hooks, but it is seriously lacking in the lyrical department. But you aren't buying this album to become an Einstien. You are buying this album because you wanna rock! 9/11

5.0 out of 5 stars An Underlooked Album, October 31, 2009
This review is from: Come Out & Play (Audio CD)
Come Out And Play was the follow up to the Multi-Platinum Smash Stay Hungry from Twisted Sister.Unfortunately, the follow up didnt live up to expectations.Personally i love the Album and i feel it is a batch of really good songs. Most people were turned off by the Lead Single "Leader Of The Pack" which was a remake of the 60's hit song by an all girl group. But if they had listened to the Entire Album with smashing tracks like "Come out and Play" and "You Want What We Got" they would realize this is one that delivers the goods."The Fire Still Burns" is still a Really Heavy Track and a Fan Favorite played at most of their gigs.If you like TS and Dee Snider give it a shot its worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD if you give it a chance, April 6, 2009

Here is the major problem with this CD...they made 2 very cheesey unfunny video's that made Twisted Sister look very uncool. If they made a cool concert type video for the title track, lets just say, I think this album would have exploded. I am a Twisted fan, and it took me forever to give this CD a try, because I hated the 2 singles they released...but after listening, this is a really good CD. And even if you take away the horrible video's, Be Cruel to your Skewl and Leader of the Pack arent bad songs. Leader of the Pack, along with a ton of other songs, they covered in concert for a very long time, and they thought it was a way to give back to their long time devoted fans. Honestly, they should have picked a different song...if they wanted to release it as the first single. If this was just a song at the end of the CD, it would have been great. But because of the way it was handled, it made them look very uncool at the time. Too bad, for a band that really knows how to rock hard...

I am telling you give this cd a try...there are really good songs on here...the title track alone may be my favorite twisted sog in their catalouge!!

I have all of Twisted sisters albums and obviously opinions are like... Stay Hungry has their 2 most recognisable tunes but this is even still more consistently anthemic which is what most people love about this band. My personal belief on why it didn't carry on where Stay Hungry left off is down to a few reason. I don't believe it was a backlash from radio stations in retaliation to Dee's defiance toward the PMRC but more a very poor choice of singles to promote the album. The tracks they chose, "be cruel to your school" and "leader of the pack" are the worst tracks on the album! Elsewhere the title track is as rollicking a metal song as you would here anywhere. You can hear what Dee means when he said he wanted this band to by a hybrid of ACDC and Judas Priest. And there are plenty of great rock & roll chanting anthems like "believe in rock n roll", "I know what you want" etc. For me the stand out tune on this cd is "out on the streets". Everything about it is beautifully constructed and it is a song that Dee should be forever proud for writing. It has an epic build up with a great, melodic chorus. When I first got this release it had Stay hungry on one side and Come out and play on the other. More often than not I would keep fast forwarding Stay Hungry to re-listen to this. Oh yeah. Dieter Dieks (spelling?) who many a rock fan would be familiar with for producing classic Scorpions has given this album an excellent shine and crunch! Regardless of the ordinary singles this album should not have been the failure that it unfortunately was. They're back, but is it too late?
