5.0 out of 5 stars Come on Over and give it a listen November 22, 2011

Very nicely done master. The album never sounded better. You will smile the moment Jolene bursts out of your speakers. Even though this is an SACD there is no surround mix which would have been fun. Still, it's all about the sound here and this disc delivers. The packaging is a little unusual but sturdy. I hope more of her albums, especially the soundtrack to Xanadu, get the SACD treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, great SACD October 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I received my SACD version of COME ON OVER this week -- it's a nice addition to my Olivia Newton-John collection, although not necessarily an important addition.

COME ON OVER is one of my favorite Olivia albums from the 1970s. Songs like "Jolene," "Who Are You Now," "The Long and Winding Road," and especially "Come On Over" are among the best she ever recorded. I play this album much more than I play her other mid-1970s releases, so I believe it was a great candidate for SACD release.

As for the SACD... it sounds great. But, so did the "digitally remastered" CD edition back in 1998. So does the SHM-CD edition that came out in 2010. There really isn't THAT much difference between the different versions; they are all excellently mastered. The SACD contains only the stereo version of the album -- no 5.1-channel mix here -- so there really isn't anything unique about the SACD. It is absolutely flawless-sounding, I'll grant that, but I honestly don't hear that big a difference between this and the standard CD editions.

If you're a true audiophile and have the proper equipment for playing SACDs, this might be a worthwhile purchase for you, but I'd recommend to the average music consumer that you just stick with the standard CD versions of the album. NOTE: This SACD does not contain the two bonus tracks that were added to the SHM-CD release in 2010. Another reason for staying with the CD version.)
