Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Why learn new tricks when you can still get big laughs milking the old ones? Everyone's favorite foul-mouthed canine puppet simply takes the same material he's been using since Don Rickles was in short pants, and stretches it over a series of musical pastiches, from calypso ("Underage Bichon") to, um, Yiddish musical theater ("My Mama"). With contributions from Adam Sandler, Conan O'Brien, Jack Black, and SNL vets Maya Rudolph and Horatio Sanz, this disc features more guests than a Jerry Lewis telethon (alas, no Eminem--though he gets name-checked on the hip-hop jam "I Keed"). The Jerky Boys-style crank calls quickly wear thin, and the bonus DVD is a hodgepodge of static performance footage of the best bits on the CD, plus some agonizing filler (who invited that Dell computer dork?), but on the strength of the hilarious songs alone, Come Poop With Me is nothing to turn your nose up at. --Kurt B. Reighley

4.0 out of 5 stars Those Clay Aiken Fans Are Up To No Good..., December 17, 2003
By mattyp4 (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
If you want my brief review of the album it goes something like this:
As much as I love Triumph, some of the jokes get old fast. But I think this is the case with most modern comedy albums (especially ones with a lot of vulgarity). The DVD makes up for the CD though. The interviews with B-List celebrities are hilarious. And the overall highlight of the CD/DVD is his duet with Blackwolf the Dragonmaster. Priceless. His participation is pretty admirable. And just for the record, this guy is real. I've seen him (in his full Dragonmaster get-up) walking around the streets in NYC.

But I'm mainly writing this "review" to complain about all the Clay Aiken fans obviously angered by the axed PETA campaign featuring Triumph that claims Clay was neutered.

There must be some Clay Aiken fan page out there starting a grassroots campaign that encourages people to write bad reviews for Come Poop With Me. As if that would make some kind of statement ("We'll show that dog puppet!"). So what we have now is a barrage of one-sentence "reviews," mostly written around mid-November, from generic "music fans" saying this CD is filthy & that Triumph stinks. Hardly constructive criticism.

So is this the best these people could think of? Apparently. It's either this or sue the gay Marine that Clay hooked up with on Manhunt.

I think these bored, dumpy, middle-aged housewives from Florida & the Midwest should find some other way to show their support of Clay Aiken, the "pop God." The kid was the runner-up in a televised talent show. Now he's being called a God by an Oprah-esque cult-like legion of menopausal women who are infatuated by a closet-case twenty-something dweeb who sounds like a second rate Richard Marx at best... which is not saying much considering it's... well, Richard Marx.

So lighten up, Clay fans! Do something more constructive with your time & energy. Or go watch American Idol or the View or something. Don't clutter this on-line store with erroneous reviews for a product you haven't listened to. It's absurd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Album, November 7, 2003
This is just an awesome album. I have been a triumph fan for years and this is as good as it gets. I don't know how anyone could not laugh at this. I am sure any Conan fan will appreciate this and I think everyone else will too. Oh wait... there is that guy who said that Robert Smigel is too ugly to "show his appearance" on tv and is not good enough to make Eminem laugh at VMA as well. Besides lacking a firm grasp of the English language this reviewer also has no sense of humor... if he even did listen to the album. That was a great review..... For me to poop on!

2.0 out of 5 stars Has its moments, but overall not very funny., November 13, 2003
By Jeffrey Benson (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
Okay, so I thought his appearances on Conan and other places were hilarious, so I was really looking forward to this CD. The single ("I Keed") is hilarious, and there are a few funny moments on the CD, but overall it's like one punchline that gets really old really fast. He's funniest when he comments on pop culture & society (Hollywood stars, etc), but unfortunately there is very little of that here and WAAAY too much graphic jokes about dogs having sex (and these jokes aren't that funny and get old fast). As one who's not uptight or prudish (not much offends me) I still think this CD goes overboard too often in my opinion. Graphic sex jokes and curse words exist just for the sake of existing; most of the time it's just being crude without much humor content along with it. Shock value alone is not comedy to me.

Interesting to note that the one track on the album that is "okay for radio" is really the only funny thing ON the album. There's something to be said for comedy being funny without having to cater to the lowest common denominator.

Bottom line: I laughed a few times listening to this CD, but not nearly as much as I expected. And I cringed much more often than I laughed. Other than "I Keed," this CD is a disappointment. Save your money.
