4.0 out of 5 stars Those Clay Aiken Fans Are Up To No Good...
If you want my brief review of the album it goes something like this:
As much as I love Triumph, some of the jokes get old fast. But I think this is the case with most modern comedy albums (especially ones with a lot of vulgarity). The DVD makes up for the CD though. The interviews with B-List celebrities are hilarious. And the overall highlight of the CD/DVD...

2.0 out of 5 stars Has its moments, but overall not very funny.
Okay, so I thought his appearances on Conan and other places were hilarious, so I was really looking forward to this CD. The single ("I Keed") is hilarious, and there are a few funny moments on the CD, but overall it's like one punchline that gets really old really fast. He's funniest when he comments on pop culture & society (Hollywood stars, etc), but unfortunately...

And the overall highlight of the CD/DVD is his duet with Blackwolf the Dragonmaster. Priceless. His participation is pretty admirable. And just for the record, this guy is real. I've seen him (in his full Dragonmaster get-up) walking around the streets in NYC.

But I'm mainly writing this "review" to complain about all the Clay Aiken fans obviously angered by the axed PETA campaign featuring Triumph that claims Clay was neutered.

There must be some Clay Aiken fan page out there starting a grassroots campaign that encourages people to write bad reviews for Come Poop With Me. As if that would make some kind of statement ("We'll show that dog puppet!"). So what we have now is a barrage of one-sentence "reviews," mostly written around mid-November, from generic "music fans" saying this CD is filthy & that Triumph stinks. Hardly constructive criticism.

So is this the best these people could think of? Apparently. It's either this or sue the gay Marine that Clay hooked up with on Manhunt.

I think these bored, dumpy, middle-aged housewives from Florida & the Midwest should find some other way to show their support of Clay Aiken, the "pop God." The kid was the runner-up in a televised talent show. Now he's being called a God by an Oprah-esque cult-like legion of menopausal women who are infatuated by a closet-case twenty-something dweeb who sounds like a second rate Richard Marx at best... which is not saying much considering it's... well, Richard Marx.

So lighten up, Clay fans! Do something more constructive with your time & energy. Or go watch American Idol or the View or something. Don't clutter this on-line store with erroneous reviews for a product you haven't listened to. It's absurd.

Okay, so I thought his appearances on Conan and other places were hilarious, so I was really looking forward to this CD. The single ("I Keed") is hilarious, and there are a few funny moments on the CD, but overall it's like one punchline that gets really old really fast. He's funniest when he comments on pop culture & society (Hollywood stars, etc), but unfortunately there is very little of that here and WAAAY too much graphic jokes about dogs having sex (and these jokes aren't that funny and get old fast). As one who's not uptight or prudish (not much offends me) I still think this CD goes overboard too often in my opinion. Graphic sex jokes and curse words exist just for the sake of existing; most of the time it's just being crude without much humor content along with it. Shock value alone is not comedy to me.

Interesting to note that the one track on the album that is "okay for radio" is really the only funny thing ON the album. There's something to be said for comedy being funny without having to cater to the lowest common denominator.

Bottom line: I laughed a few times listening to this CD, but not nearly as much as I expected. And I cringed much more often than I laughed. Other than "I Keed," this CD is a disappointment. Save your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Straight Poop, August 21, 2004

Look. You know who Triumph is. Robert Smigel is a comedy genius. He proves it time and time again from his days on Conan O'Brien to his "Saturday TV Funhouse" films on SNL. This is the first salvo in what I expect to be the Smigel Wave Of Comedy Delight for hopefully years to come.

Let's start with the DVD. It is brilliance, defined. This disc is a live performance taped at New York's famed Irving Plaza, and it is insane! Ok, some may not love seeing a brown tinged "roundworm" singing a duet with a puppet dog. But Triumph's greatest triumphs are his interviewing skills, especially with a stuffed shirt like MTVs ancient newscaster Kurt Loder and his tatted up protege, Iann "Robertson" (as the dog insists on calling him). Moments like those are the most hilarious, and make the disc worth the price all by itself! Toss in the interview with the "Dude, you're getting a Dell" guy, forced to share the stage with the "I lost weight by eating at Subway" guy, and you have some seriously scintillating entertainment!

In a world that's filled with PC commentary, it takes an insult comic dog to refocus our lives on what really matters: the poop.

My only real complaint is that the video for the single, "I Keed" wasn't included here, though the audio version of it is. The CD features the studio versions of many of the bits as seen on the DVD, plus a few others. A bit redundant, maybe, but still just as good!

Don't let the humorless fool you! It's all great and gets a canine out of ten from me!

5.0 out of 5 stars couldn't stop laughing, January 15, 2004

If you can invision a dog singing these songs and doing these skits, then it's hilarious. If you listen to it and only hear a man talking, then of course it would awkward to you and not very funny. People should open their minds.

As for the Clay fans who have been posting, I for one would much rather get humped by Triumph then have to look at a man who highly resembles an albino rat.

Triumph's romps with Bon Jovi, Star Wars fans, and dog shows are among the finest comedic pieces ever created. I held Triumph in high regard as a witty, intelligent character who never ceased to make me laugh. This album changed everything. Once Smigel gained freedom from the censors, he no longer put any effort into wit, and instead replaced it with profanity, hoping that the profanity, in and of itself, would make people laugh. I listened to this album with 6 other people, all of whom love South Park, Tarantino movies, etc., so the profanity is not an issue. We all sat in dead silence the majority of the time. It was painful and very disappointing. What a letdown. All wit was gone. The DVD is even worse. The bits with guests, especially the Dell guy, are excruciating to watch. We fast-forwarded the Horatio Sanz bit. If you really like Triumph, please do not buy this album if you want to remain a fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars I dug it, December 13, 2004

I finally found this after the Grammy Nomination it got. Benji's Queer and the Cats song are my faves but I loved the whole CD. Jack Black, Conan, Sandler and Horatio all score jamming with my favorite puppet. The DVD may even be funnier. It's filled with great songs captured live, plus Triumph slamming Kurt Loder and the "beetchy" Garofalo. Triumph, claim your hardware!

I wasn't sure about buying this but then I heard it on NPR's 10 best list for 2003. Thanks, Triumph, for reviving a lost art, the foolish, bouncy, sing-along raunchy party album. "Lick Myself" - so clever and funny, an instant classic. "Underage Bichon" - saw you do this on TV, still holds up after all these dog years. Did Belafonte produce it? I swear that was his penny whistle and background singers. Thanks also for straightening me out about cats, and Benji, and the evil nut-chopping Bob Barker (big assist to Jack Black). And thanks for the funny as hell DVD. If only I'd been there to see the Dell Guy up close and drunk. Please come to my town and bring Delly (and Blackwolf, too!)

5.0 out of 5 stars The DVD worth it alone!, July 15, 2004

I could not stop laughing watching this DVD. I love Triumph on Conan and here you get to see him really lay into some people. Kurt Loder and the fat VJ from MTV 2 try to fight back, and it only makes Triumph stronger. Big Pussy from the Sopranos curses out Triumph at the top of his lungs. I thought he was going to attack him. But Triumph keeps his cool and puts him in his place. It was truly raw, scary, and hysterically funny. Everyone talks about the Dell Guy and how drunk he was. It's amazing he made it through the interview. Jared from the Subway ads throws sandwiches at the crowd from a pair of his old pants. The sandwiches aren't well wrapped and the result is as strange as it is hilarious.

Then there are the songs like "Cats are (blank)" with a funny-as-hell Conan cameo. Jack Black explosive as always on Bob Barker, a really good and funny Limp Bizkit parody. The crazy nerd wizard from the Stars Wars line, Blackwolf, almost steals the show from everyone. Horatio Sanz is completely out-of-control hysterical on "You Have to Work Blue", maybe the best song of all. And the finale including everybody (plus Sandler!) is not to be missed.

The CD has a lot of the same great songs, so you can laugh at them in your car, plus at least 7 or so that aren't on the DVD, including the great single "I Keed," "Underage Bichon," and the Sandler duet, "30 Seconds of Magic." And Triumph's panicked phone call to an STD hotline is an audio classic.

I brought this into work and people went nuts for it. "Benji's Queer" and "Cats are (bleep)" are worth it by themselves. Some of the funniest songs you'll ever hear. If you loved Triumph's segments at the Westminster Dog Show, you'll love these songs. He also has a great slam on Blackwolf, the wacky black wizard he met on the "Star Wars" line. Jack Black, Conan O'Brien, and Adam Sandler all have great moments on the CD. The DVD opens with a hilarious song with Maya Rudolph and features the most inaccurate and shocking FDR impression in history courtesy of Horatio Sanz. What an event those live shows at Bowery Ballroom must have been. Throw in some funny crank calls and vintage pooping on the Dell Guy, Jared, and Big Pussy, and holy poop, what are you waiting for?
