This review is from: Come Prima (Vol2) (Audio CD)
Never mind that my french doesnt go further than the title of the first song on this CD ("Oh La La") - what communicates with a listener here are 26 songs recorded between 1957-58 at the dawn of long career of famous italian-jewish beauty.Perhaps even better than vol.1,this vol.2 shows how Dalida singing started to sound more confident and her songs are more diverse (althought there is still lot of then-exotic subjects about Gondolier,Calypso Italiano,Lisabon,Portugal,Gypsies and everything that fitted her image at the time). There are a few covers of italian hits of the time, notably "Volare" and "Come Prima" and a few beautiful discoveries as "Merchand De Fruits" and melodious "Helena".Music, recorded at the end of 1950's was lush orchestrated and touches everything from Tango,Cha Cha Cha and Calypso to ballads that were to be her best weapon in the future. Its hard not to humm along with her as Dalida soars "Gondolier".
