Solid & Cohesive Effort....With Great Lyrics & Melodies....,

I just finished listening this CD tonight. I didn't own it in its original vinyl pressing, so this was my first time hearing the entire album, and there are some great, sweet songs here. Among the favorites I already knew ("Come In From The Rain" and "Circles" among them) I was pleasantly treated to "Let Mama Know," which is becoming a new favorite after only a few repeated listenings. To these add "Ladybug" and "Happier Than The Morning Sun," a song about a very contented relationship -- such a central theme in much of Captain & Tennille's music. If you long for the sounds of a more innocent time, and appreciate genuine musical talent along with tender yet intelligent lyrics, you won't be disappointed.

The music on Captain and Tennille's third album fits well with the warm, cozy and quiet album cover photo. This is a great mellow album filled with wonderful music. "Come In From The Rain" is one of their all-time best songs. "Ladybug" is a song about respecting and appreciating nature and Toni and Daryl do an awesome job on the Stevie Wonder song "Happier Than The Morning Sun." "Circles", penned by Toni and one of the best pure pop songs I have ever heard (and I've heard lots), should have been a major hit. It's funny, the only song that does not fit well on this album was the hit "Can't Stop Dancin" -- it's fun, but should have been left off this album because it is just too frantic for the mellow mood cast by the rest of the songs. This album is great and it's about time it has been released on CD. Here's hoping C & T will record a new album sometime soon!!

Yet Another Excellent Reissue,
By Roger Rebec "Roger Rebec" (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come in From the Rain (Audio CD)
It really is good to have the Captain and Tenille albums reissued on CD. When I had them on vinyl, I preferred their two last ones recorded for Casablanca to the earlier ones they made for A&M. ON CD, however, I find I am enjoying the earlier ones every bit as much as the later ones and this one is my favourite of their A&M recordings.
The vocals and the arrangements are all excellent, which is what you would expect from these wonderful artists, with "Easy Evil" being one of several real highlights. This is a real delight from start to finish. Every reissue in this series has the benefit of new notes by Toni Tenille, which place each album neatly in the context of their recording careers. The remastered sound is excellent. Thoroughly recommended. I wouldn't stop at one; I'd get them all.

Mellow--even for Captain & Tennille!,

This album, released in the Spring of 1977, was the Captain & Tennille's third album. Once again, this album shows the incredible diversity and musicianship of this talented duo.
The album contains a cover of a Stevie Wonder tune (the gorgeous, "Happier Than The Morning Sun"), the New Orleans influenced tune "Sad Eyes", and the stunning "Let Mama Know", which I believe to be one of Toni's best vocal performances ever! Toni Tennille penned only two songs on this album: "Circles" and "We Never Really Say Goodbye". A beautiful album that is quite mellow (except for the frenetic "Can't Stop Dancin'"). Recommended.

GREAT ALBUM, FLAWED CD,
By
This review is from: Come in From the Rain (Audio CD)
The songs on this album are just as great today as when it was originally released in 1977. However, there is at least one flaw in the MASTERING of this CD. During track #6--"Don't Be Scared"-- at time reading 1:29, the song skips a beat. Instead of singing "...she's run from you..." Tennille ends up singing "...she's run foo..." The second counter does not skip a beat, indicating that the flaw is in the original master and not the individual disk. There may have been more flaws, but I stopped listening after this one as it ruined the whole CD for me. So buyer beware. I waited twenty years for this album to be released on CD. I just hope I don't have to wait another twenty years for them to release the corrected version.

Good album, but not their best,

The Captain & Tennille's fourth A&M album (including "Por Amor Vivremos"), "Come In From The Rain" (1977), showed the duo maturing musically. Tennille's vocals on the title song are especially moving, and shows how effective a vocalist she is when performing good ballads. I prefer the livelier numbers, however, and "Circles" and "Can't Stop Dancing" are fun songs to listen to. Tennille's sensuality as a vocalist comes through loud and clear on Alan O'Day's "Easy Evil."
Overall, though, the program drags a bit, especially in the latter half. There are too many serious, slow-tempoed songs, like "Don't Be Scared" and "Happier Than the Morning Sun." Still, its essential listening from this talented duo, who were always developing and honing their act. Just one year later, they released the sublime "Dream," which showcased their musical talents perfectly.

Mastering Error,
This review is from: Come in From the Rain (Audio CD)
I've purchased two of these CDs from two different sellers on Amazon. They both have the same error on track 6 @1:28. The phrase being sung is, "She's run from you". It ends up sounding like, "She's run fryou". The product should either be pulled until this error can be corrected, or a disclaimer should be included in the product description. I have the vinyl version of this album. The track is correct on the vinyl.
