A beautiful gathering of stories for 'children' of all ages.,
By Doc H "How" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come to the Secret Garden: Sufi Tales of Wisdom (Hardcover)
One of Bawa Muhaiyaddeen's 2 collections of short tales with a moral or wisdom point. The author deftly explains the inner meaning of each story in an easily approachable style. Many of the stories concern the prophets of God. We raised our 7 children reading them a story or two each night at bedtime. (Takes 5-10 minutes each) Bawa Muhaitaddeen was a Sufi of towering stature. Any of his books are illuminating for all. A MUST read!!

This book is for anyone between the ages of 8 and 88. Moral based stories many of them from the animal kingdom. Take the hand of a kindly sage and enter the secret garden where the inner mysteries of God's creation are revealed. Through its humorous insights and unique perspectives, this collection of short stories will enchant the hearts of children and adults alike.

I ordered this used, and I was surprised at what a substantial book it is. Think the size of a Text-book. It's definitely a book that is designed to last, which is nice. Upon opening it, I was simply shocked by the amount of love for Allah(swt) contained within. Just reading it... well, it makes one's heart sing. There are stories here for children of all ages, including adults. My guess is that as one gets older...or at each time one hears the story... one will gain in understanding. To get an idea of the stories, go to BMF dot org and click on the Sufi Library. I read these to my kids who range in age from 3 to 7. I see us reading one story per night..as they are usually just a page or two long. So far, the kids really seem to like them. I'd like to include this as part of our family evening ritual.
I've been a Muslim for almost twenty years, and I truly believe that the future of Islam, as well as the true intention of Islam, lies with Sufism. If we had one Sufi Imam/Shaykh for every Extremist--oh what a different world we might live in. If only the Sufis had Saudi's money vs. the Wahabbis so that they could fund masjids around the world. Who knows... maybe one day...Insha'Allah.... :) |
