This review is from: Come and See: Moses and the Torah (Come and See Catholic Bible Study) (Paperback)
THIS IS THE WORK BOOK WE ARE DOING NOW 2009 IN BIBLE CLASS.THE PART OF THESE BOOKS I ENJOY IS THE FACT THAT DISCUSSIONS, GREAT DISCUSSIONS GET STARTED FROM THESE WORKBOOKS. THEY ALSO QUESTION US WHERE IT MAKES US HAVE TO GO THE EXTRA STEP TO SEARCH FOR ANSWERS.BEFORE EACH LESSON THERE IS A SUMMARY THAT TELL A LITTLE OF THE CHAPTER IN THE BIBLE YOU WILL BE WORKING ON. IT IS REALLY A GOOD PLACE TO START WITH A FRIEND OR FEW IN GETTING TO KNOW WHAT THE BIBLE IS SAYING TO YOU. REMEMBER WHEN YOU CHOOSE A BIBLE & CATECHISM (YOU WILL NEED) MAKE SURE ITS A CATHOLIC BIBLE. IT HAS ALL BOOKS INCLUDED. OTHERS ARE MISSING SEVEN IMPORTANT BOOKS OUT OF THEIR BIBLES....

A Fairly Good Resource for Bible Study,

This review is from: Come and See: Moses and the Torah (Come and See Catholic Bible Study) (Paperback)
This is a nice book to use for Scripture Study. It can work on many levels. It covers the text of the Books of Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus and Deuteronomy. This is intended to work in conjunction with a separate Bible that would also have to be brought to class from which the biblical text is to be read. This is heavily dependent on the use of the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (RSVCE); however, it makes reference to the New American Bible (NAB) used at Mass in most Lectionaries, and the Jerusalem Bible (JB) too. Chapters are formed by grouping several biblical chapters together to be studied jointly, as a single unit for an individual class. It is not something for any very advanced study, but is sufficient for most adult classes that you would find on a parish level. It would not require an earth-shattering amount of knowledge of the Bible to make this work with most adults, or even teens. It provides an significant ongoing commentary, not on the complete text, but picks out verses, essential to the understanding of the whole text. It has references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Second Edition. You will also find many quotes from people like Pope Benedict to different Saints. Each chapter covers essential definitions, background, and whatever may be necessary to introduce the text. Each chapter is followed by questions for review and the space to answer them right in the book. These could also be used for discussion questions that can make up part of each class if desirable. This book would be ideal for anyone who would like to lead a fundamental Bible Class. The Introduction has many practical considerations that can be helpful in starting or organizing such a class. I intend to use it as a supplementary resource while teaching the Book of Exodus. It is also something I feel I can suggest for those who would like to do some work during the week at home on their own.
For anyone eager to begin a class on this subject, I would suggest to familiarize yourself with these sources that will provide a good to excellent preparation: The Book of Exodus also available from Saint Joseph Communications in CD (and possibly mp3 download), Exodus Called to Freedom CDs (also in DVD), Through Moses to Jesus: The Way of the Paschal Mystery, and Gregory of Nyssa: The Life of Moses (Classics of Western Spirituality Series), also available in a recent edition Gregory of Nyssa: The Life of Moses (HarperCollins Spiritual Classics).

This is the 5th book of this series which has been chosen by my Bible study group. We are finding it to be well-paced and easy to use. The information is timely, and follows very well with the liturgical calendar. I can't say enough good things about this study series. From the prospective of the leader, I am very happy with it. The material is well thought out and the questions reinforce the material.
