I have enjoyed everything Casting Crowns has released and this one is no different. If anything, it seems to be deeper than their previous CDs with what I feel is a stronger Biblical focus. The lyrics are really well written and the music is memorable with their trademark sound. It might not be a complete "rocking -out" album, but it does what it should; put you in a worshipful frame of mind. Highly recommended!

This I another great cd casting crowns really knows how to inspire people with there songs. We listen to this cd before our mens bible study and all the guys liked it.

Casting Crowns has sold more than eight million albums to date and has been named Billboard magazine's top-selling Christian act for the past four years. The band recently celebrated its first two RIAA certified Gold singles, "Who Am I" and "Praise You In This Storm." Over the past eight years, Atlanta based Casting Crowns has consistently delivered music that points believers back to what truly matters, and the band does so yet again on Come to the Well. On its fifth studio album, Mark Hall once again takes some of the messages he's shared with students and parents at his home church, Eagles Landing, and pours them into songs. Like Casting Crowns' previous albums, Come to the Well is filled with songs that both challenge and encourage believers in their walk. The lead single, "Courageous," is showcased in the Sherwood Pictures film of the same title. The powerful lyric exhorts men to lead bold, uncompromising lives for the Lord. The bridge of the song has a great takeaway message for the album: "Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8). The song certainly fits the musical style of the opening songs from the past few albums, musically reminding me of "Lifesong," "What This World Needs" and "Until The Whole World Hears." "Courageous" and "My Own Worst Enemy" are the only rock style songs on the album, which overall takes on a mellow, reflective and at times country music feel.

"City On The Hill" features strong lyrics reflecting our calling as Christians from Matthew 5. "Jesus, Friend of Sinners" includes the most challenging message on the album in the style of their early hit songs "If We Are The Body" and "Stained Glass Masquerade...." The song opens with the lyrics, "Jesus Friend of Sinners, we have strayed so far away, we cut down people in Your name, but the sword was never ours to swing...The world is on their way to You, but they're tripping over me; always looking around, but never looking up; I'm so double-minded." That type of bold lyric for the church has been this band's trademark and I felt it was somewhat missing from their last album so I was glad to hear a return to that style and also twelve original new songs from the band with no cover songs this time. A standout track is "The Well" about the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4. It has a catchy and memorable chorus "all who thirst will thirst will thirst no more...the world will try, but it can never fill, so leave it all behind and come to the well." Amen to that! The song could end up as this successful band's biggest hit song and I expect the song could also `cross over' to mainstream Country music along with heavy rotation on Christian music radio stations. The beginning of the album is loaded with several radio-friendly songs.

The album takes a cool artistic turn with "Spirit Wind," which is one of the first songs Hall ever wrote. It also has strong lyrics calling out "believers leading carnal lives." The song has a bluegrass flavor unlike any thing Casting Crowns has ever done and it's another catchy and memorable song. Hall, who has won two "Songwriter of the Year" GMA Dove Awards, collaborated with Steven Curtis Chapman, Matthew West and others. Hall wrote "Just Another Birthday" with Tom Douglas, an award-winning country songwriter who has penned numerous country hit songs including "I Run To You" by Lady Antebellum. Band members Megan Garrett and Melodee DeVevo have beautifully expressive voices and Megan takes the lead the poignant "Just Another Birthday." The song reminds me of "Does Anybody Hear Her" from a first person girl's perspective as she cries out to see her father again. It's a reminder for fathers to remember their true priorities and be the spiritual leaders of their homes. I have three young daughters and this is the most moving song on the album as I know that so many young girls lack a father figure. The message of the song is to cry out to God, who is the "Father to the fatherless." Melodee DeVevo sings "Face Down," a worship song penned by Hector Cervantes. "Wedding Day" is about the Second Coming and anticipates the thrill of reveling in the presence of God as the Bride of Christ.

CLOSING THOUGHTS (Staff Review, New Release Tuesday)
Come to the Well is the best album by Casting Crowns since Lifesong. Opening tracks "Courageous," "City On The Hill" and "Jesus, Friend of Sinners" are catchy songs with pointed messages for the church. "Spirit Wind," "Just Another Birthday," "Wedding Day" and "Face Down" are all poignant and moving songs. "The Well" is my favorite song by this band since "Who Am I" and sums up our walks as Christians, "the world will try, but it can never fill, so leave it all behind and come to the well." In the Christian music industry, Casting Crowns do not need an introduction. Mr. Hall, who is the front man for the band created a "monster of praise" when he stepped out in faith and gathered the saints of this marching band to the streets. Carrying too many nominations to mentions and a room full of awards received, this chart topping crew has again created a fantastic conglomeration of life issues both inside and outside of the church. "Come to the Well", which is available for purchase October 18, 2011 is sure to win several more marks on the nomination board for the Crowns.

Radio stations are continually playing their first hit release off the album "Courageous", which was written as the theme song for the recently released film. Courageous reaches out to Fathers and Husbands to take a stand and be courageous in the strength and the power of the spirit of God inside of them to protect and lift his family up. It pleads with men to be full of integrity and character and walk in humility before the Lord. Echoing a message throughout the earth that resounds in all households regardless of choice of faith, it calls to the heart of the Father in a way that cannot be ignored. Incorporated into film, it would not surprise me if it spreads through mainstream radio in a similar fashion as their fellow crusaders for Christ, Mercy Me managed to do with "I can only imagine".

From their first platinum album simply titled "Casting Crowns' to their sixth release they have managed to develop an expectancy in fans to deliver nothing but artistic brilliance and spiritually challenging messages. "Come to the Well" offers a rich new sound to listeners by delivering a variety of beautifully written lyrics with a distinctively different melody in each song....

The second track "City on the Hill" demonstrates the urgency toward the body of Christ to put aside our differences and incorporate the importance of the Cross. The availability of God's saving grace to a world in desperate need of hope and peace. "Each one thought that they knew better, but they were different by design. Instead of standing strong together, they let their differences divide." The melody of this song is easily felt in the heart of the listener and will move you to tears and awaken the spirit of God in your life to put aside your differences and set your eyes on the prize of your faith.

The third track on the album, "Jesus, friend of sinners", happens to follow up right behind the previous message. Speaking to the hearts of Christians to stop pointing out sin in the lives of sinners and begin to repent our selves and pray for the lost and the hurting instead of judging others. "Jesus friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours. You love every lost cause, you reach for the outcast. For the leper and the lame their the reason that you came, Lord I was that lost cause and I was the outcast, but you died for sinners just like me, a grateful leper at your feet." Being very easy to relate to and having an extremely addicting melody this is quickly becoming my favorite.

It is comforting to know that our Lord already knows the plans He has made for us if we walk in submission to Him. Though it may not always be easy we can find some peace in knowing that. "Already There", is a rock ballad that reminds us that it's all in His hands. "The Well" touches the heart of those who are tired and looking for what is missing in their lives. "The world will try, but it can never fill, so leave it all behind and come to the well". It is a persuasive message that has the potential to bring many people who are saved but still broken to a place of freedom and full acceptance of the promises of God in their lives.

Sometimes as a Pastor it is a struggle to look out upon his congregation doing the best he can to be obedient to the Lord and yet still see so many people hurting and bound in their spirit. "Spirit Wind" speaks to the heart of those who face this kind of struggle and reminds us that God can speak to the dry bones and raise them up again no matter what the situation looks like. God is able.

Displaying the heart cry and joyous emotions of three different life situations you will find "Just Another Birthday", "Wedding Day" and "Angel" magnificent additions to this marvelous combination of encouraging messages. You may also be able to use these as tools for people who normally would not listen to Christian music.

If you want a song to get your heart pumping and your spirit revved up, "My Own Worst Enemy" delivers a punch to the CD that adds a little different seasoning. If I had to compare the sound, strangely it would be Skillet. It is definitely invigorating and can cause an unexpected Jesus jam session to arise if you are not prepared. The lyrics consist of how we often hold ourselves back from the best God has for us. "Could have sworn I put him in the ground, looks like he's found his way out. God help me get away, break the chains and set me free, from the other side of me." I am going to bet this will be a favorite for many Casting Crown fans simply because it's out of the box for them and yet still fantastic.

They bring the CD to a close with two powerful ballads "Face Down" focuses on the importance of how the world sees us as followers of Christ and how being humbled at His feet, only relying on Him displays our trust. "So Far to Find You", is the closing song that displays a powerful cry from God to each of our hearts to see how far He has come to find us. The longing desire He has to hold us in His arms and allow Him to love us. "But I can hear a voice, that's whispering my name saying come to me, I am all you need and I am calling. Will you let me hold you with my arms tonight; will you take my love and give up the fight. I have come so far to find you."

For those of you who have been anticipating the release of "Come to the well" you will not be disappointed. It is a wellspring of life and motivational messages that will both challenge you and encourage you. It may even give you some insight to how you can reach someone you know that is discouraged and needs a light to shine through to them.

Casting Crowns is back with what is easily their best album since "Lifesong", and while I find fewer songs to "skip" here than I do on Lifesong, Lifesong still remains my favorite album by them, as "Does anybody hear her" and "Stained Glass Masquerade' are still easily their best songs, and unmatched by anything on "Come to the Well". Casting Crowns has yet to put out a bad album. "The altar and the door" was phenomenal(though I do like "Lifesong" and "Come to the well" better), and "Until the whole world hears" has become my absolute favorite worship album. I was relieved that this album did not contain any true "worship" songs, after the past album contained nothing but.

So, to the album.

Courageous - 8/10 - On paper, this is a great Casting Crowns song. From the meaning, to the fast moving "Rock" chorus, it has all the elements to be a 10. It just falls short. Musically it is interesting enough, but never really "hooked" me in. Lyrically, Casting Crowns can do much better. The Lyrics lack Depth and complexity. The lyrics played it very safe, and took far too many lines from the movie the song promotes. I give it an 8 as I do enjoy the song, I just expected so much more from this one.

City on the Hill - 9/10 - Wonderful song. THIS is what I have come to expect from Casting Crown's lyrics. Just phenomenal.

Jesus, Friend of Sinners - 9/10 - A very challenging song with the quality of lyrics I have come to expect from Casting Crowns. This song has lyrics that actually shocked me a bit the first time I heard them, as Mark put in a song what I have been thinking for a very long time. Read below.

"Jesus Friend of Sinners, we have strayed so far away. We cut down people in your name, but the sword was never ours to swing.... / No one knows what we're for only what we're against, when we judge the wounded. What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did / Jesus, Friend of Sinners, open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers. Help us reach with open hearts and open doors. Jesus, Friend of Sinners, Break our hearts for what breaks yours."

Lyrically, this song is a 10, hands down. Musically, I have to give it a 9. It is strange, as half of the song(The verse's, and the first half of the chorus), sound like a very traditional worship song musically, where the second half of the song sounds like a signature Casting Crowns power ballad in the tradition of "Slow Fade". I love this song, but I find the setup very strange.

Already There - 10/10 - The Verse's again have such a different sound from the Chorus here...they're like 2 different songs! Anyhow, love this one. Great meaning to the song, and the chorus draws you in and doesn't let go!

The Well - 7/10 - I have not listened to this song to give a definitive answer, but it just is not my style. Has a Country sound I've never heard from Casting Crowns, and just isn't my favorite musically. That being said, it does have good lyrics.

Spirit Wind - 8/10 - Again, wonderfully written lyrics. Very different sound for the band, but I really like this one.

Just another Birthday - 9/10 - Beautiful song that will hit home for many listeners. Mark wrote in based on several experiences he had as a youth pastor. The song tells the story about how Jesus can become a father for the fatherless.

Wedding Day - 10/10 - This may be my favorite song on the album. It is a beautiful song about our wedding Day with the Lord, who wipes away our every mistake.

Angel - 6.5/10 - Mark wrote this song to his wife, and that is very sweet. For that reason, I do not want to speak too ill about the song, but it has a rather generic sound to it, with rather cliche lyrics.

My Own Worst Enemy - 7.5/10 - "My own worst enemy" it is pretty self explanatory in it's title. This song is a very fast paced Rock Anthem, that has a very rough sound to it. Certainly not for everyone, though I find it enjoyable enough. The lyrics are average, similar to "Courageous" in which they play it rather safe in the lack of depth and complexity.

Face Down - 7/10 - This is a pleasant song. To be honest, I have not given it enough airtime to give a definitive review. Again, the lyrics are only average. Overall, a nice song.

So far to find you - 9.5/10 - Beatiful song, beautiful lyrics, just beautiful.

Overall, an excellent album from "Casting Crowns", though I feel there was nothing that really measured up on this album, to some of my prior Casting Crown's favorites(Does anybody hear her, Stained glass masqeurade, Slow fade, East to West). Read more ›
