Passion to Hook You From Beginning to End,
By Dr. Edward Dow (Pewaukee, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come Up And See Me Sometime (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a book that I just couldn't put down! Another winner for Lucy Monroe.
Alex and Isabel meet for the first time when Alex confronts Isabel at her office, demanding to know why she is trying to raid his top employee. Isabel says she was just doing her job as a career specialist to assist her client who asked for this particular employee. Later Alex calls her to ask her to dinner, with the ulterior motive to find the name of her client. He suspects it is her father, John Harrison, who he blames for his father's death from a heart attack two years ago. As such, he feels justified in his motive to exact revenge on John Harrison by taking down his company, Hypertron. In the course of his background check of John Harrison, he has had a photo of Isabel for the past two years which he has been infatuated with ever since. The real woman seals the deal in his mind~ he has to make her his. He feels if he marries her, she won't leave him when she finds out about his separate revenge motive, as she is somewhat estranged from her father anyway. When he finds her list of requirements for the father of the babies she intends to have on her desk, he uses it to bait her, in the hopes of convincing her to marry him if only to have the babies she desires. The chemistry between Isabel and Alex is smoldering. Alex has not made time for women in the past in his quest to develop his company, CIS. He is captivated by Isabel, while still trying to stay on course with his revenge motive that he feels is justified. He does not want to lose Isabel in the process as he desperately needs her in his life. Isabel is drawn to Alex in spite of her eventual discovery of his revenge motive. The only thing missing is the knowledge that he loves her. This is a real "can't miss" romance.

Wow, A Great Read !!,

This review is from: Come Up And See Me Sometime (Mass Market Paperback)
Alex Trahern is a person bent on revenge from the one person who he feels is responsible for his father's death, John Harrison. He has accumulated as much information he could in order to help cement a deal for a hostile take over of John's company Hypertron. This includes a picture of Isabel who Alex has always thought was beautiful. But being the enemy's daughter has prevented him from acting on his obsession with her. But when Isabel contacts Marcus Danvers to offer him a better position, Alex decides to pay her a visit. When Isabel meets Alex for the first time she is disturbed by his presence, but regardless of her inner feelings for him she holds her ground and stands up to him. Although Alex is a tall, dark, handsome and a powerful person, Isabel is the beautiful, kind and sweet person that throws him for a loop. The sexual chemistry is strong from the first meeting, and Alex has decided that he must have her, as his own, and thinks that by marrying her he can deflect her leaving him when she finds out about his revenge plan. This is a book that shows how Isabel, with her love for him, can turn the determined and at times hard-headed Alex around. Lucy Munroe takes us on an journey with two strong characters and the twists and turns that comes before the final showdown, all the while showing you the human aspects of them both. She also does a great job of laying the foundation for Marcus to have his own story. This was a great read, which left you wanting for more and I look forward to her next book.

Me, I didnt care as much for The Real Deal as I did this book. So far this is my favorite. I liked both the main characters. Alex was an alpha male, but Isabela wasnt exactly a push over.
The plot was fast moving but kept you entertained. It was a light, fun read. Id recommend it.

I first discovered Ms Monroe with The Real Deal. I really liked that book and thought I had found another author to glom. Unfortunately the two books of hers that I've read since have left me disappointed. Her heroes are total alphas, which I usually like but they're also, in my opinion, pretty self-involved. It's all about them and what they want. Oh they're handsome and sexy alright, but I'm not sure I like them very much. Simon from TRD seems to be an aberration as I found him much more likeable and vulnerable than the ones I've read since.
Alex Trahern is looking to ruin the man he holds responsible for his father's death. He's brokering a deal for a hostile take-over of John Harrison's company knowing it will break the man. He's done his homework and investigated every aspect of his target's life, including his daughter, Isabel. He's got a picture of her in his file on Harrison and he's a little obssessed with it. She's beautiful, but the daughter of his enemy. When he learns that she has contacted his right hand man, Marcus Danvers to try and recruit him, he wonders if she is working as a spy for her father. Well, he'll just pay her a little visit and find out. Isabel Harrison is a headhunter and is given Marcus' name to recruit for a client. Alex couldn't be more wrong about her working for her father as she and he are completely estranged. He's a cold workaholic who left her to be raised by a series of nannies after her mother died. This leaves Isabel unnaturally desperate to have children and a family - the family she never had. She's made a list of the qualities the perfect man would have but so far she's not met Mr Right. When Alex walks into her office and bullies her to reveal the name of her client, she holds her ground but can't help the attraction she feels for him. Days later out of the blue he invites her to dinner and the date is a disaster. He's rude and nasty to her and by then end of the evening she's seething. But then something happens within him and the next thing you know, they're sharing some steamy kisses. From there on out, he pursues her doggedly but she's not quite sure why. And when he finds her list of qualities for the perfect husband he uses it to convince her to marry him. But is this all for real or does he have some ulterior motive? This was a steamy read and on some level I enjoyed it, but like I said, Alex was a bit much for me. I didn't understand his sudden obsession with her. It didn't feel like love so much as irrational posessiveness to me. And she pretty much just goes along for the ride to me. Whatever he wants she lets him take, at least for the most part. I would have enjoyed this story more if he were more likeable and she were a bit stronger but if you like pushy, overbearing alphas, you may like this one more than I did. BTW there will be sequel to this one about Marcus and former secretary Veronica that is due out in December, I think.

A Story With Potential,
By
This review is from: Come Up And See Me Sometime (Mass Market Paperback)
Alex Trahern is driven by revenge. He plans on playing a part in destroying the man he hold responsible for his father's death. John Harrison's company is ripe for a hostile take over and Alex is going to make sure that the man has nothing left when he's done with him. But when his beautiful daughter Isabel Harrison puts herself directly in his path he has to wonder if he will be able to keep the lady while destroying her father.
Isabel Harrison is a headhunter for the corporate world. When a client request she get in contact with Marcus Danver's, Alex Trahern's she has no idea that her life is about to change. She is drawn to the dark handsome Alex, but she is not sure she can trust him with her heart or her dreams. When she finds out Alex's secret will she be able to forgive him or will she end up believing she can never have her happy family? This story had a great deal of potential. Ms. Monroe knows how to create a wonderful alpha male but this time around Alex was almost a little over the top. It was hard to understand where Alex and Isabel "fell in love." Isabel was a sweet character and managed to hold her own with her hero. But, the constant litany of "can I trust him?" became tedious after awhile. Ms. Monroe did manage to create a wonderful chemistry between her two main characters and that was perhaps the saving grace on this read.

All in all it was a good book and I enjoyed it. It was a light read and the hero was an ultimate alpha male. I just couldn't help but roll my eyes at how naive, sweet, and innocent the heroine was! So forgiving! I was numb with disbelief at how patient she was. How understanding! My tooth hurt at how sweet she was. She forgave all his transgressions right away! Ugh I wished she bashed him over the head. I enjoy a good fight between heros and heroines.
All in all still a good read!

Sexy contemporary romance,
This review is from: Come Up And See Me Sometime (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I have read by Ms. Monroe and I thought it was very enjoyable. I was a bit surprised that others here rated it so low. I suppose I can see how some people might find Alex too overbearing, but I love a good alpha hero and he's the perfect example of one. And Isabel is a sweet heroine that the reader can identify with. If you are a fan of hot love scenes and attraction at first sight, then I would say this is the book for you.

Gorgeous Entrepreneur seeks Sexy Polyanna,

This review is from: Come Up And See Me Sometime (Mass Market Paperback)
If you are looking for a steamy, classic, romance then you must read "Come Up and See Me Sometime." The immediate, combustive attraction between Alex and Isabel is barely restrained as you are pulled into the hearts and minds of these two irresistible personalities.
Alex is a determined, hard-headed man, with very strong character and emotional depth. Isabel is a delightfully whimsical, sassy woman with a strong sense of kindness and belief in humanity. Both are anything but typical in their personal outlooks on life and they find the explosive chemistry between them an exciting and total, if not always welcomed, surprise!! With her usual talent for romantic twists and creative turns, the author leads the reader along the fast paced path of a wonderfully romantic story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves classic romance at its edgiest!

Don't miss this book,

Lucy Monroe has written another scorcher in Come Up And See Me Sometime.
Alex Trahern has had plans to destroy John Harrison and his company for a few years. He blames Harrison for the death of his father. When Headhunter Isabel Harrison tries to lure Alex's top employee away, Alex plans on using Isabel to get to her father. But one look at her and other thoughts are filling his brain. Isabel loves her job of matching employers with top-notch employees. When Alex appears at her office to confront her, her breath is taken away. The magnetic Alex sweeps Isabel off her feet but she doesn't know about his takeover plans for her fathers business. Alex and Isabel each have strong issues from their past to overcome. Their passion and friendship lays a foundation for them to hopefully build upon. Lucy Monroe writes such strong male and female characters. You are drawn to their strengths but can see their human weakness as well. They are able willing to bend and compromise. And when conflict does arise it's dealt with beautifully. Lucy Monroe deserves a huge spot on any keeper shelf.

NOT AS GOOD AS "THE REAL DEAL", BUT . . .,
By Lolita (PR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Come Up And See Me Sometime (Mass Market Paperback)
Actually, 2 1/2 stars. As other reviewers, I discovered Lucy Monroe with "The Real Deal" and I loved the way she developed each character's personality and growth. Those characters were multi-dimensional and emotionally mature. In "Come Up And See Me Sometime" (has anyone figured out the meaning of the title and how it relates to the story?) I found that the characters are not as well developed and their actions are impulsive and unrealistic, even by romance novel standards. The plot relies on big and little misunderstandings which cast doubt on the probability of the hero and heroine building a solid happily ever after. At times it seemed that I was reading an old Harlequin Presents that had been padded to make a longer novel. The writer also abuses metaphors and her prose in this novel is a medium shade of purple. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story and have hopes that Ms. Monroe will refine her writing and deliver according to the promise shown in "The Real Deal".
