Editorial Reviews

Originally released in 1971 on Maranatha! Music, this digitally remastered release includes a full band bio, lyrics, and is limited to just 1000 copies! For fans of Simon & Garfunkel, Love Song, Peter, Paul, & Mary, early Phil Keaggy. This is where it all started. Children of the Day should probably be viewed as the world's first Jesus Music back then. It was an album that defined the Jesus movement as well as any other album ever would and it became a national phenomenon. As one historian puts it, "Children of the Day were first--and Love Song was about ten minutes behind." They were teenage musicians -- that could not help but sing and write songs in the musical idioms most readily available to them, the California sounds that they heard emanating from their transistor radios. Musically, they and their peers (especially Love Song) provided some of the single most authentic moments in American music of the early '70s. They will always be best remembered for one incredible song: "For Those Tears I Died" (first found on The Everlastin' Living Jesus Music Concert compilation lp and sometimes called "Come to the Waters"). An absolute masterpiece, written by a 16-year-old (Marsha Stevens), it expresses adolescent piety better than any other Christian song ever written. They were integrally related to the ministry of Costa Mesa's Calvary Chapel ("ground zero" for the Jesus movement). The group even borrowed $900 for Pastor Chuck Smith to record their debut masterpiece at Abbey Sound Ltd in LA. It was engineered by Buck Herring (2nd Chapter of Acts).

5.0 out of 5 stars Children of the Day's "Come to the Waters" album, March 27, 2011

A beautiful and heart-lifting album, seminal in the annals of the Jesus Movement music, the title song (also known as "For Those Tears I Died") alone is worth the price of admission. The quartet is far more folksy in style than what might be thought of as "Jesus Rock." You can see the song performed live on YouTube by searching "Children of the Day" (include the quotes in your search). Hearing the simple, sincere and moving lyrics, sung by four young Christians barely out of their teens, with Marsha's beautiful voice leading, still brings tears to my eyes. And it is her voice, and the passion she expresses with it, that makes these songs so special and moving. The music of Children of the Day is almost impossible to find. Several of their other albums seem non-existent. This could be due to the fact that Marsha underwent a divorce and embraced a lesbian lifestyle later on (yet is still unshaken in her faith in Christ). Nonetheless, this album still expresses a love for Christ that is still real and palpable, and worth having.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic Jesus Movement Classic, August 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Come To The Waters (Audio CD)
If you were saved during the Jesus Movement of the 70's, you probably had this classic album. This started it all and is what contemprary christian music was all about. Pleasing the Master and Savior, and not the producers, or the secular world. Having a clear message of the gospel and not diluted dual interpretation message for commercial gain. Here is about the cross, the blood, and the power of God into salvation, nothing more, nothing less.
