5.0 out of 5 stars Rosly Kind - Fabulous Vocalist
Barbra Streisand has a half sister - Roslyn Kind. She has a fabulous voice. I can't understand why she is not a huge star unless she doesn't want to be. 'Come What May' her album that I recently purchased is beautiful. People in Florida are so lucky as she is appearing at the Kravis Centre on the 14th April of this year. She has already sold out 3 concerts this year. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars In the Shadow of a Giant
Having been a fan of Barbra Streisand for over forty years, I was curious to know how her half-sister, Roslyn Kind, measured up in the vocal stakes. I am pleased to report that Roslyn has a superb voice & vocal style and does not suffer in comparison with her more-famous sibling.

The great frustration is that this genuine talent is being under-sold by the...

Listen to Roslyn and I defy you not to be impressed and moved by the standard of vocal she produces.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful lady inside and out...., October 30, 2006

I had the opportunity to hear Ms. Kind perform live in West Hollywood on October 21, 2006 and I was so taken by her stage presence, her love of the audience (and their love of her) and her vocal prowess. I bought the CD after the show and have been playing it daily since ("Perfect" and "Come What May" are among my favorites). The arrangements are just her and a pianist, as though you were sitting next to her in a piano bar, or better yet, curled up on your living sofa with a cocktail in one hand. Until her next CD (which I understand may come out in 2007) at least I can hear her marvelous, golden voice whenever I want -- but luckily I heard it live and that, my friends, is a real treat.

Roslyn Kind's album is absolutely fantastic. If you're like me and want soft, easy, beautiful singing playing in the background while you relax or are having an intimate dinner party, this album is for you. This album is one I greatly treasure. Okay, she sounds very similar to her famous sister. It's obvious that great musical genes were passed down and so why not just appreciate this God-given talent who is so deserving and just listen to this incredibly accomplished vocalist.

If you truly love your pets, you will especially LOVE the bonus track "At Times Like This" which is the most poignant and touching acknowledgement to her little doggie Josh. This beautiful song shows us just how important our beloved pets are and how deep their love is for us. Brava to you, Roslyn, for making this the theme song for all of us who love our little four-legged friends. The lyrics are so respectful and honor our little ones.

I only wish there were more tracks on this CD and look forward to the release of many more and possibly some re-issues of previous works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it a conspiracy?, February 19, 2008
This review is from: Come What May (Audio CD)
I first caught, and just a tiny bit, but enough to whet my appetite, Roslyn Kind on a "talk show," perhaps around the time this album was first released or earlier. She stood there, with just piano accompaniment, and sang...and sang beautifully. And, yes, one could hear touches of Barbra, her half-sister, in particular phrasing or notes she sang. I remember thinking that, as much as I worship Barbra...have worshipped her music and her talent for forty-five years now...how I wished Barbra would try an approach to an album such as Roslyn had done...simple, lovely, and with just a piano backing her. Roslyn's album is an eclectic grouping of songs; but it's the first cut, "Perfect," that will catch you and make you a fan. It's dramatic, gorgeously phrased, with the attention to diction that is Barbra's trademark too. Why haven't we heard more of Roslyn? Has there been a conspiracy to keep her out of her half-sister's way? And wouldn't it be neat if they did an album together? One would think Barbra, with the longevity of career and the pedestal she's been on for so long, would offer a helping hand in getting this other voice out there. Doesn't seem as if that effort has been made. Give Roslyn a listen...you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent singer, one of life's undiscovered treasures, August 22, 2007

One of the greatest female singers of all time, certainly one of the most underated, this collection is one I've been looking for since it was recorded and I saw her singing a couple of the songs from it on a talk show. I'm glad I found it on Amazon, and it wil continue to be one of my favorites along with her two previous rock/pop LP's on RCA. If you're curious where Barbra learned to rock, it was from little sis here. And her body of work proves that although the lightning of fame might not strike twice in the same place, talent definitely does run in THIS family and the apples didn't fall far from the tree. Go Roslyn! The world might not know ya that well, but God sure does!

4.0 out of 5 stars Roslyn Kind & Michael Orland give a great show!, October 11, 1999
By
Troy Boy (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: COME WHAT MAY (Audio CD)
I just bought this wonderful CD, which was autographed by a gracious, beautiful, and radiant Roslyn Kind who (with talented pianist Michael Orland) visited our city in October while on a tour in North Carolina. What a naturally-gifted performer . . . she brought the audience to its feet! I've been a fan of her legendary sister for over 30 years, and even though there are striking vocal similarities to Barbra (whom she referred to good-naturedly before singing a medley of "People" / "I've Gotta Be Me"), Roslyn Kind definitely has a mesmerizing singing style of her own. She deserves more recognition than she has received, and this "Come What May" CD may bring it. Although it is a nicely-produced showcase of her immense talent and well worth the money, I just wish producer Orland had included a few more tracks to enjoy. It's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars great material, November 9, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Come What May (Audio CD)
I enjoy this CD - I am also a big fan of Ms. Kind's half - sister, and wish her sister would make more CD's with material of this sort (in fact her sister has recorded some of these songs - which would be a weakness of sorts, if one is trying to avoid comparisons, why record the same material?) But her recordings stand well next to Barbra's. I appreciated the mix of standards and good current material and broadway. (Great version of "Meadowlark" by the way)
I do recommend this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars So what's a girl to do?, October 7, 2007
This review is from: Come What May (Audio CD)
Yes, she sounds an awful lot like you-know-who, but genetics (and a deviated septum) are not to be trifled with, are they? Roslyn Kind has her own intelligent, creative reading of lyrics ("The Man That Got Away" is as fine as any version I've ever heard) and she's earthier and more cheerful than you-know-who, to boot. Think of her as another exponent of That Style, and give her the credit she deserves for sticking to her guns and working with what God gave her--and it's true, she should have a more elaborate backing for the next CD, but on the other hand, when it's just your voice and a piano, there's nowhere to hide, either, and here she gives a fine accounting of her ability. So come on, some deep-pockets out there, and give her the orchestra she deserves next time!

5.0 out of 5 stars No rivalry here, November 6, 2004

Roslyn~~~~ why oh why has she only this one recording?
The music industry must be myopic as well as tone deaf not to
see the shining talent abundant on this recording.
This woman ROCks. She soars. She sizzles. She soothes.
She is sublime. She is one of a kind. A true chanteuse.
I love this recording.
If you appreciate the voices of Betty Buckley, Marin Mazzie,
Linda Eder, Kristen Chenoweth...Roslyn is in their class.
And that is the top of the class.
