5.0 out of 5 stars Shanklin is amazing!, October 7, 1999
This review is from: Comeback Kid Tour (Audio CD)
Just when you thought there wasn't enough new material on Bill and Hillary to go around, Paul Shanklin comes out with the CD Comeback Kid Tour. Shanklin's unique talent is what makes this a great work for years to come.

Shanklin's obvious political disdain for the current administration is what enable his truth through a great mix of parodies and songs to come shining through. Shanklin delivers a message that should put the white house on notice.

26 Tracks including the hilarious WEREWOLVES IN CONGRESS and POLL MAN, will have you thinking twice about just what and who is running the country. You find yourself asking for more.

The voices of Bill, Hillary, Algore, Teddy, Calypso Louie and others are superbly done. A must have for those tired of the shenanigans of this current administration. A real eye opener - a real pleasure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clinton may be gone, but the humor remains, July 6, 2002
This review is from: Comeback Kid Tour (Audio CD)
Political parodist extraordinaire Paul Shanklin showed no signs of a sophomore slump with this, his second album, released during election year 1996; in fact, from top to bottom, this may well be his most consistently entertaining album. His impressions of Bill Clinton and Al Gore have been improved significantly, the skits he performs are quite funny, and the musical parodies he sings are all fun and sung to rather catchy, familiar songs. Most of the selections feature Bill Clinton and/or Al Gore, but Shanklin does manage to sneak in a few jabs elsewhere. Louis Farrakhan promises to show you how one plus one can be nineteen and how half a million people can be made to equal two million in his new book Million Man Math Made Easy. Ross Perot puts in a couple of appearance, Pat Buchanan is presented in a skit relating to NAFTA-type concerns, and we are introduced to The Simpletons family.

As always, the music makes the album. Prominent among the songs are "Werewolves in Congress" and "Poll Man" (Soul Man), both of which feature great background singing by Al Gore. I especially love to hear Gore's "dum dum dum dum dee doo wah on "Only Baloney" (Only the Lonely). "Me and Hillary" (Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard) features such classic lines as "I'm hopin' that dope, Webb Hubble, only sings in the shower." In "Conservative Boy" (Material Girl), Clinton passes himself off as a conservative but admits that not even he believes he only exhaled. "My Girls" (My Girl) needs no explanation. One of my favorite tracks is "They'll Get You Babe" (I Got You Babe), in which Bill and Hillary exchange charges of wrongdoing. All in all, there are 12 songs, of which only one, Ross Perot's song "A White Tight Coat," is sub-par. Clinton may not be President anymore, but that does not mean we all can't listen to and laugh along with Shanklin's brilliantly funny parodies.
