Look Forward, Not Backward!
on April 20, 2012
Everyone has problems in life, everyone has setbacks - it is how we deal with those problems and setbacks that change us and make us into a better person. In Rick McDaniel's book Comeback, he reiterates that one must deal with the past to get to the future successfully.
This one hundred and seven page book is a very fast read and can be read quickly under two hours. It is written in easy-to-read block format with bold headings and quick one-to-three liners for verification.
It is easy for the reader to decipher that Rick McDaniel is a Christian pastor who has a passion and love for people, especially those who are hurt, lonely or dealing with a setback of life.
The book discusses why we all have setbacks, what we can learn from them and how to get ready for a comeback. It promotes change, which none of us ever want to do. It explains not only the components of a comeback but the steps to achieve goals to move on with life after having a setback. The goal is to have a strong, satisfying and successful comeback.
Rick explains the core reason we have a setback in life is that we need to rely and trust in God. There are reasons and purposes for setbacks and we need to come to Him for motivation, change and confidence in making a comeback. It is a hard thing to do but we must learn from the setback, change what we were doing to cause the setback and then look forward to a comeback.
The final two chapters of the book concentrate on comebacks of famous people including an interesting conversation with Frank Reich, a former NFL football player along with a list of Rick's top ten greatest comebacks. Listed are mostly sport-related. However, Rick purposely has the most important comeback being the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who forgives us of our sins and helps us ultimately deal with our own setbacks so that we can attain comebacks too.
This book is a refreshing look at how to overcome the depression and mire one easily falls into when there is a setback. Humans so easily get caught up in their own circumstances, especially if they produce negative results. This book aids in helping one move on in life by not only accepting the setback but by learning from it, changing our behavior and moving forward to an exciting, purposeful comeback.
