Book Description

November 17, 1983
A former POW hunts for the truth behind a web of murder, betrayal, and treason. In the midst of the Korean War, Martin Shane and five others were captured as POWs and tormented by the cruel Colonel Li. One of them revealed military secrets in return for freedom, but before Shane could uncover his identity, a violent explosion wiped his memory and confined him to the sterile halls of a mental institution. When he suddenly regains his memory six years later, Shane has only one goal: find out who betrayed them to Colonel Li. Shane seeks out the five men he fought beside all those years ago in order to expose a shocking truth behind the fateful day that changed all of their lives forever. 5.0 out of 5 stars INDEED, HIGGINS IS "THE MASTER", October 15, 2011
This review is from: Comes the Dark Stranger (Audio CD)

Tom Clancy has called Jack Higgins "the master," and we're reminded of that in "Comes the Dark Stranger," originally written, I believe, in the 60s. Thus, some of the references might be a bit dated but there is the familiar Higgins zing - action, suspense - all brought to life by the voice of Michael Page.

When Martin Shane and five others are captured, taken as POWs during the Korean War it's a given that none of them would betray their country by giving away secret information in order to be set free. However, that was not the case - one of them revealed military secrets to their tormentor, the merciless Colonel Li.

However, before Shane could find out which one of them was the betrayer he loses his memory as the result of an explosion. Relegated to a mental institution, it is six long years before his memory returns. When that happens Shane has only one thought - discover who had turned on those who had fought side by side.

This search eventually reveals a shocker that stuns even after so much time has passed. Vintage Higgins in more ways than one.

Enjoy.
