Editorial Reviews

A couple's son and daughter inexplicably reappear after being lost overnight on a desolate, cave-riddled mountainside. Becoming withdrawn and beginning to exhibit strange behavior, their parents quickly assume something sinister happened to them. But after hearing an ominous local legend, the concerned mother and father begin to realize that their children may have fallen prey to something inhuman and that this dark, unstoppable evil has now returned home with them.

Customer Reviews

Special effects were awful.

Yes, there were moments of gratuitous sex, but that felt appropriate to the subject matter.

The movie starts with a very graphic lesbian sex scene, and just heads downhill from there.

This is a slow burn horror film from the Spanish horror director of cold sweat. He has directed a few other films as well, but this one is definitely his best work. I really hate when other reviewers give low ratings because it wasn't scary. Horror films don't have to be scary. Films like this should build up the terror slowly, and that's just what it did. Yes it's low budget fare as well, but they had all the money they needed to pull everything off convincingly. The film reminded me of Picnic at Hanging Rock a little bit. It's more of a mysterious horror film. I absolutely love this kind of horror. There's just not enough of it. So if your a true fan of horror do yourself a favor, and see this film. If you loved House of the Devil, your going to love this. If you thought that was boring, then your probably not going to like this. Watch Transformers 3 again, and save the smart stuff for us.

That is if you don't mind dialogue and story development. This story starts off with a bang and then simmers down to bring us slowly into the mystery of events unfolding. The aesthetics are a fascinating blend of grindhouse, giallo and, well, trippy hallucinogenic devil movie stuff. The soundtrack is spot on and never distracting. Yes, there were moments of gratuitous sex, but that felt appropriate to the subject matter. Let's just say that there's some clever editing that makes it an important part of the story it's telling. To tell you what I think it added to the story would be a little too revealing, (so to speak), so if you can keep an open mind about it, perhaps you'll see what I mean.

I also compare this to "House of the Devil" but the style never trumps substance and therefore never gets boring, which was my main problem with HOTD. I give it a 5 because I gave HOTD 4 and I do believe this was better. It IS arthouse/thinking person horror, not slasher or torture porn or horror com, so keep that in mind before renting. For those open to this kind of horror film, it is creepy. as. hell.

This is for the thinking person type of horror movie. It's not a slasher. It's not a jump out and scare you. The movie tells a story. It's like having someone tell you a legend in the form of a movie. When I finished, I felt like I had just read a good book. The movie stayed with me after I watched it, in a good way. I thought about the legend and what if it was true. Sometimes, after a slasher movie, I can only remember a few kill scenes, not that I don't love slasher films. This is just different. Anyway. I love films like this and I hope to see more.

It's hard to find any original and well made American horror films these days, so if you're cool with subtitles, give this one a shot. There's a decent story here, and although it's not perfectly executed, I overlooked that flaw due to the consistent tension and well designed sense of impending doom. My biggest complaint was that it felt like it could have been at least two different films, but only because some of the themes it touches upon could very well have made into their own movies, but that's a small price to pay for a well done, well acted, b horror movie. Worth a late night viewing if you're a horror hound like yours truly.

This movie was actually pretty creepy. The acting was not bad either. And not alot of blood which was refreshing. It had a slow burn creep out affect. And just doom ridden. You knew something bad was gonna happen, just when. The only problem I had was its in Spanish and I had to read subtitles lol. Ohhh there is quite a bit of sex and nudity. So be warned

Do not watch this in the dark or with some Mexican friends.
The opening lesbian scene is the last positive feel to the movie...its gradually gets darker as it continues until you start hearing rocks hit your house.

While the horror genre is strong and thriving in today’s world of film, many movies that it produces tend to be stylized or over-the-top. This is not to say that they are not enjoyable, but it seems difficult to find a truly terrifying film, one that chills you right to the core. If this has been your experience lately, then worry no more. HERE COMES THE DEVIL, an upcoming title from Magnet Releasing, will rekindle your love affair with terror. And if the film’s straight-up horror doesn’t scare you, the psychological undercurrents certainly will. This is definitely a movie that every single horror fan will want to check out.

Films about demonic possession and, well, the devil himself never get old for me. I enjoy seeing the unique takes that Hollywood writers can come up with in regard to these topics. Of course, there are true duds out there that simply rehash old ideas…but every once in while, a diamond in the rough appears. Thus is the case with this film.

HERE COMES THE DEVIL is an original and thought-provoking horror piece. It starts off with a bang and then continues to come after you at a relentless pace. It is shot well, and the cinematography is a key piece to achieving its unnerving feel.

The special effects are good as well. There’s not a ton of gore, but what we do get to see looks very nice onscreen. Likewise, the acting is top notch. I have never heard of any of the cast, but they do a stellar job in their roles.

The story in HERE COMES THE DEVIL is what wins me over the most. I am not going to go into major detail here, so as not to ruin it for you, but I particularly like the ending the best. It is something I did not see coming, and it leaves you with an intensely eerie feeling.
