INDEED, HIGGINS IS "THE MASTER",
This review is from: Comes the Dark Stranger (Audio CD)
Tom Clancy has called Jack Higgins "the master," and we're reminded of that in "Comes the Dark Stranger," originally written, I believe, in the 60s. Thus, some of the references might be a bit dated but there is the familiar Higgins zing - action, suspense - all brought to life by the voice of Michael Page. When Martin Shane and five others are captured, taken as POWs during the Korean War it's a given that none of them would betray their country by giving away secret information in order to be set free. However, that was not the case - one of them revealed military secrets to their tormentor, the merciless Colonel Li. However, before Shane could find out which one of them was the betrayer he loses his memory as the result of an explosion. Relegated to a mental institution, it is six long years before his memory returns. When that happens Shane has only one thought - discover who had turned on those who had fought side by side. This search eventually reveals a shocker that stuns even after so much time has passed. Vintage Higgins in more ways than one. Enjoy. - Gail Cooke |
