OK, I'm a Driver's Ed Teacher. Yesterday after 5 hours of driving, I get out of my car with rear end and tailbone hurting, stand up stooped over and waddle away from my car. The pain passes after a while and life goes on as usual.
I get home and my Amazon.com package has arrived. The Komfort Bead Wood Beaded Seat Cushion has arrived. I immediately remove the string attachments and discard them because every review says they are worthless. I'm a firm believer that you can fix anything with Duct Tape, Bungee Cords and Nylon Straps so I always have a supply of these. I get my small bungee cord and fasten the top of the beads to the two bars of my head rest. I didn't attach any other part. Next day, today, another 5 hours of driving. End of day, no pain and able to walk erect (back) right out of the car. Is it safe to attribute this to the beaded cushion? I think so. I have 6 hours of driving tomorrow and if I get any pains, I'll let you know. Worked for me, a 48yr 250 lb. male. Was originally looking for an Ortho support pillow but reviews said they flatten out with 150 lb. folks. Man, I would have "Murderized" those!

Real Deal - Install Details,
By RDJ "Elf#3" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Comfort Bead Wood Beaded Seat Cushion (Misc.)
For those looking for beaded seat cushions, this is the real deal.
Beads are decent quality and nylon mesh construction is adequate for the job. Varnish appears like it will last (no obvious bubbles or chipping). Great value for price, here. The neck portion runs about 21" of the total length. We have a huge seat Town Car, and this covered it with inches to spare, actually. The install went okay on two different cars (the other is a bucket-seat car, non-American make). Steps for install: -Position the cushion how you'd like it for length, running the neck between the posts on the headrest. (Some cars may require you to remove the headrest and re-insert between the beads, if the neck of the bead cushion doesn't run between posts easily. This should be rare, as most of the major car manufacturers buy seats from the same car seat suppliers, these days). -With a piece of twine, "weave" through the beads, by going under-and-over, in a "D"-shpaed pattern. Using a "D" shape will spread the stress over a larger number of beads and angles. The "D" pattern should face down, so that the 'straight part' goes between the posts and the curved, support part dips down about 3-4 inches. [tip: if you loop around the headrest posts, rather than just running the twine across them, loop going across the the front and leading to the back, i.e. clockwise on the left and counter-clockwise on the right. It's *not* a big difference, but it will spread the tension somewhat better). -Make sure it is *very* snug, by wiggling everything and making sure the twine "seats" along the path of least resistance (usually at beads' edges). -Tie it off with a square knot (or any non-slipping knot). [n.b. some headrests have a button to push or slide at the base of one of the posts, to allow them to retract, in case you are wondering why the darn thing won't go back down, after you pulled it up...] Secure the seat portion by going all the way around the middle, using the same under-over method. (Leave a little play, about 1/2 inch, so that the seat can recline, without the bead cushion getting too taught). Rather than twine, I used a softer cord, for this (the parachute cord, with core removed), to spare the fabric on the seats the force of high tension twine. I was also able to hide the cord in the crease of the seat, so it is not visible for people in the back seat (or something for kids to see and want to play with ...). This method has put up with a lot of twisting and turning, without much ado, so far.

Good price but how do you anchor it?,

I have chronic back/neck problems so I thought I'd give this a try for my commute. The price is GREAT, but how do you anchor this to your seat? It comes with only 4 flimsy ties that are just a few inches long, and I have nowhere to tie it! I finally did the "seat" ones to the Seat belt. I have no where to tie the upper ones. I purchased this because it showed I could put it OVER the headrest for my neck, but because there's no where on that part to tie it down ANYWHERE, I ended up having to put it in between the seat and headrest to hold it in place. Problem is every time I sit down, it slides out, and I end up having to fix it almost every day! Velcro or longer, sturdier strap are in order, especially at the top that SHOULD go over the headrest. The beads are strung with what looks like a thick fishing line, and because it keeps shifting around so much, not sure how long it's going to hold up. Not thrilled with it, but was inexpensive enough that it's not worth it to ship it back.

Straight to the point. If you've never owned a beaded cover chances are you'll be very happy with your purchase. All beaded covers of course will give you more air and less sweat, thats a given. I already had worn out a cheap cover and needed something better. The high back feels a little different but doesn't take long to get used to. Yes, you need to buy a $10 package of little bungee cord to fit your seat like everyone says.Is it a big problem? No, grow up a little, nothing fits everything. HERES THE BIGGEST DRAWBACK... the bottom of the cushion is not wide enough. I have a 32" waist. You can't spread your legs without being half off the cushion. They must have used a child seat seat fot their pics. DO yourself a favor and try to find width measurements before you buy. The quality is no different. Spend the extra $5 for the other one if you see it's larger and you'll be happier. FYI I'm a commercial driver going between 300-500 miles a day.

Plan on adding your own 550lb. Type III Paracord or some other means to secure this thing to your seat, the goofy little straps/strings it comes with are a total joke.

Beaded seat covers---pluses & minuses,
This review is from: Comfort Bead Wood Beaded Seat Cushion (Misc.)
The velour bucket seats in my 1987 Toyota Camry make sliding in and out difficult for old men. This particular type of beaded seat cover makes such entries and exits much easier---easier than many more expensive covers. To attach the cover to the seat, I remove the seats' headrests from their anchor holes; gauge approximately where to attach the cover's long narrow extension; then re-insert the headrest's long cylindrical anchor rods THRU the best-calculated openings in the beadwork of the cover's narrow part, and down into the anchor holes; and, finally, I adjust the height of the headrest properly. Installing the cover this way, the lower part of the cover extends down over the front edge of the seat about 3-5 inches, but the cover stays in place pretty well. A few minor adjustments ARE sometimes necessary but, once done correctly, the cover is very serviceable. Its WEAK point is the eventual coming apart of the upper seat cover where it attaches to the headrest rods. Inevitable, I suppose, but while it lasts this cover does its intended job of comfort and entry/exit very well. I'm certain there are many better ways to install this beaded seat cover than the one described here, but this method does work.

Making-Do,
By
This review is from: Comfort Bead Wood Beaded Seat Cushion (Misc.)
I read all the other reviews- and they are all pretty dead on. This is the first beaded cover Ive owned and I do like it- BUT it is WAAAY to small. I drive a tiny car (hyundai accent) and the seat cover just does not fit. Please dont be fooled by the product image- the perspective is way off. The narrow part is much longer than it appears- and one of the pictures submitted by 'reviewers' has got to be on a fake car seat. There is no way this product would cover a seat as shown. I put up some pictures of it in my car for comparison. Also the tie downs are flimsy (like everyone warned) and Im just merely making-do with it for now.
That said, it is better than nothing and seems to be pretty durable, given that it has been hanging from my headrest for a month- and let's face it- the price is good- especially with free shipping...

Add some comfort to your drive,
By
This review is from: Comfort Bead Wood Beaded Seat Cushion (Misc.)
I often drive a 250 mile stretch non-stop. This seat cover definitely added to the comfort of being seated so long in my car. I guess the beads do make for a massaging spread of pressure. It is noticeable and now I won't drive long distances, or short without it.

Beaded Wood Bead Car Seat Cushion,
By
This review is from: Comfort Bead Wood Beaded Seat Cushion (Misc.)
Years ago we purchased and used the Wood Bead Car Seat Cushion. We used it for several years. My husband has never been happy with any cushions since it feel apart and we had to take it out of the vehicle. With internet, I finally went on line and purchased 2 of these for my husband. I paid over $25.00 a piece. When we put one in the car there were very little ties on it to anchor it down. I knew with it moving around it would wear out faster. I added additional ties to hold it down. In no time at all, the beads were starting to come apart in the seat. I pulled on a piece of plastic the beads were strung with and it broke immediately. I could tell the plastic holding the beads together was old and not from wear but age. I immediately went through and pulled additional nylon high test wire to keep it together. The seat cushion continued to fall apart where I had not put additional wire. The seat completely feel apart where the beads were falling out of the vehicle upon sitting on it. I finally took the cushion out of the vehicle. I am afraid to put the 2nd one in. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what I can use and how I can retie the 2nd one with so that it will last for at least 2 or 3 years like the original one from years ago did? I would be ever so greatful.
