I was somewhat apprehensive about buying a mattress and box spring set on-line. It is, for me, a big-ticket item, and ideally, I would have liked to try it out before purchase. However, considering that an item like this could go for as much as $1100 in a conventional brick and mortar furniture store, with the customary retail mark-up, sales taxes and delivery charges, 2K's on-line price (under $400) was just about irresistible, and I decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did; not only did I save a huge bundle, I got a very well-made mattress/box spring set that should give me many years of good use. The set was delivered by FedEx freight in eight days--there was obviously some very good coordination between the seller and the shipper, as I was kept informed about the item's progress at every juncture. The set came in one large box with additional reinforcements on the outside. Getting it out of the box was fairly involved, but once done, I found that there was no damage or mishap during shipping. The mattress and box spring were each wrapped separately in heavy plastic for even more protection. Once everything was all unpacked, the light-yet sturdy box spring fit perfectly between the rails on my queen-size bed frame. As I am a bit on the tall side, I'd raised the frame and headboard an additional six inches. Four inches probably would have been adequate, as, together, the box spring and mattress are close to 24 inches high. The mattress is softer than what I've been used to, and possibly a bit under-stuffed. But the stichwork and construction is as good as I've ever seen. I expect this will take some getting used to (but what new bed set-up doesn't?), and I may have to sandwich a plywood sheet between the mattress and the box spring, but I will definetly rest assured that I got myself a fantastic bargain.
