One Warm Fuzzy Coming Up,
By Mary (Western New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Comfort from a Country Quilt: Finding New Inspiration and Strength in Old-Fashioned Values (Hardcover)
Comfort from a Country Quilt was just that. Short stories that remind you of the love & warmth of your own family. Quilt blocks don't need to match--but the simple act of putting them together create an expression of love & dedication. This is a wonderful book for anyone needing to acknowledge their family and their faith as important parts of their life. Blessings abound from the love that reaches out in these stories. I recommend you read this book with a good cup of tea by a warm woodstove.

What I thought...,

This review is from: Comfort from a Country Quilt: Finding New Inspiration and Strength in Old-Fashioned Values (Hardcover)
"Comfort from a Country Quilt" consists of sweet, narrative stories from Reba McEntire's life. She describes the importance of being a part of your family, the importance of being your own person and following your dreams. Reba describes all of the people in her life, that she cares so much about. Each person is unique, and fashioned with their own special talents. Reba adds a little bit of her country charm, and lets us enjoy hearing old family and friend memories. Reba shares memories from childhood, about her days in Oklahoma and what her life was like as a country, rodeo girl.I think this was a warm-hearted biography. It was certainly written by someone with a big heart, and who has a lot of expert advice to give. This biography has a sort of fluffy kind of nature to it. Reba is able to give you advice, in a motherly way without feeling pressured. The McEntire family is presented to be a "picture perfect family". Everyone is close and everyone gets along. Each help with dinner, and each help with house work and the chores outside. Wouldn't you love to have those children? I enjoyed the flow of this bigraphy and it was especially interesting to hear Reba McEntire share her faith in the Lord. I really enjoyed reading Comfort from a Country Quilt.

Reba + Book = TERRIFFIC,

Whenever Reba and a book are mentioned in the same sentence, you know it must be great. I loved her last book, and was delighted to read this one. I was excited to read that her favorite song to sing at concerts is "Fancy". This song is my altime favorite. This peak into the life of a country singer was wonderful. I thought I was right there in her kitchen, in O.K., at suppertime. Overall, totally awesome.

I have been a long fan of Reba McEntire. Her music has touched my life as many things have. But Reba is one individual you just can't forget esp. once you meet her. I was lucky to have done that. Now as I finish her second book, I am once more drawn to this special human being. This is a wonderful book!!I hope Reba opens her laptop and types another one soon.

"Comfort from a Country Quilt" is a warm-hearted biography in which Reba McEntire describes the love that she has for her family, friends and music. Reba takes us back to the good ol' days when she was living in Oklahoma. Every person mentioned in this book have unique personalities, with their own talents and gifts. Reba shares old fond memories, and funny stories of her many tours and trips on the road. Reba is a great story teller. She captures you, and puts you into her life. It's almost like you have become part of the McEntire family! Reba digs down deep and describes each detail so vividly. I felt as if I had been there to witness it all!I think this was a light, sweet hearted book. Reba gives advice to everyone about faith, dreams, happiness and family. She proves to others that nothing, not even fame can take away the importance of family. Reba wrote this book in a light, airy sort of way that makes it enjoyable. The many humorus memories make it entertaining, and the sweet tear-jerker memories make it sweet. Reba must have had fun writing such a happy go luckily novel and I enjoyed reading about her life and how she became the person she is now. I also really enjoyed reading about her faith in the Lord, it was neat to learn about her faith and how she handles her fame.

Simply Down To Earth and Inspiring!!!!,

This review is from: Comfort from a Country Quilt (Audio CD)
She has done it again! Reba's talents are non-stop but most of all her energy, her enthusiasm, dedication, and family orientation makes what she does so inspiring. This is shown not only in her music but also in how she is able to write down from memory what her past and present life was/is like. She did a ravishing job "piecing" together the memories of living life through family, friends, and music. Comfort From a Country Quilt is written in a way that speaks to the readers and inspires them. Her use of "country-style" words and phrases in the stories she tells literally makes the book warm, down-to-earth, and original. From the different autobiographies I have read Comfort From a Country Quilt is and always will be the best written because Reba writes in a "free-style" way. Reba skips the big terminology and tells her stories as if you were actually having a "back porch conversation" with her. Not to mention, having the audio version of Comfort From a Country Quilt, where Reba reads her own writing, gives the book that finishing touch. Reba has that voice that brings animation and character to the stories she tells. I recommend this book for everyone to read and get a touch of what life is filled with; you are here inspiring and being inspired through what you encounter through family, friends, and inspirations like Reba.

disappointed,

This is the first book by Reba McEntire that I have read. She is my very favorite vocal artist! However I felt 'country quilt' was very amaturist and with the !! at almost!! every sentence!! , I felt it demonstrated a dominant EGO!!! Some parts of the message were worthwhile even though most were already common knowledge certainly not original. ( Maybe the therapy was getting them into print.) Most of us live these every day and don't see anything extraordinary about them. I think reba needs to stick to her day job and leave the professional writing to others.

Book was ok at best. I had previously read her book, My Story so I didn't expect this to be more of..."My Story". Anyway, brain candy kind of book.
