We managed to get just 1 season out of the Comfort Zone oil-filled space heater. Worked fine. We've been using it in our living room. This season, we used it for only a few weeks, then it started on fire at the top. Fortunately we were right by it so we could unplug it immediately. If we had been sleeping ---- not a good scenario! The oily smoke smell was very strong throughout the whole house. This could have been very bad. We do not recommend this heater.

I purchased this heater from Menard's last winter and it saw fairly regular use for about 3 months. I got it out about a month ago and have used it only a few times and today it wouldn't work at all. We enjoyed the radiant heat that it put out when it worked, but I was disgusted that we didn't even one year out of it. After reading some of the other reviews, I decided to open up the controls and see if I could find out why it failed. I immediately noticed that the connections to the "tip-over" switch were burned, the wires were discolored, and the switch was melted slightly where the wire terminals entered the switch housing (see the picture that I included in the gallery). Seeing how several others have had similar problems with this heater, I would look for something else, it's not worth risking a house fire a for a cheap heater.

I bought one of these heaters about 10-years ago. Exact same appearance still, not complaining. I primarily used it to heat my 2-car attached garage non-stop for 9-years. It kept the cars interiors warm and engines started easily. It lasted exactly 10-years, but the cheap 15-amp outlet I plugged it into last winter melted and destroyed the plug\cord with it. So I broke it down and threw it away. I have since replaced the outlet with a 20-amp model (NEMA 20R). I will buy another one of these heaters soon for this winter. I would recommend upgrading ANY outlet to a quality 20-amp model if a heater will run 24-7 plugged into it (the U.S. needs make 20-amp outlets & wiring standard like the Europeans).

I bought one of these at a local store a few days ago and noticed it was leaking oil on my porcelain tile floor. I had to wait a couple of days for the store to get another shipment. Yesterday I exchanged the original one for another one. I plugged it in last nite and turned it on low. This morning at 4AM I woke up to a very strong motor oil smell and heard a strong hissing sound. This heater leaked what looked like used motor oil all over the floor and was shooting oil on the wall and all over my dining room chairs. The oil soaked into the baseboard so we have to have that replaced. My husband dragged the thing out of the house and it sprayed oil and leaked oil all along it's path, staining our deck outside too. It is very hard to get the oil off of everything and I am still trying to get that smell out of the house. Please do not get one of these heaters even if someone wants to give it to you for free. It is very dangerous. I am so glad I did not have carpeting or this for sure would be an insurance claim. I will never buy another oil filled heater again no matter what the brand or review. Check out these pictures. The tiles are 12 x 12.

I bought two of these heaters one year ago, to the month. They worked well, producing heat without being overly hard on the electrical bill, throughout our Maine winter last year, which was a comparatively mild winter. We began using them again a few weeks ago, but one of them quit working yesterday. It was working, and then it wasn't. It doesn't even light up when turned on - and yes, I've checked the electrical socket. In comparison, I have a Lakewood oil-filled heater that I bought more than eleven years ago and, while the wheel assembly has let me down, the heater itself still works great. I am rating it three stars because one of our heaters is still working, although I don't know for how long, and because they do work well as long as they are working. I expect to get more than a year out of it, though.

I turned the heater on in our bedroom and left the room. An hour or so later I returned to find the room filled with smoke and the oil draining onto the wood floor, popping with heat. If we had not been home the house might have burned down. I only used this product a few times and would never use it again.

This unit is very dangerous and needs to be taken off of the market ASAP. We purchased three of these unit on 11/11/14. Two of the three unit burst causing damage to our home. She was outside and when she opened the door for the garage to the house one unit had burst and filled the house full of an oil fog. Smelled like motor oil. My wife turned the unit off and unplugged it checked the second unit, shut it off and and unplugged it. As she was headed to the third unit it burst spaying oil on her the walls and the door to our spare bedrooms. The saving grace was that my wife had been outside in the cold so she still had boots, gloves, jacket and jean with thermals. We did suffer $$$$$$.00 damage to our home. I notified Howard Berger and the Consumer Product Safety Commission on 11/12/14. I hope they have recalled all these units. If you have one of these in you home I would stop use of it immediately and contact Howard Berger for a full refund. My hope is to get this out there before child, person or pet is seriously injured.
