Comfort Food Categories, but Upscale Recipes, November 10, 2011
This review is from: The Comfort Food Cookbook: Macaroni & Cheese and Meat & Potatoes: 104 Recipes, from Simple to Sublime (Hardcover)
Although it has a nice layout, this cookbook wasn't really what I was expecting or looking for. The entire book was divided into two sections: Mac & Cheese and Meat & Potatoes. Literally the first 120 pages were devoted to variations on macaroni and cheese. The rest of the book was devoted to beef, veal and other cuts of meat - most of them grilled - paired with appropriate potato dishes.
If you're looking for creative variations just to shake up your routine, you'll find lots of options in these pages. The author has picked up recipes from dozens of famous chefs and high end restaurants.
Unfortunately for those picking up the book on the promise of comfort food, most of these recipes contain expensive or cultured palate ingredients. Anyone thinking cheap, family-friendly or nostalgia inducing food will be disappointed.
