Love It!,
This review is from: Comfort Foods Cookbook (Gooseberry Patch) (Plastic Comb)
I've had the Gooseberry "Mom's Favorite Recipes" for a few years now and added to my collection recently with "Comfort Foods." I love every recipe I've tried in both cookbooks and have gotten rave reviews from my parents and my mother-in-law, and of course, my husband. These are recipes I will keep and use for years and hope to hand down to my children. Great recipes, easy to follow, easy ingredients - GREAT flavor!

I am responsible for selecting cookbooks for our local library cookbook club. I have often chosen Gooseberry Patch cookbooks and always get rave reviews. Recipes are easy to prepare for all ages and are delicious! After perusing the cookbooks, I buy them for my home cookbook library. Thanks Gooseberry Patch!

I ordered two of these Gooseberry Patch books, this one and Sunday Dinner at Grandma's. Unfortunately, I should've listened to my gut feeling as they both turned out to be what I was hoping they wouldn't. I would say that 75% or more of these recipes aren't homemade and homestyle, not in my definition. Throughout the book, ingredient lists include canned soup of one kind or another, bottled this or that, box of this or that...... Big disappointment. I'll never purchase another Gooseberry Patch cookbook....should've known better.

This has to be one of the best cookbooks I own, and trust me that is going some. (And that includes a number of the fine Gooseberry Patch books). What this one is that sets it apart from so many others is the fact that it seems to be written before the time of our being concerned with cholesterol, fat, and or any other ominous nutrition information to feel guilty about. I mean this cookbook really just assumes your in the mood for something hot, flavorful, full of stuff that you know you really shouldn't be eating all the time, and in the final result just loving every minute of it. Not every recipe in this book is bad for you by any means. And there is no question that neither the book or I am suggesting you just throw away everything about carbs and fat and all the other riff raff of what we know of nutrition these days. But if you are like me and figure that what makes life really worth living is some innocent indulgence now and then into something we love and just soaking it all up, then you will adore this cookbook. It's got my Mom and grandma and all the great comfort food favorites they used to cook for me when I was a youngin' written all through it, and then some. I suggest you make this a part of your cookbook collection and take it down for super bowl parties, barbecues, snowing days when you are stuck inside, or any other time you feel like just living it up food wise... Highly recommend...Yummmm!

There are plenty of great recipies in this cookbook. I wasn't sure if there would be tons of good receipes, or just a few...and I would say pretty much the whole cookbook has great receipes and defintiely easy things to cook.
