1st PRIZE WINNER!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Comfort Foods: Rachael Ray 30-Minute Meals (Hardcover)
This book is great! Personally, I own 3 of Rachael's books and watch her show regularly. I entered a local cooking contest which was on T.V. and I won first prize making Rachael's stuffed chicken with roasted red peppers and garlic herb cheese. If you haven't tried it you really must. After 14 years of cooking for my husband and family this is truly the best chicken I have ever tasted and it is a breeze to make. I love the receipies in this book, they are simple to make, quick to pull together and taste great!

Less than 30 minutes until great food!,
This review is from: Comfort Foods: Rachael Ray 30-Minute Meals (Hardcover)
Comfort Foods, written by Rachael Ray a popular cook book author, chef, and television chef has written a delicious book! I had the pleasure of interviewing Rachael about her book for my family web site families-first.com where we feature all important topics for families- recipes, crafts, education, and health.Rachael has done an excellent job in providing us, in her book Comfort Foods, a collection of wonderful down-home favorites- meatloaf, mac and cheese, along with spaghetti and meatballs- all can be made before the pizza delivery guy reaches your front steps! It takes only 30 minutes or LESS to make these great dishes! Your whole family will love her recipes- both kids ang big folks!

I have tried two of the recipes from this book, and I think that they are excellent. This book does exactly what it says it will. It provides easy to make, delicious recipes for comfort foods. I love this book already. And by the way, who wouldn't use a cookbook because it didn't have any pictures? That's like saying you wouldn't buy a great novel because it didn't have photos. HMMM.... Anyway, don't be afraid to try it, this is a great simple cookbook for working or busy people.

TV'S MOST EFFERVESCENT COOK,
This review is from: Comfort Foods: Rachael Ray 30-Minute Meals (Hardcover)
Rachael says it straight forward. She is NOT a chef. She's not classically trained in cooking. In other words, she's like 99.9% of the rest of us. RAchael first and foremost is a food lover who has a deep appreciation for how busy all our lives are and how most of us are not concerned with presentation and having a meal that can be photographed for Gourmet magazine.
We want good meals and good tasting meals and we want them Fast. That's What Rachael does in all her books including Comfort Foods, presenting the kinds of recipes that are good, make you feel good, and are easy to make. These recipes feature big, bold flavors in very little time. Best of all, like Rachaels other books, Most of the ingredients are things found right in the cupboard in your own home. REcipes like Grandpa's Ziti, Swedish Meatballs, even meatloaf and mashed potatos. This is one cookbook that you won't be intimidated by. They're recipes you've made before but with Rachaels great tips for quick preparation. Real food for real people. Good stuff.

EASY AND AWESOME!!!,

I watch Food Network all the time and I think Rachael Ray is one of the most captivating chefs on tv today!! She has spunk and is very down to earth. Her recipes are easy to do and very low maintainence. She doesn't get into the fancy ingredients like sherry, saffron, or other exotic stuff that I always seem to have to run out for!!! This book "Comfort Foods" is a positive step toward a great meal everyday of the week. Working people~you will love this!!!

Yes, we all like cookbooks with glossy images of the finished product. But you'll be sorry if you pass this little book over for that reason alone. It really has some quick and tasty recipes that can work for every night or special occassions. I just made the salmon cakes with lemon-caper-dill mayo over baby greens, and my husband said, "This is like something you'd get in a hip little bistro!" A lot of the food is like that. There's also less fancy fare, but so far everything I've cooked has been worth the modest price of this book.

Good food, layout a little sketchy,

This review is from: Comfort Foods: Rachael Ray 30-Minute Meals (Hardcover)
The recipes in this book are great (the kind I call "real food" recipes as opposed to "cookbook recipes") and will be ones that you'll make over and over and your whole family will love. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the layout of the book leaves something to be desired and I think it needs pictures. When it comes to preparation of a dish you've never made before, a visual image is just as important as a recipe.

I originally purchased this book because I was looking for some new ideas to help make feeding my family a little bit easier. I wasn't disappointed.
My wife and I had tried using one of Rachael's recipes from the tv show. We ended up being very disappointed. A supposedly 30 min meal ended up taking something like 2 1/2 hours to prepare (and I'm not a novice chef). The first recipe we tried was for the Navy Bean soup. Wow!. It turned out awesome and it actually ended up being close to 30 min in preparation. My 8 yr old son gave it some very high marks. I love a good soup and was very impressed with the results. The recipe was very easy to follow and the ingredients were very easy to find and prepare. The rest of the recipes were successful as well. What I really liked was the small stories that Rachael included with each recipe. That gave them just a slight personal touch which made them even better. I wholeheartedly recommend this book, especially to those families who don't have a lot of time on their hands for elaborate meals, and many of these recipes are kid friendly. I'm looking forward to trying the Guy Food volume next.
