2.0 out of 5 stars So temporary...
I would love to give two thumbs up for this band, but "The comfort of home" doesn't quite click its heels in my collection. Like watching a leaf fall to the ground, Rufio unwilling delivers solitude from progress. I remember when I first heard "Above Me from perhaps I suppose" words could not describe the fiery magnificence on guitar strings.

The Good
"Out of Control" wallops you right off the bat with a frantic muted progression and rapid-fire guitar licks. An infectious little groove dominates "Let Fate Decide". Scott Sellers vocals come off soothing and impassioned here. The track switches back and forth in tempo. "Never Learn" keeps the energy flowing at break-neck speed. The pounding drums and impressive axemanship help define the songs character. "Mental Games" has a real rock radio feel to it with its simple structure, memorable lyrics, and familiar chord changes.

The drum pattern used on "Life Songs" really stands out, but the melodic vocals and biting riffs are just as noteworthy. Usually the final track of an album is the slowest and dullest. Let's admit it, no one listens to it. Don't make that mistake with "My Escape". Rufio keeps the party going with this fervent rock track. There are four segue track throughout the album that are the heaviest and coolest arrangements. If they were put together, they would make one great old-school metal song.

The Bad
Nothing

The Verdict
The Comfort of Home is full of in-your-face, well written, pop-punk rock tracks that will keep your adrenaline flowing from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best CD From Rufio........PERIOD, July 13, 2005
This review is from: The Comfort Of Home (Audio CD)
Even before I got the CD from the Virgin Megastore, I got a chance to listen to "Out Of Control" because there was a free download off [...]and all I have to say that I knew Rufio was back. As soon as I got my hands off of the CD I listened to the whole CD and then listened to the CD again on that same day just to go through the experience again. Since I have listened to all of their CD's (Perhaps, I Suppose, 1985, and The Comfort Of Home), I can honestly say that this CD is the one that is for a die-hard fan of Rufio. Now to the conclusion.
Songs
1)Out Of Control 5/5
2)Let Fate Decide 5/5
3)A Simple Line 5/5 (I love it because it isn't completely Emo)
4)Interlude 5/5
5)Never Learn 5/5
6)Bitter Season 5/5/
7)Mental Games 5/5
8)Interlude 5/5
9)Drowning 5/5
10)Questions and Answers 5/5
11)Life Songs 3/5
12)Interlude 5/5
13)Walk Don't Run 4/5
14)A View To Save 5/5

All I have to say is GET THIS CD any possible way you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, August 1, 2006

Rufio's my favorite band! I just love them

When i heard "Perhaps, i suppose" i loved it, one of the few albums that when i start hearing it i must wait for it to end to change the cd. It was awesome. Than came out "1985", another mind-blowing album...another very fast and addictive album. Now Rufio's back with "The Comfort Of Home".

This album is almost perfect! You can see that the guys in the band all have grown up, musically and lyrically ... The lyrics in this album are very mature, and very well written.

If the subject is clever, fast and technical guitar riffs Clark is f***ing awesome. If you just remember "Above me" or "Science Fiction" intro riffs you'll know what i'm talking about... in " The Comfort of Home"...Clark is back with full strenght!

Amazing guitar riffs, fast songs, catchy choruses and many other things are guarantied in this album. If you heard any of the Rufio's old stuff and liked it, than you must hear this album...it won't let you down.

And if I was you, I'd buy this album right away!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bouncing back from a sophmore slump, March 20, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Comfort Of Home (Audio CD)
So, first of all, the reviewer who said that "perhaps" sounds like old MxPx is a total moron! I hate MxPx, and perhaps sounds nothing like anything they've ever done. Rufio has always been a good band, but i felt like 1985 was a complete letdown. With "home", rufio bounce back to their militia roots, but somewhat. The songs still aren't quite as catchy, and the production value, or lack there of, hurts the overall sound, but all in all, things are looking up. Download "out of control" and "bitter season" to get a good feel for "home". Pop-punkers...enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rufio with a Twist, February 21, 2006
This review is from: The Comfort Of Home (Audio CD)
As to be expected, Rufio once again comes out with a catchy new release. The songs may not catch you at first because they did tweak their sound a bit but this is a very solid album none the less that may take a few listens to catch on to. Is it just me or did the drummer get a whole lot better? He is all over the place in comfort of home and that seems to open up a completely new sound for Rufio. These boys clearly know what their doing.. there's not a bad song from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing short of Awesome, December 31, 2005

The Comfort of Home is thrilling. Several songs on Rufio's "Perhaps, I suppose..." were great, but I felt that the songs on the "1985" album were a bit too 'mechanical' sounding, like they were forced.

The Comfort of Home has not only the life of "Perhaps, I suppose..." but also brings in the coolest innovative sounds I've heard from any musicians in a long time. The scales that the guitars use, the rythms, and the vocals all bring new material to the table that's really unique. Great cd. 5 stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Comfort of Improvement, August 20, 2005
By
Max (Annandale, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Comfort Of Home (Audio CD)
As the pop-punk scene expands and innovates itself past simple rhythms and four chord monotony, Rufio's The Comfort of Home stands in the forefront of the crowd developing a new and improved sound based on well designed rhythms, and lightning fast lead guitar riffs. And all this is great, but the key factor of this band that makes it stand out from its peers (SEE Fallout Boy, Blink 182) is the excellent musicianship exhibited by all four members.

Coming off its slightly subpar sophomore release, 1985, a lot of people expected the foursome to fall into the same trap of melodic mediocrity, which, despite the speedy tempos, managed to sound very uninspired at every other song. The Comfort of Home avoids this error, for the most part. Tracks such as the angst-filled opener, "Out of Control", and "Drowning" epitomize a passionate originality, and, in my opinion, are the definite high-points of this album. Other songs, like "Let Fate Decide", seem to sink into an identity crisis, failing to elicit any real emotion from the listener.

Another little gripe I have is with the lyrical content. Half the time you can't understand what the lead singer is actually saying, though his disjunct voice melodies are well-crafted enough to assure you that he didn't just pick up a microphone 2 days before getting to the studio. The actual lyrics, however, are a different story. Perhaps they were actually trying to give off the impression that a teenager vainly attempting emo poetry came up with the words--it fits with the genre, right? And besides, this doesn't create too much of a problem, unless of course the song is about mourning a fallen loved one, in which case it's good to have something better than "if lighting a candle means calling on memories, I'd burn down a forest just to hear you speak."

Another interesting facet of this album is the usage of four "interludes" which all, excluding the fourth and final one, contain a different variation of the same simple and highly effective motif (also found in the song "Bitter Season"). Despite the fact the CD kind of fizzles out with the fourth interlude followed by "My Escape," The Comfort of Home is certainly, at times, a display of instrumental virtuosity that remains unmatched by any "pop-punk" band of its day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing new cd, July 22, 2005
This review is from: The Comfort Of Home (Audio CD)
From Out of Control to My Escape this covers all different types of songs with all different tempos and melodies, its a bit of a step up from 1985 where you could sense some major similarities in the songs. This CD along with Funeral For A Friend's "Hours" and Fall Out Boy's "From Under The Cork Tree" are my favorite CDs of 2005 so far. I would reccomend this CD for any previous fans of Rufio or anyone who enjoys their style and wants something new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better then ever..., July 13, 2005

This review is from: The Comfort Of Home (Audio CD)
I just happened to be in the store on the day this album came out and saw it on the shelf and i just had to get it. It's an awsome cd and might be better then the other two. It's a little stronger and and faster then the others but it works well and still has the Rufio touch. A must have for any Rufio fan.
