A different take on Christmas -- lovely stuff!,

This is the second set of Celtic and British holiday music compiled by American public radio show host Brian O'Donovan, host of "A Celtic Sojourn," on Boston's WGBH.This disc is somewhat earthier than the first (which I found a bit sugary and cloying...) yet again includes selections from Maddy Prior and the Watersons, as well as Cherish The Ladies, Robbie O'Connell, Boys Of The Lough and others... The first volume in this series didn't do much for me, but this is a pretty classy holiday offering, with some truly lovely harmonies, gorgeous melodies and odd, interesting, sometimes challenging versions of old songs and holiday carols that we know and love. Recommended!

I LOVE this Christmas cd (and I don't love very many). I feel as though I've been transported to a rustic hearthside in a different time and place. Has an authentic feel - often ethereal and sometimes just a little gritty too. No glitz or pop pretensions. I'll listen all year long, I'm sure. (I also love its cousin, "Celtic Sojourn".)
