Biography

Rockapella successfully modernized the art of a cappella performing, texturing their rich five-part vocals with elements of rock, jazz, R&B and doo-wop. The group was formed during the mid-'80s by Brown University students Sean Altman (tenor) and Elliott Kerman (baritone), who met while members of the school's male a cappella ensemble the High Jinks. They soon formed a spin-off streetcorner group… Read more in Amazon's Rockapella Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

You might remember this flashy a cappella group from their five-year stint on the award-winning PBS program Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? or from their jazzy Folger's coffee commercials. This time, they apply their considerable talents to Christmas music, releasing their second album of holiday cheer. New bass singer George Baldi helps the group breathe new life into old favorites like "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Home for the Holidays," and "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree"; the vocal arrangements are marked throughout by crisp rhythms, precise harmonies, and witty phrasing. Stretching out beyond doo-wop, they mimic a brass band and Elvis Presley on "Please Come Home for Christmas." And they have some fun with the boy-band movement on the gorgeous "Love and Lights." Although not associated with Christmas, their reggae version of Disney's "Small World" is a charming highlight. --Jaan Uhelszki

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly Better Than Their First Christmas CD?, December 26, 2004

Please ignore the Scrooge reviewing before me. This CD is fun and entertaining. They bring some new sound to some classics that tend to get older each year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Christmas Music, November 17, 2003
By
This review is from: Comfort & Joy (Audio CD)
This is the classic work of Rockapella for all those who know and love their music. However, it is not the best work that they done. I still prefer their album "Christmas" during the holidays. George Baldi's voice is very smooth and melodious, but I think that it will take more time for him to be truly integrated with their unique style. It does have a different sound than their previous work, but their origional songs such as "Little Mary Snowflake", "Love and the Lights" and "This Christmas Day" keeps with their tradition of wonderful music. It is fun to listen to and gets you in the Christmas spirit.
