More About the Author

As a child, Dan Pietsch lived for several years in the town where Osama bin Laden was found skulking. Dan has earned a living as a technical writer, as a teacher, and, more recently, as the owner of a game and toy store. He is married to the world's most long-suffering woman and lives somewhat hermitishly in a ten-sided tower on a hill overlooking the small town of Idyllwild, California.

The caption for the book is accurate: have your dramamine ready, it's a bumpy ride. Many of the other reviewers said "hard to read" and I would agree. For those of us who are survivors of childhood abuse, however, there WAS a comfort in this book. While it was a novel, too much of it is true to those of us who lived difficult childhoods and reading this character's development with his many siderails and derailments, was comforting in its familiarity.

I'd like to see the subtitle removed from the title of the book, however, as I feel it trivializes the journey the character must take. Some of the connections in the book were a little too tidy; I'd like to have seen more dangling relationships.

As a first grade teacher for 21 years, I have become increasingly aware of the complex lives of my students. Reading "No Comfort" opened my awareness of this fact even more. Dan Piestch takes the reader on a journey through the mind of an abused child. It was both a difficult (due to the subject matter), and compelling read. I appreciated the blog entry format.

The book was sad most of the way through. No child should have to live in such surroundings. It has a way of showing how much children listen to the Mother and Father. People do not realize how much a child that is abused, takes on guilt from every one around them like every thing is their fault. So many things happened in his life that he had no control over. It was hard for him to sit and listen to gossip about his folks, when he knew the people talking were guilty of much worse. He had so much loss in his life,it seemed every one he loved or got close to died. He has a big heart and tried to live his life to be good to every one. Great read.

I loved the style that this was written in. It made it a lot easier to get pulled into. I don't know if this is a real or fake story, I'm hoping that it's fake. For one person to deal with that much death and abuse is just terrible. I couldn't put this down. A definite must read.

This book contains at least 400 G-damns too many.. I feel as if the curse words were only fillers in the story. He used the first and last name of his wife when referring to to her every single time, again word fillers. Story is very good.Hard to believe this is real. But, still an OK book to read.

A page turner to say the least. Like I said, I'm speechless, very unpredictable, very moving, very raw, very sad.

I couldn't keep from crying several times as I read this. I am still not clear whether it is a true story or not--the events are soooo traumatic it's horrific to imagine a child going through this. The writer uses excellent visuals and the characters are developed so thoroughly you have no problems seeing it all play out in your mind. I found it riveting, but at the end I felt it was missing something (not sure what really, but I just didn't feel satisfied.) Perhaps I want an ending and this book is too true to life to provide a more concise wrapped up ending...Still it is worth reading.
