La Dolce Vita,
By Beth Wilson (Belmont, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life: Create All That You Need with Just What You've Got (Hardcover)
In Jennifer Louden's latest book, The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life, Louden goes beyond the concept of balance straight to the heart of living the good life, La Dolce Vita, from the inside out. Although Louden gives suggestions for pampering the mind, body and spirit, and asks us to do away with self-imposed obstacles, she reaches down into the heart of the matter: building a quality life from the essence of who we are instead of externally "rearranging the furniture" in the hope that it will create genuine contentment. Louden adds sass, humor, wisdom and a dose of self-love for a wonderful dialogue on living in harmony with our essential Self! Enjoy!

I frankly bought this book because of the title. What true chick can resist a book with the phrase 'Comfort Queen' in it! I was delighted to discover that this book is what I needed at this point in my life. Struggling with the typical challenges of life (husband, child, job, home) I had forgotten the person I was in my early 20's. This book reminded me to honor myself, to nuture myself and to enjoy myself. It made me become my own girlfriend again. After reading this book, I began to journal again. This book ends each chapter with an exercise that is perfect platform for one or more journal entries. When you buy this book, also buy some cool pens and a notebook so that you have a place for the thoughts, insights, feelings and memories that that will pour out of your as you read the text. I love Jennifer Louden's style in this book. Her companion and muse is the Comfort Queen, a magical being who travels and comforts Louden on her journey. This book is rich with stories and and quotes that you can relate to. Make time for this book and in doing so you'll make time for yourself (you may end up like me and popping in a Scooby Doo tape for your 3-year-old so that you can read! Such is life.) And when you are through reading the book, buy a copy for your friend, sister and/or mother! (Keep your copy for yourself!)

Clear cut ways to feel good and participate in your life!,
This review is from: The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life: Create All That You Need with Just What You've Got (Hardcover)
Jennifer Louden has done it again. In my mind, this book isthree things in one: a story, a journal of a woman's search forself-understanding and a guide. The story is about this incredibly insightful "Comfort Queen" who knows how to walk the line between tough questions and nuturing support. The journal is of Jennifer's own experiences, told in short, well-written vignettes. You can feel yourself questioning the same issues and wanting the same cup of tea in the garden. But the guide is the key. We all can follow our lives. But how do you actively participate in life? How do you make decisions that are good for you when time is of such short supply? The Comfort Queen has "Living the Questions" sections scattered throughout. That's where you can stop to ask yourself, what do I really want and what action can I take. And, with lots of examples and suggestions, you can answer it. This book has been a real boost for my journey...

A fun way to learn how to take care of our spiritual selves,
This review is from: The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life: Create All That You Need with Just What You've Got (Hardcover)
The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life is a compassionate and fun book that helps you discover you what aspects of your life need nurturing, and then takes you through the steps to accomplish the basic goal of being true to yourself. The approach isn't self-centered like many self-help type books -- it doesn't recommend that you live in a hermitage and ditch all your commitments and responsibilities. Instead, it helps you hone your list of wants, needs, dreams and goals and then gives you some options about how to attain them. There are several chapters devoted to "Living the Questions," exercises that ask simple questions that you can use over and over to guage your moods, focus your energy, help you relax, and be present in your feelings. Other chapters contain exercises asking you to fantasize about the outermost limits of your destiny and then making suggestions about how to get there. The "Comfort Queen" serves as the author's alter ego, helping her and the reader through the process of self-discovery. The point of the book is that every woman (the book is really directed at women) has her own Comfort Queen, an inner voice to whom she can turn for the answers. Or, the reader can borrow Jennifer Louden's Comfort Queen, and I for one am grateful for her generosity in sharing her.

What's the problem?,

I am a huge fan of Jennifer Louden's books and have just finished her new book, The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life. I found it fresh and very moving - especially her personal story. I just couldn't stop reading. Then I read Amazon's review and wondered what's up? So I investigated her web site. I love the Comfort Goods! The cards and journals seem like little books to me. I don't understand how these detract from the book? Having read the book, I can't believe Ms. Louden created the Comfort Queen so she could create cards... It feels like she is trying to create more ways to get women to take care of themselves. I usually find Amazon reviews very helpful but this one feels way off to me.

Be happy with your life,
This review is from: The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life: Create All That You Need with Just What You've Got (Hardcover)
Hurray! Another book by Jennifer Louden that I had to buy. The author writes like she is talking to just you. When you pick up this book, it's like getting a brand new best friend. She second guesses what you need, and is right, and then makes suggestions for what you can do about your current situation.

Jennifer does it again!,

Jennifer Louden's new book is truly delightful! Once again, she has created a wonderful, insprirational resource for anyone wanting more out of life. Jennifer's journals and cards (which were released AFTER her books)are beautifully illustrated and a perfect companion to her books. Gail Hudson's review was way off the mark! I have read many books geared towards "getting more out of life" and none compare to Jennifer's work. I higly recommend The Comfort Queen's Guide to Life, as well as Jennifer's cards and journals, to anyone wanting to learn how to live instead of just exist.

Jennifer Louden is the Comfort Queen. This companion to Woman's Comfort Book and the Couple's Comfort Book is another excellent read. If you haven't discovered Jennifer's warm and soothing style, you are in for a big treat. In a world that is often anxious and eager to trample over you in a rush for success, Jennifer encourages you to take time for yourself. Better than chocolate and not nearly as fattening!

I love Jennifer Louden's sense of humor. She has a real gift for tackling tough subjects with humor and finesse and yet getting at the underlying truths. I treated myself to a copy of this book last year and it's really helped me to make myself a priority in my own life. Highly recommended.

I bought myself a copy of this book in December, and then immediately had to rush back out and buy three more copies to give to close friends for Christmas. It's a terrific book: honest, funny, compelling, and packed with that from-the-heart wisdom that we fans of Jennifer Louden have come to count on. I made it part of my daily ritual to read a page or two each morning until I made my way through the entire book. What a great way to start the day. I highly recommend this book.
