For clients with serious illness for whom conventional massage can cause discomfort or even injury, Mary Kathleen Rose's Comfort Touch® approach offers a way of giving safe, effective and compassionate care in a variety of settings, including hospice, hospital, skilled nursing facility and at home. Comfort Touch is based on six guiding principles: slow rhythm; comfort from inner strength; respect for the client; connecting into the center; broad even pressure; and encompassing wholeness. The techniques are derived from Shiatsu and acupressure, minus the application of deep thumb or finger pressure that could be hurtful to these clients. In this book, you will find detailed information about the physical and emotional needs of elderly clients, as well as clients with chronic illness and/or injury.
